New to the climber world and put it to use this hunting season. czcams.com/users/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs I felt safe while climbing up and down a tree. It did take some time getting used to climbing and descending the tree. Once I figured it out I was comfortable going in climbing a tree knowing I was going to be up a tree quickly and most importantly quite not scaring every deer out of my area. I am 6’2” and 240 lbs, fit and comfort were great. I bow hunt and found no issues hunting from it. It is a little bulky to carry in and out of the woods vs some of the smaller open front climbers but I thought it was worth the bulk/weight due to ease of climbing (using the rail to sit on) and comfort for long sits.
I'm a big guy buying my very first climber stand soon, and this video has helped me so much. It has given me the confidence I need to go out, get up a tree, and get my first deer into my freezer. Thank you for the instructional and informative video.
I struggle too because being big also comes with being afraid of heights. I’ve deer hunted since 1975 and i was terrified of climbing into the stands made of wood that my dad built. Climbing in the dark isn’t bad especially with a harness I’m more confident.
I've purchased all the equipment but haven't attempted to use it yet. Thank you so much for this video and all your little tips. I'm sure I'll watch this video a couple more times before deer season. Appreciate the effort and information.
I really appreciate that video, very informative. I just recently got big into deer hunting and my dad isn’t in good enough shape to teach me a lot of the stuff I’ve taught myself. That being said, the climber stands seem a lot easier then what I was told, safer too.
Thanks for a good tutorial. I've avoided tree stands because I'm a klutz. It's good to see these common sense tips and gain more confidence about hunting from a tree!
I always bring a small ratchet strap to tighten the top piece of the climber where i sit to the tree for extra security and also I have two pull tight straps that I hook to the front part of the cableS to secure them to the tree extra tight so that it’s pretty much locked to the tree all the way around.
You are right. One time when I tried to sit, due to my wet boots I slipped and top piece moved to the left and I fell. Fortunately, I have the the safety string attached. The top part should be secured before we sit so that it won't move easily. I always carry a knife on my waist in case I fall and the safety string strangles me, I will cut it loose to let me free as soon as possible. Anything could happen when we are up on a tree.
i have watched a few vids on this....... I am new to the whole climbing stand thing... I have always hunted in family land where they are always just there for me... i want to get a climber so i can hunt other places. This is the best vid I have found yet.
You also need to practice this before hand. Don't show up at three am day of and try to figure it all out for the first time in the cold and dark; get comfortable with it first. Practice packing it in with your weapon with your full kit on. Make sure you have a plan for humping your stand and gear plus your kill out afterwards. And carry a phone or radio (turned off, obviously) in your first aid kit, just in case. All deer stands fail from time to time. There's no reason not to be prepared for the worst.
@@brandonlawhon2097 first hunt I got up successfully. Shot a good size buck and it dropped instantly. I was so excited until reality hit. I never figured out how to get down. The excitement and panicking made me freak out, plus no signal for a youtube video. I ended up just lowering myself down with a rope i brought to pull up my gear and all my stuff off the stand. I drug the deer a whole 2 miles till I got to where we were supposed to meet. We stayed at a hotel near by and three days later after packing up. Some guys pull up to the hotel excited because they found a free tree stand. I was like well, at least someone got it down and pretty much got made fun of the whole 4hr drive to the house. I knew it was mine because it still had the rope tied. They were like "I guess some dumbass never learned how to get down.
Great video! I would never feel safe with a climbing stand like the one in the video. I have an old school Tree Lounge that I bought in 1980, it's all aluminum construction, there are no cables or straps to worry about rusting or rotting away over time.
I prefer my OSHA-approved pelican clips. That's just me. They saved my ass at work from higher than these stands are meant for, so I use them with confidence.
I hear a lot of people mention bark. I am soon trying out my first one, so I'm not an expert. Just wanted to say, to my eye, the leverage is what is keeping each seat in place.
If I remember right a Summit comes with a strap that you put around the tree on the top section to secure it to the tree . I could be wrong but I don`t think so . Nice video
Chuck - My Summit came with one, and they specifically said in the instructions to use it to secure the top section to the tree, just as you have stated. I even ordered a couple of extra lock-down straps off Ebay in case I lose this one (or use it for my trail cam -- it's great for that purpose :) )
Haul rope: I suggest two. One for thee bow and one for you pack. And the clips.. Use a dog lead snap. Walmart $2,50 & they have green ones. Also stabilizer straps are a great way make fhe stand rock solid. You can buy them or make your own. All my climbers have them.
So I have the same stand but a cheaper I’m a newish deer hunter and the only problem I have is where I hunt at is all pine trees and every time I get we’re I wanna hunt I sit in the seat and it slides down and is terrifying eny tips?
Thank you for the clear explanations. I like the video as I find it extremely informative. But one questions hasn’t been answered in the video. What do we do when we need to pee?
that is exactly like my stand and harness BUT I use a bungee cord to secure the seat to the tree. If I bump the seat, it cannot shift until I am ready for it to shift.
Also a good idea to attach a rope to the top portion of the climber and the safety harness buckle that's around the tree. That way if you do fall and happen to knock the climber loose it doesnt fall out of your reach so you can get seated again.
jk, Have the top part about waist high and put all of your weight on it. Pull up the bottom section just enough that it comes free, and point your toes downward, and lower it as far as feels comortable. Test it to make sure it's hooked in the bark good. Then lower the top of the stand back down to your waist again.
too bad you scared every deer away with all the noise you made setting that modified stand up. This is the reason why these stands are miss miss before a hit.

