"My job is to get everyone inebriated in a sensible fashion in that they don't go too far". Best quote of the whole documentary!
“My parents still think I’m going through a phase”

God help us. That really inspired confidence in Joe Public.
She's fantastic. What a leader
@@alistairhowes9805 obviously a product of positive discrimination.
It appears the Baldwin trolls are among us lol
Watching this is extremely emotional for me as an Ex RAN sailor. A fantastic doco. Im absolutely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service your commitment and your dedication to keeping us safe. ♥♥♥
Don’t forget this C4 documentary was first shown 3-4 years ago. “History”.

I enjoyed those episodes when they were first released-- and am happy to watch this one again.
Where can I see the next episode
It can still be sunk
It’s crazy to think that half of this crew are no longer serving personnel !
It might be indicative of something else........
@@bertplank9892 It's indicative of the average length of service.
Worked on her when she was getting built, the 6 of them actually 👍
Interesting ship. Really liking the big windows at bridge levels and large access ways. Very different to ships made in last part of 20th century. Looks like realisations made about survive ability eschewing passive measures and providing more emphasis on access and awareness. Nice.
I do hope the lad who has the heart attack is ok
We can see he was in some pain
I do not think he will be allowed to sea again
I wish him well
He said “Official hospitality is what the Royal Navy does best.” 😳 Really?
Please upload more of the episodes !
thank you
The pirate skull and crossbones comes from British warships returning home after making a Kill
Can anyone tell me when is episode 2, 3 and 4 coming? Always wanted to see this series and I could watch it all the time in hospital. 🤔🤕
Will there be a continuation of this series on HMS Duncan? As I would like to see what happens. ❤
This class of ship is relatively new to the fleet but very well known in the dockyards for its many visits to correct unreliable systems. When a ships propulsion system is unreliable, the ship is too. Hopefully these issues will be rectified eventually.
The biggest weakness of our Royal Navy, as it has been since WW2, is its size.
We didn't need to be big because we are a NATO country working together with Europe and USA. Since this aired things have changed thx to Putin. It's a real worry because if we need to bolster up then the government will absolutely do it. The problem is then where do they make cuts? It's just bad news for the poorest people who may feel it the most.
@@dunki-dunki-dawg In my opinion we don't need any of these ships. Their primary NATO role, along with the American Aegis fleet, is to protect Europe from Russian missiles. No European ships have that capability. Their secondary role is fleet protection. A fleet that we would not need at all if we had food and energy security in this country and were out of NATO.
Like Trump has said on occasion, it is time Europe put some money into defending itself rather than relying on others to do it.
What's the point of a huge fleet when there's hardly anyone to fight? Can't shoot at the Russians without triggering WWIII. Can't shoot at the Chinese for the same reason. As for other nations - almost all of them have become client states of nuclear equipped superpowers. So what's left?
@08:12 This DD's ships store is about 33% bigger than what I had on my U.S. Sprance Class DD and the offerings look to be about 50%+ better. But I didn't see any Playboy magazine for sale alongside of canned Tuna 🤣😛
Cheers and Gratitude! from Canada.
