    The comfort of Bach‘s music and this clear sound are irreplaceable

    I had the privilege of studying this work with Maurice Gendron at the Conservatoire in Paris back in 1971. The experience was revelatory: at a time when many of the most important mainstream cellists (Fournier, Starker, Tortelier) were still using Casals-influenced legato bowings in the Suites, Gendron demonstrated the extent to which Baroque-style détaché bowings could be usable and appropriate on a cello with a modern set-up.

      Wow! Ye are one lucky soul; treasure those precious memories for all eternity, for not many get that blessed and fortunate. :-)

      Extremly fortunate you are! How two schools of bowing differ each other?

    I bought this recording more than ten years ago, and it's been my most cherished ever since. Just can't bear listening to anyone else playing this. Favourite rendition of my favourite piece from my favourite composer.

    Of course we should be grateful to PABLO CASSALS for discovering Bach's Suites. MAURICE GENDRON'S playing is heavenly and recorded superbly. ABRAHAM MAZUMDER. INDIA

    Splendide!

    The prelude gives out a sense of calmness and scent of elegance which I have not heard from other renditions. Like it.

    With the Bylsma rendition and that of Schiff, this Gendron account is my favourite one. 🎶❤️🎵👍🏻

    There are so many great interpretations of this Schiff, Rostropovich, YoYo Ma and Ophelie Gaillard to name a few but this version just has everything. A perfect tempo,beautiful phasing and a wonderful tone.

    Una vez le preguntaron a García Marquez en una conversacion con Alfredo Lam, qué obra se llevaria a una isla solitaria y respondió que esta interpretacion de la Suite para Cello Solo No 1. Conmovedora!

    It was also my first version. And I think it is among the best renditions...

    Gendron's recording is the first I ever heard of the Bach Cello Suites and so it has become some kind of reference for me. To my personal taste many other performers overdo the rubato.

      pinkdispatcher The problem with this being your first version, is that it's likely to then be your ONLY version. I mean...honestly, why bother with the rest?

      @madylane2412 Před 8 lety +2

      the whole piece is almost two hours long.. this is just the first suite :)

      Mady Lane O.O two....hours....long...
      i feel shitty for being part of this generation,
      rihanna: wahwahwahwahwah common lala wahwahwahwahwah (work)
      gendron: 2 hours of complicated music!
      thats it, proof that humans get less and less talented

    • @madylane2412
      @madylane2412 Před 8 lety +2

      Its not so much that our generation is talentless, i think its that this generation wastes its talent singing about bullshit.. ya know?

      Mady Lane the next great balletdancer wastes her/his time by twerking in the club.
      i have a talent but it is useless, i am good-ish at drawing, so i make speeddraws on youtube, and not on the computer as everyone else, everyone can do that, i do it oldfashioned with papaer and pencils
