I think Mat's issue with this game is that there is SO much that you have to pay attention to, (every single detail on their paperwork, every facial feature and where they live, who they live with, if they're on the list, if they killed any kids while wearing a yellow bunny suit recently and so on) that eventually you slip up on one or two details because you're going through each one quickly in order to stay somewhat sane, that you misread or don't notice something small

When I played this game for the first time, I was super paranoid about letting the wrong person in, I accidentally killed 2 neighbors. The first was one of the twins since I didn't realize it was a twin. The second I'm pretty sure was because they weren't on the list and didn't provide any excuse as to why they weren't. I did survive though.
50:14 A teacher let me make a quiz once. Every T/F was True, every multiple choice was C. The teacher wasn't happy, but a lot of kids were psychologically tilted enough to get a few wrong anyway.

For those you don’t know the 42 reference: it comes from the book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. One of the stories in it is about an ancient species creating the most intelligent computer ever. It could answer every question given to it including theoretical mathematics and philosophical questions, there is no question this computer couldn’t answer. So, one of its creators asks it what the meaning of life is. The computer thinks about it for awhile, a couple dozen years i believe, then it responds with: 42. The scientists have no idea how it came to this number and yhe computer died years before the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was written.

Edit: Thank you to those in the replies adding to and correcting what I said, I had completely forgotten about the mice, the second computer and I thought I misremembered it being on Earth. ”meaning of life“ was me just shortening the question about the universe so thank you again for really delving into that so everyone, myself included.
Bonus: there was a movie made based on the book, I don’t remember how much of this story made it into the movie. This was more of a world building story so they might’ve cut it in the film

No, it was more complicated.
The computer was asked for, and I quote, "the answer to the ultimate question of life, universe and everything", and the answer given was 42, but as you may or may not realize, the prompt is wrong, or at least very unhelpful. Because it's not the question per se, it's a question about the question, so the answer is useless, because you don't know what question is it answering. "How many years should a person live?", "How many purple people eater are there in the universe?", "How many tacos you should eat in your life to die fulfilled?", basically any question about a number could be that ultimate question, but without knowing the ultimate question itself, the answer is useless.
If you think of the FNAF as an analogy, imagine asking the supercomputer "What's the answer to the ultimate question of FNAF lore?", you get an answer "Mike Afton", but what does it mean? What was the ultimate question? "Who do you play as?", "What's in the box?", "Who really is Gregory?" etc etc, as long as the answer can be a person, it could be the ultimate question, but you don't know for sure.
Did you just forget to mention that the "ancient species" was mice. It sounds so mysterious when you say that. LOL.

On the other hand, I wish our world also ran on videogame logic where the people trying to trick you always make at least one mistake and you have infinite time to notice
Hello! Here's some tips that I'd personally give.
- If they're on the list, then at least to me, you shouldn't call as they will typically be out unless you already let them in.
- Look CLOSELY to all the details, and make sure nothing's wrong.
- If they're NOT on the list, that's when you call. If they arent on the list, then the doppelganger could be literally a perfect replicate, and the only way to know is the factor that the original person is at home.
- Make sure the ID and the Entry request have a "D.D.D stamp". If they don't then its an automatic Doppelganger.
- Check the dates on the ID, if they're before Feb 10 1955, then its expired and an automatic Doppelganger.
Hopefully you play this again because there is many more different doppelgangers that appear. Bye Matpat!!
Another helpful tip. The ID the doppelgänger gives you could have the doppelgänger’s photo so you have to compare the photo in the files to the person not compare person to ID. And if you let a doppleganger in, the phone trick doesn’t really work because the doppelgänger answers and says they are there.
i've had some where everything checked out, but then i called anyway and the real person was already inside.
@@Purrfect_WerecatYou're probably misremembering. The only way you have a perfect doppel with all their documents checking out is when the person is not on the list.
The game expects you to call if they're not on the list. You didn't call "anyway", you had to. When the person is not on the list, it means they're still home. But the game asks you to check because sometimes the person is saying the truth and actually had an emergency at work.
These are some good tips
The thing that probably got him a lot on his past play-through’s was likely the expiration date on the ID’s. He kept thinking the date was their birthdays

That would actually be kind of clever for someone like Afton to lie about their roommate being home to let a doppelgänger in for an experiment or something. Though they’d need to find some way to hint at that. Maybe have that character “accidentally” leave a note behind when you let them in about their experiments.