Im seeing a lot of people writing rubbish about the Type 45, so here’s what i got to say about it: (Its a bloody good ship)
The Type 45 Sampson and S1850M Radar is far better than US SPY-1, Aster 30 has significantly higher p/k than US SM-2 and slightly higher than SM-6 (at least the earlier versions). T45 does lack the ability to take down ICBM’s and longer range Ballistic missiles (as it doesnt use SM-3), but it can shoot down SRBM and IRBM - as has been proven in Red Sea recently. It is currently undergoing upgrades, with updates to radar and missiles to enable it to shoot down longer range ballistic missiles - and in future Aster 30 Block 2 will have equivalent capabilities to SM-3. In terms of AAW destroyers, it is at the same level, and better in some respects as any ship in the world - including Arleigh burkes (although latest Flight 3 Burkes will likely be superior). It does lack some ASW capacity (Towed Array Sonar), but that is because it is somewhat useless/inefficient to have ASW kit on a non ASW optimised ship/destroyer - instead, it relies on Merlin helicopters - best ASW Helicopters in world for torpedo launches and majority of its ASW capabilities. If you want to read more into this, use this link www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/04/us-navy-royal-rn-frigate-destroyer-submarine-russia-nato/ - It’s an article by Tom Sharpe, a retired Captain on a Royal Navy Type 23 ASW Frigate talking about why the Arleigh Burke really isn’t very useful for ASW. If you want to talk about its Land attack and Anti Ship capability, this is admittedly limited - although they are currently being fitted with 8x NSM canisters which will provide them with better anti ship capabilities than Arleigh Burke for instance. In terms of the talk about them having equal capabilities to European frigates, they have the best radar on a warship in Europe, they are the largest Warship (obviously excluding Aircraft carriers and amphibious, resuplly ships etc) in Europe so have the longest range, have more VLS than every other European warship (other than French and Italian Horizon class that was codeveloped with UK in the project which eventually turned into T45 - they only have 2 each anyway) (they are also currently being fitted with 24 extra CAMM VLS to cement this lead). But naming doesnt really matter in this day and age as it differs from country to country - for instance the French call all of their warships frigates while the British define a destroyer as an anti-air platform while a frigate is an anti-submarine or general purpose platform. The US has a similar distinction to the British with the upcoming constellation cast frigate being primarily for anti-submarine warfare. The type 45 is certainly more than the Hobart class. It has better radar, more VLS (soon to be double the amount), better missiles, a longer range, better Anti-ship capabilities, more CIWS etc.
So T45 does have some weaknesses, but it really is one of the best, if not the best AAW warship in the world. Prove to me that its not with actual points, facts and figures and i will be happy to accept/show differing evidence/debate a point, but dont jsut come here with some no research nonsense that you believe it isn’t a good warship.
You don't know what you are talking about. The latest Arleigh Burkes are equipped with the AN/SPY-6, the most advanced ship's radar in the world. Try keeping up to date. You Brits just can't accept the fact that Britannia doesn't rule the waves and hasn't for a hundred years. The Royal Navy only has one destroyer and three frigates currently operational and deployed. Your ships are maintenance nightmares and two generations behind the US, Japan and Australia.
I’m just gonna say that I believe you. Looks like you know what he is bloody saying!
Thanks lol 😂👍
Totally agree.
It isnt a bad ship, but its not the most advanced warship in the world. The Burke Flight IIIs are
Part 2 please
dolphins swim alongside Duncan....thats a good sign👍
Anyone else feel overwhelmed with pride in our senior Service?
WHAT SERVICES.
Realy I like this powerful warships
So advanced they don’t even have enough beds!
Last ship really did a lot of work showing what it feels like to be in an advance American Naval ship.
Nothing can compare with the Artisan and Sampson systems and its ability to track so many targets at such huge distances.... Just imagine the new type 83 in several years ....
WOW , can see another ship at 9 miles , missile distance .
Does anyone know where I can find the other episodes? Was this on ITV? Channel 5? BBC? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
chn 5
I was enjoying that
Clyde built in Rutherglen ❤ 🏴
That bridge is top heavy with people, on MN ship there is one officer, and a lookout at night.
Great video!
My dad was in the RNZN in WWII and I share his love and respect for the sea.
I loved the "condom fairy"!
Being cooped up with a few women as on this ship, I'd find the "no touching" policy very hard.
I'm in an office workplace and I know a number of my female workmates well, having worked with them for years.
We're quite close so I give them the occasional hug! Couldn't do that on a warship though and I'd find that hard.
Where are the other episodes of Duncan ????
but without sailors . and half they didn't know to swim . and for sure , they need because they sink fast
This was on 3 or 4 years ago because I watched it. But it’s still a bloody good ship and it’s British made.
Do you know what channel it was on? I am struggling to find the other episodes
@@MRIRISHLAD possibly channel 5 or Try BBC 1. You could look on here for them or google mate. Great series👊
With French missiles 😂😂
@@stephennelmes4557 What French Missiles?
