A dark comedy set in the world of karate. The film centers on Casey (Jesse Eisenberg), who is attacked at random on the street and enlists in a local dojo led by a charismatic and mysterious Sensei (Alessandro Nivola), in an effort to learn how to defend himself. What he uncovers is a sinister world of fraternity, violence and hypermasculinity and a woman (Imogen Poots) fighting for her place in it. Casey undertakes a journey, both frightening and darkly funny, that will place him squarely in the sights of his enigmatic new mentor. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
This movie goes literally from Adult Contemporary to Metal in 1hr44m.

Perfectly nailed the McDojo experience
Yes everything was just a pleasure to watch as someone who has experience with karate
"I didn't play by the rules, but there never were any rules"
this dojo is hardly a mcdojo, they're actually pretty good at what they do. mcdojo's are weak, inefficient and fake, but still gets lots of money like mcdonalds
They're more of a cult

This film is darker than what the trailer portrays. Not everyone will like it but I do.
I just did, it was amazing.
The finger punch 😁
Watched it last night 🤣 ending was gold
This movie was atrocious.
Wir müssen Deutsch sprechen, um männlicher zu sein
There haven't been enough movies with this tone lately, so when you add karate to this mix, I'm down for it immediately!
I like how you, a youtuber with over 2,000,000 subscribers just casually comments on a movie trailer and you only get 24 likes on this comment XD.
ScreamMario51 agreed lmao
@Syed Haider I know I'm not the guy you responded to but I'm sticking that on my list
I agree, we need more like this. I just watched The Dead Don't Die with Bill Murray last week, and I think it definitely has a similar tone, albeit with much drier humor lol.

This movie was really good. I loved the absurdity of some of the dialogue but it's delivered so sincerely. Gets pretty intense toward the 2nd half.

Technically that category of weapon is called a Pistol.
Eisenberg always nailed this kind of characters....
I love this movie so much, it's like a combination of fight club and cobra kai
as somebody who has been doing Karate since I was seven, I find this hilarious, and some of it very relatable, like running through sequences at work (1:54) (I did this at school alot), the massive hype up about things which in reality don't matter to much (2:17), and how much people hate withe belts (0:42) (context: alot of people join and become white belts, then they go up two or three belts then leave, yet still think they can take on anyone and win)
SniperSpy10 same camp here. I am going to show my dojo friends this trailer.
I quit at yellow belt and I’ll kick your ass.
I’d hate to be a part of your dojo. Completely missed the entire essence of karate and turned it into some church youth group.
@John Edward I am a BJJ guy but Karate can be effective if modified properly.Just look at Wonderboy
@John Edward i hope you're joking because most MMA fighters are either ex Karate champions,or they practiced it for years.
It's a really sharp, well written and funny movie. The satire is spot on, the direction is nicely controlled, and the performances are perfecty droll. Highly recommended
thanks dad
Its actually shit and waste of time film doesnt have any logic. don’t watch it
Definitely not for everyone, and it's darker and deeper than what's on the surface. You feel like it's a dry dark comedy but it really isn't. It's just so dark it's funny. "They thought he was a bird" and the "one finger death punch of the three sensei" really was quite brilliant. It's a light bulb later. Very deep. Very good. My sort of movie.
Nice.
The movie is kind of weird but in a good way. The ending was unexpected, I recommend watching. Jesse's always in good stuff.
I remember stopping the trailer half way into it a few months back, boy am I happy I did!
This movie is freaking awesome!
Came back today to watch the full trailer with such a sense of satisfaction!
😁
I did the exact same, but right after I heard something about a dark sensei. So watching it a knew there had to be something off and I never really interpreted it as a comedy. I was more off put with the humor than laughing. It was a great sinister movie.

As A Martial Artist I went to watch the film. For those that care the techniques presented in the film were accurately portrayed. Jee, I wonder what kind of character Jesse Eisenberg plays in this one, I was really curious and couldnt tell before seeing the trailer.
TheBaioken it’s like the same case with micheal cera
@@yerok5789 Except when he played "himself" in This is the End, it was quite refreshing actually
He plays that kind of character well. Not all actors have the versatility to convincingly play different people, but even though he is often type cast in this role I think he’s shown he’s flexible. Not a great movie IMO, but he was very different in Batman vs Superman
This Channel has a Clever Name youth in revolt is also a very underrated movie. Not only is it funny as hell, but cera shows he can play his polar opposite
@@Pheonix8877 I'll check that out! To be fair i love both actors, Scott pilgrim and adventureland were surprisingly good imo

they already have the yellow letterings, all they need is bright colors and wierd camera movements, the girl already acts like she's on a wes anderson movie
I started out hating this movie and ended up glad I watched it. So metal.
The part with him crying in his car after trying to act tough was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. We've all taken a few lessons in something then think we can do it like a pro, and they captured that perfectly in this.
This movie was a lot more violent than i thought it was going to be.
This movie blew my mind. It has the most unpredictable storyline. Loved the punch through the skull with the index finger.

watching this movie at this moment. Dude, I'm liking it so far. This is the kind of film which you will watch when you needed to do something that would inspire you- philosophically you will watch it- apply what it taught you. Just like Casey's character- he is then going with the flow of learning self-defense to keep himself feeling strong from every obstacle and frustration in life.
Man, this film was absolutely fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! From front to back, this film did not disappoint! I highly recommend this film for anyone who is into dark comedies. The kind of movie worthy of holding a spot in my collection, so I will definitely buy this film.
Steven Seagal should be in this to give it the Bullshido fragrance...
Nah, Seagal hasn't been relevant for more than two decades, and this isn't his type of movie. Its not one where he's shooting and beating up hundred of goons without taking a single hit despite the fact that he's so fat he needs stunt doubles just for standing!
Seagal refused because he likes to fondle brunettes only
Actually, he would be perfect for the role of the way too aggressive sensei. That character is him in a nutshell.
Napoleon Dynamite fans will love this.

A lot of metal dudes got sodomized in their youth, like that Slipknot guy.
Euphoric Atheist Also, a lot of dudes didn’t. There are lots of reasons individuals are drawn to extreme art, and they aren’t always about trauma. Besides, metal has always walked a fine line between Dutch Golden Age and Absurdism. A lot of metal is exceptionally difficult to play and requires players that are as talented as they are disciplined. This music functions for many in the same way exercise does for others. It isn’t just people screaming about being molested. Sure, that happens sometimes, but that doesn’t define the genre as one of damaged goods or bad apples. Give it a chance, pal. You might be surprised.
