A dark comedy set in the world of karate. The film centers on Casey (Jesse Eisenberg), who is attacked at random on the street and enlists in a local dojo led by a charismatic and mysterious Sensei (Alessandro Nivola), in an effort to learn how to defend himself. What he uncovers is a sinister world of fraternity, violence and hypermasculinity and a woman (Imogen Poots) fighting for her place in it. Casey undertakes a journey, both frightening and darkly funny, that will place him squarely in the sights of his enigmatic new mentor. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
"I want to be what intimidates me" Can we just all take a moment to appreciate that line.
If Bruce Wayne said that when he first entered the League of Shadows, that would be awesome
@@proctorritter5176 he said something similar when he was asked why did he choose to be a bat, i remember that because i thought that its a very cool reason.
@@thepkturtle3276 I think he said I want my enemys to feel my fear or something g like that
Daniel Tchernov same shit bro
this comment intimidate me.
"I want to be what intimidates me. I want to be..."
"This question is multiple choice"
Yeah dude we just saw it
Yep, we watched the trailer too
"Whats if its none of the above"
".........Should I read the choices again"
"No, thats OK,.... A ...health and fitness"
He finally plays a role that fits him.!
Mark Zuckerberg finally getting back at his haters.
🤣
Dude went and got trained, i personally cant fight my way out of a wet paper sack, but my skinny white butt would go 2 rounds with him in a cage and gladly go do the time. 😮
top 10 anime redemption arcs
hahah bang on
That "why karate?" montage hit me like a sledgehammer to the nuts.
spankrod it gives me the chills, I must’ve rewatched that part a 100 times
I'm very curious about it. Specially because the dojo that is portrayed looks like what karateka call a "McDojo". We see overpricing, indifference from the instructor, katana training (not from karate at all), and people doing terrible stances right at the beginning.
I think that it's part of the plot for the dojo to be bad, and somehow this will change through the movie.
I noticed that as well. It seems like the MC will start to realize that this dojo and its instructor are full of shit, as he develops as a character. One of those "strength was within you all along" sort of stories.
Good lord I hope that's true. A McDojo is the perfect setting for a black comedy, or even a regular comedy.
jacoblgames if you haven’t seen The Foot Fist Way with Danny McBride I suggest you check it out
@@tylerp3327 lol
@@tylerp3327 I think that its not a mcdojang, they charge like 50$ a month and they did a goop job at teaching henry
Cant wait for this, Jesse is one of the best guys in movies these days.
it's been a while since ive seen a trailer that breaks the rules
good on you B STREET
Eddy Que what are the rules
there are no rules, just a lack of creativity.
@@gyrolad1585 the rules are u need to reveal all plot twits and climax in your trailer they broke that and did not do it.
it looks so boring
ya but it was edited, look at other trailers about movie. If b st made the movie it would have been better
Shouldn't he have chosen "D: Self Defense and/or trauma"?
MythicalSalmon He was admitting trauma seconds ago when he was taking about what intimidates him
@@kevinzelaya4544 I'm thinking those words were either out of context, or mere thoughts.
He chickened out at the last minute, it seems.
the joke is the mismatch between meaningful individual experience and the detached indifference of our bureaucratic processes. the mundane requirements of running the business take precedence over the symbolic importance of the journey of learning karate. this idea is echoed again with the joke about the $15 belt.
Wooooooooosh
Finally made a movie about Kip's karate training from Napoleon Dynamite!
THIS.
Brilliance...
HELLS YES!
Riley is such a fantastic filmmaker, Jesse eisenberg is always good (yes he's always good), and I saw IMOGEN POOTS (the goat). I'm already in the theater guys. I"m in the bag.
I've already rented out a private screening. I AM HERE FOR THIS MOVIE.
Nice to see Riley’s film is finally releasing! Also Alessandro Nivola is so underrated but great! I’m in I’m in I’m in!
Okay your commercial is the first commercial in the history of CZcams commercials that actually got me wanting to see a movie.
love the comedic jab at hole-in-the-wall karate centers that operate more like a business than a dojo
Good, refreshing to see that some people do remember the meaning of the word 'trailer'. A+
Wow! Now THAT'S a trailer!!
The karate instructor needs to read audio books. I could listen to him all day
How long do I have to wait for this to come out? I need it now
All praise the gods of CZcams's algorithms for chucking this trailer like a kick to the nuts.
Gotta see this bad boy.
Seeing those bums stuck back @ 4 ~ 5 seconds, said it all. That's how I remember Karate every time from my past. Awesome.
i'm really excited for this
This actually looks... Really good!? Damnit, you got me.
(in the break room just after punching the boss in the throat) "We should do push-ups".
Jesse's professional acting style makes me so excited to watch the movie.
This looks like comedy gold.
Saw it at MD film fest 10/10 would recommend
Goooooooooo Jesse Eisenberg.
This looks AMAZING.
This movie looks fantastic!
looks good
Looks really interesting ! Jesse Eisenberg nails every role 💫
Not lex Luthor
Agreed, I hated that Luthor, @@iralgaming4375 yet overall I think he's an amazing actor.
@@Jianju69 He was the best Lex Luthor we've seen on screen.
floored
riley delivering kino
Looking forward to watching this movie. When will it be released ?
Saw it already. It was hilarious. Highly suggest.
Really ?
Yeah. Saw a pre show with some other movies a while ago.
This role is perfect for him
Definitely going to end up on Netflix
I wanna see it now 😩😩😩
"I didn't play by the rules, but there never were any rules."
I have to see this
I saw it. Really good movie.
The director is just wow
my man riley on the come up
Pay the McSensai an extra 1000 and just have him go ahead and give you your black belt after just a few private "fast track black belt classes"Jesse. The only stipulation is that anytime you get into a fight and inevitably get your ass kicked, you must repeat the ancient McDojo mantra "I'm lovin' it!" over and over until you are unconscious.
Love Jesse Eisenberg
This looks fucking hilarious!
Hahaha! Lex Luthor wants to learn karate to protect himself from Superman.
Woah...
I think this movie could be a cult in a few years.
I typed in " michael cera new movie" and this was the first option😩😩
This kind of has a "The Foot Fist Way" feel to it...