@george-ev1dq Aster missiles are designed and built by Eurosam, a consortium that consists of MBDA 🇫🇷, MBDA 🇮🇹, and Thales, a French🇫🇷 multinational company.
Each holds a 33% share in Eurosam.
Amazing how such an old ship still is the best and advanced in the world. With of course the best ASW helicopter in the world and the best crew in the world. All according to our British friends.
How reliable?.....their cars certainly are not

Outmost respect at 16:40
When's the 2nd episode coming
Hmm, I read, that the noise signature is pretty bad. Towels in the doors etc.!? Seems like a "Hurra-Hurra" docu.

Getting into that tiny bunk is a nightmare , 'matress ' looks razor thin .
Small step up from 'shift sleeping ' the hammocks now look 3 star :-)
the 'Flagship ' of 4 vessels ? Hardly an armada !
Very impressive, the Royal Navy never disappoints!
Yes we were shown a Krivak initially, but most shots shown were of a Kashin!
HMS Stunning & Brave...🤤
Where is the part 2?
Really!! Can it cross the English channel without breaking down
You wouldn't want to suffer from claustrophobia, getting into those bunks!!!!!
Would love to see a documentary from a similar Russian ship... Bet the standard and professionalism would be on another level, a much lower one.
KEEP BELIEVEING THE BULLSHIT .
I do believe people are miss using the word 'unprecedented '
Don't make me larf!
Where can I watch this series?
chnl 5
280 crew! WTF are they all doing?
Best thing about the navy?... when the boss says CHARGE... he has to go with you !😅😅
I'm a Brit and I'm proud of our military's history and professionalism - but it's kind of pointless having this equipment without a meaningful or decisive ability to engage anything
What? You should wait until you need it to start building it? That’s called “shortsighted” or maybe outright stupid.
Seriously , the most advanced ship does not have enough crew space ? Hammock in the office ? :-)
The least you have to worry is the air threat at the Black Sea. Type 45 have powerfull radar, can easily spot missiles, planes, other ships etc... But whats missing from the Type 45 Destroyers? Well, yeah... Anti-Submarine or ASW... You never know whats lurking beneath the waves especially at the Black Sea. Thats Russian infested water nowadays. From Kilo-class submarines to Yasen-class submarine which carries hypersonic anti-ship missiles... You dont want to mess with them without proper anti-submarine equipement or ships.... You need an Astute-class submarine or a Type 23 Frigate next to you. The Wildcat helicopter alone is not enough.
Nato Commodore? Number 64?
Captains beret wants sorting proper
Why not put sub cutaneous transponder in all crew for immediate checking? I know it’s a bit Orwellian BUT every second counts, especially at action stations.
Hmm working on one prop , what happened about that ?
My favorite thing for breakfast is chocolate covered toilet rolls with hot chocolate then I’m ready for watch
Did you hear the Chinese man with accent doing the laundry , holy moly
Stolen footage from a copyrighted TV series
brethishe ..americain. ..weird that equipment look cloose the seam

HMS Duncan is quite nice boat I live within 10 miles of its home
The radar this type of boat uses needs a lot of power
Russia and China would be the #1 fan of these types of videos . Of course they would know alot about these ships but how many unanswered question would be answered watching these . When was the last time we got to watch one of these video's about a Russian or China's war ships ever wonder why .
The World seems to forget that the Royal Navy has been tier 1 for hundreds of years, invariably against the odds. We just need more sailors. Modern youth are having our legacy taught out of them. The Government needs to advertise all the services and conscript troublesome youths.
Surely fire defense should be;
1. evacuate.
2 flood with inert gas.
3. done.
8 is not only the most advanced ship in the world. There are other countries with just as capable ships has
that dude in greem cammo, face blurred...Spec.ops operator😅
6:30 that kind of stuff makes people from other countries aliens from one another
Good job we got 2 New aircraft carriers!!Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth I carriers!!plus their carrier groups!
What happened there? MOB sounded in daylight, didn't launch until dusk.
