That white people talk about you 24/7 is not true. I have better things to do with my time than talk about someone who has a different skin color than mine. That's part of the problem. Black people say they are proud but they won't let go of their victimhood. We're talking about a hairstyle. I don't complain when I see a black woman with straight hair in a ponytail! Isn't that white appropriation?

I have locs because I’ve learned to love myself as a bw. I spent years going to the Dominican salon. Spending my money to keep up with a look that wasn’t me naturally. My husband came to me with a fade a low cut. And now his locs are well past his shoulders. My daughters locs are all the way near her buttocks. We’re proud of our locs. My daughter tells me everyday she’s so happy to look like me hair and all. I’m happy that I didn’t ever start straightening her hair. I could care less WHO has locs but I have mine for reasons such as self love and that’s a journey. Also for me locs are far from a point of vanity. It’s actually was a terrifying process to commit one’s self to the locs. And the phases of my locs sometimes were hard to look at but every phase was me. Naturally me.

I’ve seen people say it bothers them because they don’t get certain opportunities because of their Afro hairstyles like braids locs etc. and that is true I’ve even been told at the work place once that my natural hair was intimidating. This was in 2014. Meanwhile they had a Jewish young lady with a curly head of hair allowed to waltz around with her curls flowing freely. Yet mine were intimidating lol. To each their own. Do you. If you want locs I’m sure nobody is going to stop you and harm you in any way mentally or physically. It’s not that deep. Loc it up ❤️

I was literally forced or told I’d be sent home without pay. That’s not even legal I was a damn sales rep for goodness sakes lol. My hair wasn’t intimidating anyone. Just the man that ran the office I worked for. He also HATED locs. He didn’t hire a qualified man because he had locs. I occasionally look this man up and he’s still thriving of course. Probably still oppressing people. He used to say people with locs do drugs openly during team night to us whenever he saw anyone with them. He hated braids too. Yes you guess it. He was a white man. Not saying all white people are like that but I’m sure that wasn’t difficult to guess lol.

It’s because you embraced yourself that happened to you. These things don’t often happen to non black people because they already have the features that are deemed acceptable. And when they wear braids and locs it’s trendy. When we do it it’s “dreadful” and “intimidating”. I wouldn’t say anyone’s gatekeeping. I think bp are tired of being policed about everything down to how they feel. Continue to embrace yourself no matter what and live your truth.

Napoleon and the French became dreadful or dreaded to see people with locs because they were able to defeat the world's strongest military. Even in the Bible the term is loc not dreadloc.....stop it. This is a hair style this a lifestyle. Are you or your white cousin. Bobo Ashanti, Rastafarian, Nyahbinghi, Kemites, Kushites, or Sumarian? If not you shouldn't have locs. Most locs don't allow members to have locs touched by people outside of the tribe. Some loc tribes won't allow their locs to be uncovered in public. So many hear completely miss the point he was making. This is why people who are clueless on race and culture get things so wrong so often. First thing is he never said Black people own dreds. Second thing is he never said others cant wear dreds. Third is the entire point of the video was not completely about dreds itself. It was about making clueless assumptions on things you dont really know about. Let me explain.
His entire point was that all Black people dont wear dreds simply because they like them which is what the Asian dude said. That doesn't mean some dont, because they do. Many wear them for religious or cultural reasons. This is the whole point. He wears them because he likes them, but you cant then assume Black people as a whole also wear them simply because they just like them.
We can even take race completely out of this and use another example. Some Christians wear the cross because it means something to them. It is a representation of their connection with their religion. Not everybody that wears the cross feels this way. Some just wear it because it looks cool, or so they think. Yet it would be wrong of me to assume that everybody wears the cross simply because it looks cool to them. The same can be said with certain tattoos. Certain tattoos mean something and some people get them because of that meaning while others get it simply because they like it.
Yall need to put your hate aside and listen to what was actually said and explained in the video with great detail.

I waited because of the gate keeping but when I seriously contemplated getting locs, I did a lot of searching on the internet. I learned about Rastafarianism, the history of locs in cultures and contemporary perspectives. I found a large divide in this subject. In the end, I did what was right for me and I will never give up my locs. I am grateful to whoever and wherever they come from and in my journey gained a deep respect for the Rastafarians.

And no loc tribe allows "tools of Babylon" Combs, brushes, dyes, rubber bands, etc to be used on their locs. Older tribes would behead you for this (shave your head).
