    (I noticed some of you respondents below wonder how Miguel acquired his technique and mastery of the electric bass and how he has such a vast repertoire of complicated Yes songs bass lines flawlessly memorized. Grab a refreshing beverage and kick back a spell 'cause I'm gonna tell you-uns a true strory...forgive me, please, Miguel!)
    Once upon a time when Miguel was a little boy and showing signs of being musically talented, there was an old woodshed in his parent's backyard (thoughtfully named the Squire Shire) that his mom & pop fixed up for him to study and practice. The woodshed had round-wound carpeting, Filtertron faucets, and even a hamster in spandex with a pronounced front-butt running on a treadmill generator to provide electricity for his amp, overdrive & flanger pedals that Santa brought to Miguel for Christmas one year! He was nicely told by his folks 'If you don't practice your Indonesian P-Bass you can't have a Rickenbacker 4001! How can you have a Rickenbacker 4001 if you don't practice your Indonesian P-Bass!?'
    When Miguel grew up enough to have sufficient grip/arm strength his parents let him out of the woodshed much more often so as to experience various musical genres, and so he started studying and practicing Jazz and orchestral excerpts on the big double bass. Miguel much preferred pizzicato playing style over arco and found out when he was about 16 or 17 that chicks really seemed to like the look/sound of his Ric - especially when he 'plectrummed' it playing progressive rock covers with his amp turned up loud - over the pudgy muted sound of his acoustic bass plodding through symphonic movements at Lento tempi(!)
    The little neighbor boy, showing impressive musical talent on the guitar when only a toddler, living next door was not as fortunate as Miguel. See, his parents were absent and abusive and built for him a chicken coop in their back yard and locked the poor child in - to be raised by chickens! Beastly! Er, except the chickens really liked his guitar playing and would peck & scratch out licks, scales, beaky beat brakes, & arpeggios on his First Act guitar fretboard every other day for him to practice. They also forbid him to eat any meat - especially NOT chicken - if he was to receive a real Gibson custom shop white Les Paul with a kill switch that the chickens were saving some of their egg money for as a surprise for the boy one day! Only kernels of corn, some bread crust bits, aphids, and small pebbles were offered by the chickens for the boy to eat. No pudding at all...
    The boy finally grew up and escaped the shack, disguised himself and the shame he carried inside his foul soul by wearing a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket over his head so he could go on tour showcasing his blazing fretboard technique - like our subject Miguel likes to do - sans KFC bucket of course(!) Not only did this allow him to earn a living (folks just called him Buckethead as nobody knew his real name) but also to save money so as to hatch a plan to shut down all the chicken processing plants around the world & get certain 'krispy' and 'spicey' items at fast food joints OFF the menu!
    And to this day the KFC chicken-fried young shredder is still out wandering on perpetual busking tour...looking for a paying audience. Some folks say Buckethead is also a lover of the band Yes and is looking for Miguelbass so they can jam and maybe form a Yes tribute band, or better - audition for membership in and a revival of the real Yes band! It could happen. I hope it happens!
    (Well, that's the story I heard from somewhere...perhaps from Davie504...or maybe at Vic Wooten's musical Kung foo camp...only Pino P knows! ;-)

    Magnifico! Very nicely done, and with your usual verve! One of my favorite Yes songs, highly underrated. It even contains my FAVORITE BASS NOTE EVER RECORDED, if you can believe I have such a thing. . . at 7:18 here, under the sung word "history." I think of it as the "fart." 8-)
    And you pulled off the keys/bass duel part very cleanly. I do have a question though: On your website you mention that you used a Tech 21 Bass Driver for this. If you can remember, what settings would you have used on the Bass Driver? Also: Back pickup only?!

    • @miguelbass
      @miguelbass  Před 9 lety

      Aha :) I know that farting note that Chris plays so well :) There is one similar in "That That is" - a low E, do you remember? :) That's a nice thought - "the favourite bass note" :)) As for the BDDI, I did post my sansamp settings on a few other videos, please watch the Release Release clip because my settings are around there. For this one I used the bridge pickup only. Thank you!
