Ask Chuck Odette.
At the age of 66, Chuck Odette is a likely candidate for oldest climber you’ll see at the crag. But he won’t be the weakest. Chuck lives a life centered around rock climbing. Seven years ago he retired from work, sold his home, and lit out across the country with his wife in a sixteen-foot camp trailer to chase good weather and steep rock.

As an active climber in their 50s - I find Chuck more inspiring than the Ondras, Megos, Sharmas of the world. Probably because he represents the POSSIBILITY of climbing at a reasonable standard long past what most people would ever consider.
Amazing. I'm just hitting my stride in my mid-40s. No expectation to climb at this level at 67, but I'd rather be hitting 9's and 10's than hitting the couch. It's inspiring to see what's possible.
I'm in the same boat. Just starting to learn how to train after 20yrs of trying. 😅

it's so great to see those older guys showing that possibility!!! really opening up our minds - and that is such a crucial part!!! if your brain actually sees it's possible... it helps a lot to keep going ourselves :)
I feel this. I’m 45, but I only started climbing less than 2 years ago. I HAVE to believe that I will be able to put up 5.13/V10 plus within the next 5-10 years. How I wish I’d started 10 years ago …
@@PompousPicard1 That would be quite the accomplishment if you did! I think it's possible though it would need significant investment. Avoiding injury while doing so will be your biggest challenge I suspect. Good luck and enjoy the process!

So cool, on so many levels. To follow the passions of one's heart, mind, & body, in the beauty of the outdoors, with those we love,... a very fine way to be. And,.. well the aging thing arises (if we are lucky),... the real beauty may be,.. if one is lucky enough to still desire,.. to want to play the games of our youth. Chuck & Maggie, have a great Winter season of wonderful play,.. and pulling hard too. : )

Thank you 🙏 for appreciating me, and I can assure you that Charlie-Chuck does, too! We're a team, and he contributes as much to my successes as I try to contribute to his. We're often even projecting the same route together, and he definitely gets his belaying hours in. And although it may not come across in the video, my momma taught me that my own happiness is my first priority!
