My first car was a 1947 Prefect. CHS 879. The dealer wanted £55 so I offered him £50, which he accepted. That was in 1961 when I was 20.
That year with three friends (another boy and two girls but in the interests of decency I'll leave it at that. I did marry one of the girls two years later) we toured Devon and Cornwall camping.
The car broke down the following year on the way to work. It was towed away and I got £5 for it which went towards buying a motor bike for £12. Ex-GPO BSA 125cc Bantam. NWE 430.
Happy carefree days. I'd relive them all over again if I could, especially if my precious and beautiful Jan was still alive.

Yes its a 52/53 model.I had a 53 Prefect in june 1969 paid £12.00 for it.Bought it last thing from a guy in our drawing office because my 48 MGTC was still in my parents garage engine out after full rebuild was getting married in a week and needed transport quick to get down to West Sussex for our honeymoon.Great car never missed a beat drove for another 6 months including going up to Silverstone for the british gp that year.Sold for £14.00 to a neighbour and bought a brand new MG 1275 Midget which was £648.00 inc wire wheels. Those were the days.

Tip for cleaning bakelite is to use boiled linsead oil. It will come up like new. It is also good at restoring modern plastics.

Quite right, I think the enclosed headlights came in 1949.

1942 strange time for a British car to be built by now the factories were all on war production. Was it built for the military but without looking at its history just guessing. Bench seat usually came with a column change gear lever in order to accommodate an extra front seat passenger but this still has the floor mounted gear lever so you would need to be on very friendly terms with the middle passenger 😂