Saw this movie at SXSW it was awesome go see it!
Describe it...
Takoshi Hitsamaru it was super funny I couldn’t stop laughing. The audience loved it
@@julianramirez1536 Yeah, sorry mate, we have to go deeper...
This is gonna be a jem
It would be interest if there's a twist in this, that the dojo's sensei turns out to be full of crap and that he's a fake instructor.
In an interview, the director said this is a statement against "toxic masculinity", so yeah, I'd say they'll make the sensei into a piece of crap.
@@JohnDoe-pt7ru It would certainly be interesting if our protagonist is a man who grew up without a father.
Finally a movie about me!
When does the movie come out???
Ignoring the Batman V Superman Blooper, Jesse is still one of my favourite actors ever!
It’s like a remake of Fist Foot Way
What was the metal he picks up from the record store?
I’ve been corrected so many times
He really should have played Riddler.
so i slowly paused the video and you can clearly see it unless u pause it multiple times, but at 0:39 , i really wanted to get a closer look at this dark scenery, so i paused and you can see his head is smashed behind the fire hydrant, and not actually hitting it. :)
From what I understand there's a lot of pretending that goes on during the making of a movie
When's the release date?
Blu-ray Oct 15
Is this a movie or a tv show
I liked the part where he beheads the scottish guy with a katana.
The can only be one!
Riley Stearns makes a karate movie, but not a BJJ movie.... why?
I have been wanting a proper high quality film about BJJ. They need to make one already.
Is this based on a true story?
Yes, It's part an origin story for Lex Luthor based on his journey becoming he's meant to be.
Karate kid 2019
This looks like a novel adaptation
*Defence. I live in the UK.
You don't matter
is that Fight Club????
''I want to be what intimidates me''
''I want to be batman''
the answer was clearly D
For those who can take it
Idk why but that looked like Tom Ford to me.
I am praying this movie will focus heavily on the parts at 0:18 - 0:40. To me that seems like a real intresting and relevant topic for todays society. Please just don´t let it be another generic comedy.
This is what happened after the bully in the Charles Atlas cartoon kicked sand in the scrawny boy's face.
Lex Luthor: Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it? No Sensei! Lex Luthor: Superman does not exist in this dojo, does he!? Lex Luthor: We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in the streets, in competition. A man confronts you, A Kryptonian deserves no mercy. What is the problem? Mr. Lawrence!?
👨💻 *Jesse Eisenberg* who starred His portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher's The Social Network (2010)

Should we not tell Jesse Eisenberg that Karate (alone) have been proven wrong as a way to approach modern self-defense? I hope the "sinister world of fraternity" means MMA + weapon use training (Bo + Kali sticks + KA-Bar + Desert Eagle).
Is this prequel to zombieland
Training to defeat Superman, eh Luthor?
Eisenberg back to playing nebbish guys in movies that no one cares about. Like it should be.
Isn't he always playing the same charcter, Mark Zuckerberg? 😄😄
Lex you know learning Karate won't help you beat Superman right??
Is this directed by Wes Anderson?
Karate is not for Self defense!
Woah, a movie where Jesse Eisenberg plays Jesse Eisenberg. How is he so good at being Jesse Eisenberg? Seriously.
No man in the sky intervened when I was a boy to deliver me from Daddy's fist and abominations

I'm just going to be that guy, karate is not the art of self-defense, Taekwondo is.

In what way? I am a karateka and am aware of its limitations (and so also train in other martial arts) but in my limited experience TKD seems even more limited than karate from a self defense perspective. Barely any focus on hand techniques or grappling/wrestling/throwing. Try doing a jumping spinning hook kick to the head when your on the streets and wearing skinny jeans.
@@Carell117 Well the specific kick you described was originally designed to knock heavy armored soldiers off horseback so actually using that kick today would be silly. The point of it still being taught is not to be used but rather push the body past it's normal day to day expectation to be better prepared for anything at anytime. And if the TKD you're speaking of isn't ITF or USTF than it's probably not legit Taekwondo. My instructor and I taught plenty of hand techniques and grappling. But yes it's always beneficial to cross train. No one art is ultimately superior. Also skinny jeans? Really don't think those were around when ANY martial art was created lol