My personal best is 5 S ranks in a row, but There are a few tips that people struggle with.
- The Entry List is for people coming in, call the apartment if they are not on the entry list. If they are on the Entry List they won't pick up if they havn't come in, but will pick up if they were let in (even if they were a doppel)
- From my personal experience, I've yet to seen their ID number being invalid. It's always either their name, the date, or the logo.
- Always interrogate for not being on the list, they can admit it so you can easily destroy them.
Also Unlikely is a pretty neat strategy card/dice game.
I've seen the IF have an extra number so it's not invalid to look at the numbers
I've had a game where one of the Peachman residents had the ID number of the other Peachman.
I haven't seen any number be only a single digit out or anything like that though
I've once seen an ID number that was short by one number, so it's possible but seems to be rare

Game recommendation: Security Booth by Kyle Horwood. You play as a security guard working in a security booth outside of a company lab called Nova Nexus. Throughout the night you must decide who you will and won’t let in. However, there is something that I can only describe as extra-terrestrial or ethereal going on. There are 7 endings (and hidden notes) and no one has pieced together what the backstory is or what is going on in the company. I thought it might be a fun game to play on GTLive!
Edit: I forgot to mention that you also collect videotapes when you get an ending, which could be crucial when it comes to filling in the lore.

These people are so confident. If I was proving my identity to get back into my apartment and not get cleaned up in a violent manner, any question the entry person asked would make me so anxious. I'd forget to give my ID and they'd ask about it and I would be sweating bullets, pulling every single thing out of my pockets, and then just hand them every card-sized object I had on me just to make sure. They'd know they had a dopple if I didn't look nervous

20 minutes in and I really like Dan. Really appreciate the context of how instrumental he's been for you and it's awesome to meet a nice and genuine person. Some people I imagine would seek heavily their "moment" on the couch but I can tell very well that Dan is sincere. Here’s a tip: if someone is on the list and you haven’t let them in, they won’t be at home, so they won’t awnser the phone. (This means it’s useless calling the apartment if they’re on the list) oh and another tip: the id and entry request can be adjusted by the doppelgänger to look like they do, so check the picture in the files and not the id/entry request
So if you’re interested to know, 42 is the Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question, that question being “The Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything” according to the supercomputer Deep Thought in the book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. When asked why that was the answer, the computer said something like “The Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything is an ill-defined question, so I gave an ill-defined answer in response.”
The number 42 has since become a popular cultural reference because of this. The Hitchhiker’s Guide is also an amazing book and I highly recommend reading it if and when you can.

In the book, it is the ANSWER to the greatest QUESTION in life, the universe, and everything. The supercomputer which calculates this answer then points out something to the effect of "This is pretty useless, because you don't even know what the question was. But the answer is 42."

I loveee the collab with Dune. It makes so much sense. I can tell you might not have had as much time with the design to really incorporate things in the movie or have the secret hidden cool bits that you usually have, but would love some other future lines with the franchise!

I hope MatPat sees this: MatPat has the best personalities ever, he is so funny and smart, he dresses well (Duh, he made style theory) and he is an inspiration and I don't think that he is told that enough, I will miss MatPat's videos but the entire team is filled with smart, funny and amazing people, I hope at least someone from the team reads this so they can tell Matthew that, they really really deserve to be appreciated like that.

I remember that Japan vid. I have never had my mind blown so hard by something. I had never seen a 360 vid before and I remember commenting about my shock, and someone - maybe it was MatPat? But probably not, I don't remember. Someone responded basically with laughter - which was perfectly fine, sort of like when you're laughing because someone else is really excited, y'know, but I literally had no idea how any of that worked. Didn't even know that was possible for a CZcams video at all. Fascinating to know how you actually put it together!
