I really liked the way you dealt the subject on How the IT Dept get to know about our sources of Income. Its really excellent, you explained with nice examples.
The IT dept can only recover the tax from the salaried and pensioners. There are so many people of shop holders and politicians who are getting more income than 5 lakshs per annum, are not coming into IT payers. In villages and towns, there are so many business and political people who are constructing apartments and buildings. Why the IT dept should not take action as per building plans approved by the respective panchayats and municipalities.
Good question. If the audit reports are really verified as per your sincere doubt, no grieving party will be there on the earth.
Wait for the department turn they can issue notices for n of previous year. The only that hurts me is that people in the cities are assessed agressively than in towns. Hope the new assessment procedure will take due process and strict assessment takes over just like the us laws where it is strict

When you have started getting salary (that exceeds 5 lakhs ) per annum .
And if you have started getting profits from stocks in lakhs of rupees.
Then you must have to file income tax , there is no age limit to file income tax..( if you have pan card)
