Watching Alex climb this you can even tell by his facial expressions that hes unsure of certain holds and figuring out the path as he goes. but when he free solos he know exactly where each hold is and how hes going to hold it. Truly a master.
He on-site free solos.. doesn’t always plan or memorise the route
He said in some interview that he prefers to climb with ropes because he can push to the limit
Emily Harrington -- major inspiration!
That plain and then those mountains in the background, so beautiful.
That’s a real cool view of Alex cruising up the road !
They climb that mountain like I just take a walk on flat land lol. I know one thing I am certain of -that is one thing I'm never going to do! They are amazing!
You must have an interesting gait.
There are 7 other films on this channel that showcase free climbing. This is the only one that uses free in the title. Good marking. Rad footage.
Awesome send guys 🤘
That was awesome! I'd like to see a "behind the scenes" video showing how you filmed it & how you climbed back down! Cheers! ✌️
Yeah all the time I was thinking how did the film crew got up there. Aid climbing? I can't figure it out
@@WalkingNose boltgun
@@WalkingNose jetpacks!
For some reason climbing videos never show anchor building, the descent off the summit, or rope and gear management. I've seen lots and lots and lots and lots of videos of athletes clinging to precarious holds. Why not show us how the sport is done?
@@matt_w if you search you will find
My hands are automatically sweating when I watch Alex climb.
Good to see you being safe with a friend
Nice! Looks like a fun climb!
I’m amazed when watching these elite climbers, that the holds are just ripples in the rock and they just use the friction of their rubber soles to stay on the face! Skill and strength plus huge mental control👍
Thank for the video. Inwas hiping for more climbing oriented audio. I could have done without the music being the dominant audio most of the time.
Epic, I love these video's!
Hannold x The North Face ... greatest marketing campaign of all time
Nike x Jordan.
Hugo Boss x Hitler Youth ... I could go on..
Enjoyed
2:07 - don't forget 'feel good'😂
whenever i wear patterns w patterns i say that to myself....
Awesome looking peak!!
Nice climbing!
Couple of monsters here! Nice work
So weird to see alex honnold wear that much safety gears lol
Why?
Do you not watch much climbing?
The dude ALWAYS has gear.
@@sendthis9480 i know he has most of the time. But his fame came largely (to the non-climbers public) from the movies "alone on the wall" and "free solo" where he does not, that's what i was joking about.
@SendThis shut up with this already. The dude climbs 99.99% of the time with gear
@@Monscent hey, I’m sure you have good points but let’s be respectful to everyone
How often does he wear a helmet?
why was this uploaded only 7 years later?
how did they film this
I dint know about team he says haha ain't that the truth. Love how blunt he is. I'm the same way
Oh here we go again... me watching Alex Honnold while holding onto my chair to tight so I don't fall off!!
total walk in the park for both of these climbers
disagree.
I’d say Emily stole the show! Handing out the beta work girl!
Wonder why they bolted the shit out of it when there were some nice cracks for pro ?
Why so many bolts? Why so many quick cuts?
Does anyone know why these films are only
probably because it's actually a North Face commercial and any longer than 6 minutes, a lot of people will notice and stop feeling good about NF. or Maybe the whole climb will slowly be released chopped up into more 6 minute N.F. commercials.
Old TC pros = old footage
Right?
Jacket model? (Honnold)
… the didn’t leap frog. Did they each lead every pitch?
Damn I wish I will be able to climb such mountains one time in my life. I have been climbing again for almost a year but I'm pretty far still.
you can for sure. get strong enough to climb 6a and you can climb thousands of amazing multipitches all over the world
@@gemigtunnan I can climb 6b already
@@RonaiHenrik then you have alot of options my friend to climb amazing multipitches already :D
@@gemigtunnan I meant 6b boulders. My most difficult single pitch was a 6+ (6a) or maybe a 7- (6a+). I only have 1 friend to clim together with and there are no multi-pitch routes close by.
@@RonaiHenrik when you do myltipitch, dont push grades. Go down to 4's and 5's. Take a multipitch class with a good guide. You will have an awesome time!
They are always like squabbling siblings
Hola
Ow!
You know you’re climbing hard when you have chalk on your face!😅
Thank you god and thank you alex for fucking using ropes this time. The shit i have seen you do I can't stand losing you
Peter Croft in the flashback looks like he just rolled out of bed, no challenge encountered :p
Sorry, can someone educate me? I thought free climbing means if you fall, you die. But if either of these climbers fall they are attached to the wall with ropes. what's the difference if they were climbing regular. Thanks
Free rock climbing is where the climber can only use climbing equipment for climbing protection, but not as an aid to help in their progression in ascending the route. Free climbing therefore cannot use any of the tools that are used in aid climbing to help overcome the obstacles encountered while ascending a route. Then there is Soloing which means climbing alone with a rope and protection, but free soloing means no rope and no protection.
