Who do you think deserves more credit for the creation of '10,000 Volts'-Ace Frehley or Steve Brown?

Easy uestion to answer: ACE. Put on a Trixter album. Does it sound anything like 10,000 Volts? No.

I really gotta question Ace's involvement with the album. Having seen him perform 10,000 Volts live, he doesn't even know how it goes.

Its abundantly clear that Ace didn't write it...and when that came out, he freaked and made Steve say it was a joint effort if he ever wanted to do something again.

Pretty basic lyrics I wouldn't be tooting my own horn claiming I wrote them. And his girlfriend is just hanging around to collect the leftovers when he suddenly kicks the bucket.

Steve Brown did not say he wrote 97% of the songs. When asked where the songs came from he said he "brought in 97% of the song IDEAS (my emphasis)."
A song idea can be a fragment of a song, a riff, a chorus, a melody, a lyric or even just a basic concept.
Ace has from day one given Steve credit as a full collaborator.
Even if he brought in ALL of the ideas, he and Ace worked together tweaking, refining, REWRITING, finishing, and performing and recording them.
That is how you make a record.
Bottom line: It's an Ace Frehley record, and he was fully involved in the creative process. If you view/listen to other interviews Steve Brown has done concerning the sessions, he has clearly said as much.
10,000 Volts is an ACE FREHLEY RECORD. No controversy at all.

exactly the original idea in most cases was Steve, but Ace would add/modify and change it to how he felt it should go-- in other words "co-wrote" as he has claimed

  • @earld158

who really cares. Most of Ace's most popular stuff was either co-written or entirely written by someone else including his biggest hit New York Groove. It;s still his release with his vibe. This being said, I'm not going to name drop but I know somebody very closely involved with this. Steve brought the majority of general ideas which were then altered by Ace, and in many cases completely changed. Ace would make alterations to how it was played, add bridges, write solos, change/add lyrics in other words co write the music. The basis of the idea in most cases was Steve- the end result was a collaboration . I don't get what the issue is-? hehas had co writers on every album he has done and he is not trying to hide it.would the songs have been the same without Ace? No

Neither he, nor his ex band has been even remotely relevant, for 4 decades, and even then they were for the most part, average players, with average songs, reliant upon hype, and gimmicks. It was a great , and fun concept which worked in its day, but still a one trick pony, whose time is long over.