Sir thank you for your time in making this vid. Got my first climber in you helped allot.
It is very obvious when somebody knows what they are doing. This is a great video 👍

Summit Viper comes with a strap that they say you should use exactly for that purpose. I think KYAfield forgot to demonstrate this step.

Can someone bring me food and water or a ladder? I followed this video’s instructions and now I don’t know how to get down…

Good advice!
Good advice. When I got my first climber I was confused on how to get back down haha.
Great advice!!!! Get out in the yard or woods close to home and practice! God bless you sir

@@dethtour ….bro its kinda common sense how to get down 👀 u just do the opposite of how u climbed up lmao… live and learn ig
You made a very good point of making sure the two pieces are tethered together I know from experience lol
Very helpful, thank you
This is a great, very informative video. Thanks a bunch. Getting ready to purchase a climb tree stand & this helped me out a lot.
Aight brother, now I wanna get down… I know we sit on it to get up but yeah 😂
Excellent

Wow thx dude
Carabiner should face up. If you fall, the lock gate will be against the trees, a little rocking back and forth can unscrew the lock gate.
Excellent tutorial

Okay we got up! Now how do we get back down?!! 😂😂
@@Jeff-ch8gvfastest way to come down the tree
Great job!
Loving that halon
Great video, looks a lot easier than using climbing sticks.

very important
Yes, a gator strap comes with Summit stands which is used to secure the top piece. Kinda sad that was forgotten in this video.

Thank for this video a lot of information was able to climb my first tree 20 feet up, but how do I get down? Please help I’ve been up here for 8 hours
After watching this I see now that I very much live life dangerously lol
I hear ya lol

Im having trouble finding a tether. Where can I find one?
Did they add a short reverb to the voice at 6:30?
Thank you for the clear explanations. I like the video as I find it extremely informative. But one questions hasn’t been answered in the video. What do we do when we need to pee?
I always keep an empty gatorade bottle in my pack just in case
I had same question. People said just pee outta the stand, but I assume that would be noisy. I'd bring an empty bottle tbh
Bottle. You’re going to be making noise either way, but there’s a whole lot of scent being sprayed out when you piss from the trees to the ground
@@hec12005 deers and hogs don’t care about human piss I’ve pissed off my stand multiple times and have had them come out right under me unbothered
The bottom wasn’t connected and mine fell 14’ down. Had to shimmy my way down.
Is that a Viper SD stand?
How do you get down?
that is exactly like my stand and harness BUT I use a bungee cord to secure the seat to the tree. If I bump the seat, it cannot shift until I am ready for it to shift.
Fell out of my climber today and it was a bitch pulling myself back in because my rope was too low
Also a good idea to attach a rope to the top portion of the climber and the safety harness buckle that's around the tree. That way if you do fall and happen to knock the climber loose it doesnt fall out of your reach so you can get seated again.
How do you lower your bow after the hunt?
You attach it to the same rope you hauled it up with, and slowly lower it before climbing down
@@hec12005 slowly?? Nah just drop it down
Where can I get this climbing?
Walmart, Bass Pro, Dick's, Gander mountain, nearly anyplace that sell hunting fishing supplies.
How do you get back down?
Opposite way you went up
Opposite of the way u get up, move the bottom one down first then the top
You don't...

Watch the video in reverse
Look at that big jacked-up looking spider at 1:26 right in the middle of the tree. its probably a mutant. This is why I dont go outside.
Yea that’s the most important part of the video
too bad you scared every deer away with all the noise you made setting that modified stand up. This is the reason why these stands are miss miss before a hit.
These just seem like theyre too noisy if youre wanting to have a really good hunt..
Yeah he’s binging unsafe not wearing orange
