  • Paul Frommer invents a language for a popular movie & teaches it to people in blue make-up.
Paul Frommer is a linguist and professor at the University of Southern California. Away from the classroom, Paul created a new language - Na'vi - that is used in the most popular movie in the history of forever, James Cameron's "Avatar." Paul continues to "curate" the language for the many people around the world who find it fascinating even outside the movie theatre.

To be honest, if I were to learn a conlang, created by someone else, it would most certainly be Na’vi!

Paul, thank you for creating the Navi language. I hope you will get the chance to create more languages for fantasy and alien species in future!

My first language was NC dialect Cherokee, followed by Appalachian English. Sgi (thanks) for developing Na'vi....it's just so lovely to listen to when sung or spoken.

I think it's awesome a new language is learned and used. I am getting into FEZ and the language that is in the game is facinating to me, that I know about 6 of the letters from just looking at them so far. I am so interested in such an idea to make my own language for myself... Having its own letters, if you will.

As having some Jewish connexion, I feel bad about certain things about the Jewish community. Paul Frommer is NOT one of them.
Sorry not to be able to say this in N'avi? Na'vi? (Posing the aleph correctly is a problem to me, was a problem in Danish and would be a real problem if I tried to learn Hebrew), but I hope he doesn't mind me saying it in English (my Quenya vocabulary is too small for it).

so why is it ok to learn the Na'vi language but learning Klingon is frowned upon?

I think that probably the same, that frown upon Klingon do frown upon Na'vi.
Or maybe it just that Avatar came after Star Trek and geekness is more accepted in today's society.

You haven't seen the 2010 discourse. It was definitely not considered OK in the general internet communities back then.