@@Insolation1 thank you 😊
I have to say, I'm so happy Alex is no longer free soloing. He's such an amazing climber and athlete, it would be shame to lose him.
I think he still does free soloing on certain routes. He just did a free solo video with Magnus Carlson about 7 months ago. If you have not seen it, you absolutely should.
czcams.com/video/Cyya23MPoAI/video.html
@@Zach-hm6ky lol "Magnus Carlson". you are playing too much chess.
He still free solos, and it's not like that was the only thing he ever did. The routes he's free'd were climbed by him with a partner dozens of times before he made any attempt to free them.
@@raaaayli LOL WOW. That would be quite the video. My bad 😂 You all know what i mean.
So glad to see him not free climbing since he's a father. At least I hope that's why
He is free climbing in this video. He's not free soloing in this video
@@murphlaa that is so sad fathers who risk their children growing up without a dad for their ego should really be Criminal
@@sploo13 thanks for clarifying that.
@@robertfreeman3831 cry about it lol
You would probably laugh at his kids tears too if he loses his daddy
💕😇🎆💗😘♥️❣️❤️💖
What desert is she talking about?
She’s talking about that big flat desert known as Nevada.
Torrey chill bro. You already got deleted. Be nice
@@ellisrasmussen4193 Don’t tell me what to say or do Ellie.
@@torreyintahoe You mean that flat green lawn they showed in the pic?
@@Dave1507 you think that s what she was talking about?
please excuse me if this is the wrong thing to say,but be careful out there... no pun intended but the rest of us look up to you both.....
Good to hear they weren't aid climbing
Crazy they freesoloed that!
@@davepassaro8366 sarcasm? I didn't see any free soloing in this video.
@@airspeed159 he’s free solaring 😮
@@airspeed159 I believe they changed the title of the video from something that sounded pretty weird to climbers
@@themeatpopsicle what is the problem with the title ?? it is written free climbing and I saw free climbing...
Not for me. I already get sweaty hands and feet free soloing my roof to install an antenna.
This gives “I don’t want to be here” vibes from Alex 😂
huh? he is a professional climber, having an epic one day out with a really great friend of his, on an iconic piece of California stone, riddled with climbing history... what on earth makes you think he didn't want to be there?
@@FooDawg Ohh gee idk.. certainly not the camera crew that clearly makes him uncomfortable. He’s openly spoke about not liking cameras.
More so, it was just a joke… just breath buddy you’ll be okay
@@Hikergy16 Lol... whatever you say :rolls eyes:
"Jesus Christ!!" Wait, I thought you were an atheist! Cool video anyway.
IM A CAT MEOW MEOW MEOW OH MAN IM TRANSFORMING AHH IT HURTS SO BAD MEOW MEOW MEOW im a cat now
The chaos.
Whatever that white rope is, it looks stiff af.
A team or not a team ? In the UK we call 2 climbers linked by a rope.....you guessed it........ a rope of climbers.
In america we see wife as ball and chain climbing
The sawtooths are so sexy but none of you should go there it’s horrible
1 min in: that’s a lot of gear for a free solo. *Rereads title* 🙄
It's not free solo: it's free climbing. That means the ropes are just for safety and play no role in climbing up.
That doesn't look fun to climb at all - just really hard on the fingers.
"next time harder and bigger" lol thats what she said
Definitely put the word "free" in the title to get more clicks from the non climber audience. well played
It is freeclimbing. Without a rope would be free solo
Glad they did that. Maybe a few more people will understand the term.
Definitely a guy who thinks it's cool to know climbing terms LMAO you're so cool 😂😂😂😂
Or maybe you don’t know what free climbing is ?
Let’s be real here.
You came to be a fanboi and got disappointed…right?
Loved the climbers and the climbing but really felt like a scripted 6 minute North Face commercial.
I don't think that was considered "free climbing" was it? Lol.
yeah, it is
He owns a rack of gear? How disappointing.😂
Ok, so I get that it's not "free solo." But what in the world is "free climbing?" Avoiding the fees at the gym? Since they're using ropes and cams, isn't it "trad?"
They're not free climbing...
yes they are, look up the definition
Free climbing is not free soloing.
Free climbing is a form of rock climbing in which the climber may use climbing equipment such as ropes and other means of climbing protection, but only to protect against injury during falls and not to assist vertical or horizontal progress.
free climbing while attached to a rope? did the definition of free climb change?
Looks like you don't know the definition of free climbing
somehow i feel sorry for you
thatsthe definition of Free Climbing xD
It hasn't changed. Nothing but free climbing in this video.
Free climbing and free soloing are 2 different things.
Helmets and ropes, total softies.
