As a longtime New York Yankees fan, I'm very much a realistic one as well. The Houston Astros were simply the better team. And I'm not afraid to say this: GM Brian Cashman built this Yankees team as a regular season team. He lost the vision of building a great postseason roster and that's why he needs to be fired. The Yankees simply need a brand new voice and vision from a new GM not named Brian Cashman.
The Houston Astros are not just built for the regular season but they're truly built as a World Series championship contender. They are the better team. And I truly tip my hat 🎩to the Houston Astros.
I'm going to be rooting for the Houston Astros to win this World Series championship for Dusty Baker because he is truly a refreshing addition to MLB. But more importantly, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dusty Baker because he is truly class personified.
not that I know anything.... but what is the difference between a regular season team and a post season team? Aren't they just the same team doing the same thing?
@@keth8947 at the end of regular season the 10 or so teams with the best record compete in a tournament called playoffs or postseason, when a team loses a series theyre out. each series gets longer than then one before, so the best teams play best of 7 at the end " the world series"
@@keth8947 ….A post season team is more balanced, they can win with pitching, home runs, singles, they are multifaceted.
A regular season team is one dimensional, they are really good at one thing and when that one thing is taken away or doesn’t work, they are not good enough in other areas to pull out victories.
@@keth8947 To add to the above explanation: the regular season has 162 games. If you rely on homers to produce runs and your power hitters aren't producing for a while, that's ok. It will average out over the course of the games. This doesn't work in the postseason because every game suddenly becomes very important. Lose a few and you're eliminated.
Some background in case you didn't know:
Home runs became a hype due to the statcast era. It made pitchers nastier with higher velocity and spin rates, which makes it harder to make contact or string hits together. Even if you get people on base, you still have to get them across the plate. That's not so easy to do. Teams often leave runners stranded. So instead they started focusing on launch angle and power to get the ball over the fence and automaticly score runs. Basically, you're trying to overpower the opposing team on both sides of the ball.
It was figured it was ok to trade home runs for strikeouts (you're not swinging for contact so more likely to whiff), because if the ball is caught and handled by defense, it's just another out and thus same as a strikeout (and spray charts and defensive shifts had made it harder to land a hit). Except that's not really the case, because defense still has to make the play and although major league level defense is generally very good, they still make errors. Especially if you put them under pressure. If you watch Ichiro's hits for example, you'll see infielders fumbling or making bad throws. Because he got to first so fast, they had to make the play in a hurry.
I would argue that you would want a versatile team anyway and that it wins you regular seasons too. Also it's been shown that the average number of runs scored per game has remained the same, since the statcast driven era. But it was a hype. If anything it made baseball an uninteresting, one dimensional game (boom or bust). So it's nice that small ball still matters and wins you games.
@@desamster Thanks for your clarification on this. Makes a lot more sense now. I always wondered why players seem to want to smash the ball instead of just trying to get on base. Kind of like that freakin' 18 inning game with the Astros.

I grew up in Seattle and was a Mariner fan until we moved to Houston 22 years ago, I remember the days of Jay Buhner, Cora, Martinez, Randy Johnson (who everybody wanted to trade in 1989 until he got good) Griffey Sr and Jr, Norm Charleton the sherriff and of course, Dave Niehaus getting out the mustard and the rye bread....Seattle nowadays is total crap, woke, unrecognizable, expensive and sad, glad we moved out and bought a huge house in Houston and became astros fans

They have a lineup of young aggressive hitters carrying big sticks, a lot like the Astros. Not sure about their pitchers but I do know the ace is, like JV, capable of shutting anybody down if he is halfway “on”. I read and hear the stuff on media that has Houston in a sweep, because the Astros are “the best team in the modern era”. Yankees fans throw beer cans at players.
They throw trash on the field when a call doesn't go there way.
In 2019, they booed there own pitcher when LEADING game 7 of the ALCS in 2019, and when they psyched him into losing the game, complained about it.
They have the bigest market in the league, buying whatever they want, and nothing is ever good enough for them.
I have nothing against the players themselves, but the way that fanbase operates is inexusable and bad for baseball. So yeah, I'd say any baseball fan born outside the Bronx would like seeing the Evil Empire struggle.

When the Yanks were up three zip they needed to really keep it going,needed even more runs. Had no dog in the fight. Just a feeling I had. Game was actually lost when the Yanks couldn't add to that early lead.
