    Yo soy Guatemalteca! When I visit family I mostly stay in the capital, so seeing this video of Santiago was really nice. We're hoping to go back to Guatemala in 2021, so we will now plan a trip to Santiago. Thank you!!

      Thank you! 😊 Yes, you should definitely visit Santiago Atitlán if you are in Guatemala. It is a very interesting town, especially as you have Maximón there.

    Wow. I am used to the wonderful and colourful images, and the views from amazing heights and beaches. This story about Maximon ws totally informative and interesting. Indeed so great to find out about the culture of other people within their own settings. Tragedy hitting the people hard. I still can't fathom why there is war. Awesome video guys! Amazing editing. ❤️👍🎥🌷🙋‍♀️

      Yes, Santiago Atitlán is very different from the other towns because of its rich and interesting history. This is something we really like about Lake Atitlán, that you just a short boat ride away can experience a totally different vibe than the neighbouring villages. The story of Maximón is so interesting and we would love to know a lot more about him. Maybe next time we will try to book a tour with the brotherhood, to get a more deep understanding of Maximón. We put a lof of effort in the editing of this video so we are very happy to hear that you like it 💙

    We've never been to Guatemala and know very little about it. Thanks for taking us there. We'd love to be featured on a coin as well. What an amazing story :). Never seen so many avocados at once 🥑🥑🥑. We always smoke and drink before going to church too 🍸🍹🍸. Small world! The mural on the stairs was our favorite 🤩.

    That is SO cool that the majority of the residents of Santiago are indigenous Mayan people. I find that absolutely fascinating. Those avocados!! Holy cow that would be paradise stumbling upon them like that. The story behind Mashimom (sp?) the deity is super interesting. Love that he keeps moving and you guys had to seek him out. So funny that he likes alcohol, cigarettes, and money! Thank you for sharing, we can't wait to visit Guatemala.

    • @DreamyTravelStory
      @DreamyTravelStory  Před 3 lety

      Haha, yes it's like coming to avocado paradise 🥑 Santiago is really an interesting town with its rich culture and traditions. You definitely have to go there when you are in Guatemala 🇬🇹

    That is so cool looking for the lady on the coin and glad that you were able to find her. And it was amazing that people are very helpful on your quest to find her. I love the crowded market. Made me miss my home country, Philippines. The market looks exactly like that in our province. Wow, that is a lot of avocados! Your trip seems like a quest to look for someone. Love that you have a target. I love the historical information on this specially about Maximon. Santiago is indeed a beautiful place.

      Yes, we were so happy that we found both Maximón and Concepcion Ramírez 😊 We would love to travel to Philippines. I (Marion) has been there once but want to explore it together with Giorgio. Where in Philippines are you from?

    So cool to find the women on the coin and amazing to hear she became a real spokesperson against this violence. Cutting of all his limbs, that is a cruel version of the story. I love the indoor food market and the murals / street art at the end. Did it change your life, or did it more form you as a person as you are today? Great and very informative video! Great effort put into this documentary style story telling!

    • @DreamyTravelStory
      @DreamyTravelStory  Před 3 lety

      Thank you so much! Well, for me (Giorgio) Santiago has a special meaning, because there I really felt that I was reconnecting with my origin. The story of Maximon is really interesting and yes, some version very cruel.

  • @Liesel81-across-all-borders

    wow I really love the murals and the fact that you guys are volunteering in the hotel. Guatemala looks pretty chill and normal considering the vibes you get from other places these days. Maybe i will come see you guys :-)

      @DreamyTravelStory  Před 3 lety

      We are not in Guatemala anymore, so this footage is from before lockdown. The lockdown was the reason why we had to stop our travelling. We had Cuba, Mexico and NYC already booked after Guatemala but those trips were cancelled. Since mid September the borders of Guatemala are open again but there are still some restrictions in the country. So if you decide to go soon it's worth checking all the restrictions before so you know what to expect.

    That was definitely a maze of narrow alleyways to find the lady on the coin! Interesting story as to who she is/what she has done to earn her place on money. 🙂 We love all of the colors at the market; such a lively place! Do you know how they put Maximon's money offerings to use? Did you buy a rose for Marion, Giorgio? 😀 So sad, the massacre... Fried ice cream, April says sign her up!! 🍦

    • @DreamyTravelStory
      @DreamyTravelStory  Před 3 lety

      No rose for me 😭 But I was happy again when I got the icecream 😊 We are not sure how the use the offering but we guess it goes to the church and also to pay the guys that are taking care of Maximón.

    • @GoTravelOnTheCheap
