      AVOID contacting/dating the following kinds of people on dating apps for mental and financial well-being:
      1) Supermodel like women with a lot of glamourous photographs and very little concise written information about them - very likely fake profiles
      2) Women with ambiguous educational and career details (will usually mention something vague like Real Estate or Finance).
      They are out to sell you real estate, time share, crypto or some other investment pitch, and most likely will swindle you.
      3) Women who mention stuff like they want to date men in therapy or seeking therapy - very likely there to sell you some expensive self-help program/therapy or sign you up for a cult that uses beautiful women to recruit, and for which these women receive commissions. There was a similar cult from a few years ago starting with "N" - look it up.
      4) Women who provide very little unique/specific information and have a lot of glamourous photos featuring exotic locales and yachts - most likely escorts/prossies whose lifestyles are being financed by rich sugadaddies
      5) Women passing through airports or just passing through your city for a short period - see 4)
      6) Women with social media addiction, especially to TikTok and Instagram

      @zepher664 Před 24 dny +19

      That's not how it works, victims don't know they are giving them their money in the first place.
      It's made to look like like a crypto market, where the victim "invests" a small amount of money into a crypto currency, or another type of investment, so it looks like a brokerage account that one would open an account with.
      Once the victim sees quick and significant gains in the value of their account consistently, they will be tempted to put increasingly more of their available cash into this rapidly growing "investment" while they have the opportunity.
      Once that large investment is made, the scammers have all the victims' money, and that account and those investments were fake all along.
      That's why they call it the "pig butchering scam."
      They "fatten" their victim up before the slaughter.

    Soooo, if I’m understanding this correctly, people are having online relationships with these scammers, never meeting them in person, and then giving them money after some amount of time and trust building? How is the fact that they’ve never met this person in person not a huge red flag?!

    • @zepher664
      @zepher664 Před 24 dny

      No, they are not giving them money.
      They are tricked into opening a fake investing account, that looks real, and repeatedly investing over a period of time. The scammers make it look like the accounts value is growing very quickly, and the victim can even withdraw more money than they initially put in.
      Of course, they are hinted towards doing this by a person they believe they are trying to have a relationship with.
      It is only after they commit and put in substantial sums of money into the account that the scammers pull the rug out from under them and take all the money and vanish.

They say "hey I'm doing great for myself and you said you hate how little interest you make from you're savings account, I invest on this platform if you wanted to you can to and make great money", you're tempted not to see it as a scam because the person telling you about it doesn't get handed the money (their fake legitimate looking website does), you know them from something unrelated (dating site), and they supposedly love you (social engineering).

    Unfortunately, not all of us were financially literate early. I was 35 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps. I went from $176,000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but I'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $400,000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling!

      Don’t be confuse buying the dip in a bear market, with guaranteed future returns. Just because that company is down 60%+ from ATH does NOT make it a sound long-term investment. Make sure you’re investing in great companies. kudos to Sonia

    I'm sure the scammer had 6'5", blue eyes, works in finance and had a trust fund...

    This is a very misleading story. The same type of scam happens a lot without cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is just another way for the scammers to steal money. In fact more of these love scams have been done without crypto than with crypto

      I agree 100%. People just have to be careful. It's not crypto.

      I agree with you except for the misleading part. The big picture point it is trying to make is that it is hard to recoup crypto funds than let’s say normal banking transfers (much easier to track the paper/electronic trail. They use crypto because it is easier to hide their tracks. It’s not that crypto is bad. It’s just it is a different system /tool they are using to hide their crimes. People do the same with quick deed real estate scams.

      Where are your numbers/data coming from? Where did you find the information saying crypto *isn't* the most common form of transferring the funds?

      @kennymiles1481 a pig butchering scam is the combination of a romance scam with investment fraud. Yes, there are other romance scams, but this one has become extremely popular in Asia, and is becoming a bigger issue here on this side of the planet.