👍
An aircraft or missile coming in at 3 x speed of sound would give Duncan 38 secs to react from 150 miles out. Not long to detect and make decisions. May sound impressive but not much time.
Yes, but the position of the plane will be different, is at that time, that real intentions will be shown, given the time to lock on and fire.
150 nautical miles divided by 3x the speed of sound is 270 seconds. Just from a mathematical point of view, obviously the actuakl reaction time must be lower but 38 seconds is a bit off.
People alwaus inderestimate Britian but we are the father of the industrial revelution and tje modern world we also have been at war for 1000 years in one way or another alas we are very well versed in the art of war with or wothout allies.
O yeah,i think the Americans might argue with that statement.
This must be quite old , Crimea was 2014 .
Even talking about the ' Queen's finest liquor ' at the party .
Heroes!!!
god help us
Could’ve picked a tougher name than Duncan for a firepower laden warship… like Predator or Terminator😂
The accomodation for the lower deck crew isd isgusting. There was more space available in the days of hammocks. than the RN provided on this class of vessel... Ships designed by non seagoing architects...🙄🙄 (ex RN 1950s)
Wonder how aware the captain is that she’s been given the most advanced ship in the world to make a massive political statement about diversity in the British armed forces, rather than what she can/can’t do 😂😂😂
They all seem so... pleasant... compared to their American counterpart
The main question is if she can track and intercept a Zircon???
to many announcements for sure , making things more complicated that need be
Woman power 😊Men strength 💪HMS Duncan's victory ✌
you are welcome to red sea
Need to get those medals court mounted, swingers aren't really the done thing in the forces!!!!
Letters from home after 5 days, bags of condoms, propeller breakdown. chasing dead trees, cocktailparty. Im sure the Russians are reaaly scared of the Duncan!
Just one word: Kinzhal.
Raise u a Patriot
Life in a blue suit 🫡
In a ideal world the Royal Navy could do with another 2 or 3 of these.
However the country probably cannot afford it and additionally they probably cannot get enough people to join the Navy to crew them.
I hope I am wrong.
Britain was built on it's Navy
Glad that 24 new Frigates and destroyers are being built as we speak.
Bet we never see even a quarter of that.
@@neilbaldwin592 We live in hope. I really think that they have too this time same as 138 F-35Bs Lightning Jet's because they've been signed for.
Going to take a decade to get them built if not more. At that point they will need upgrades
@@stuartnewman6968 With who may I ask? Your country declared a war against their own people. Like labelled them "racist white people". Now you can't even fix your own roads.
We Irish depend on the Royal Navy and the RAF for our defence so I’m wondering if the ships company of HMS Duncan has ever worked alongside the Irish Naval Service?
It is a classic frigate and proud if the nation indeed.
2. Things to add;
1. Building cost is way too high compare with S Korea FFX3 or FFX4 or Japanese Mogami Class. SKorean and Japanese may only have 16 cell VLS but towed array sauna, combined censor mast (X/S dual band + IRST) are definitely next gen level. Also their battletronics (battle management electronics) are far superior (at par with SPY6-9 or Arleigh Burke Flight 3 level).
2. S Korea FFX3 currently has KVLS2 which is longer (9.8m) and wider (850mm diameter for cells). They are integrating short/ medium range ballistic missiles and supersonic cruise missile (similar to Brahmos or Yakhont). Hence the mission versatility is much broader than T45.
What troubles me the most is the huge price tag of British warships. Mogami Class (basic ASW version) is estimated at $400-450m and SKorea FFX3 costs ca. $380-410m. T45 or any replacement would easily cost Royal Navy 50-100% more than its peers. If the high construction costs continue as it is now, Royal Navy and gov fundings will be severely depleted (which is where we are now already).
We all salute and respect our lads who risk their lives to protect Britain and her interest overseas but we must give them the best we can. At the moment the failure at procurement is creating a permanent damage to our armed forces (e.g. RCH155!!!!).
This female captain is fabulous. So calm.
Most advanced destroyer in the world..? I believe that title belongs to the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000).
It’s a 4 year old documentary
