As Great Britain’s forces were stretched thin during World War II, Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (SOE) began to enlist women as spies. Their daunting mission: conduct sabotage and build a resistance. Spymistress Vera Atkins, later the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond franchise, was the chief recruiter for this secret army. Atkins selected two unusual candidates: Virginia Hall, an American journalist from Baltimore hampered by a wooden leg, and Noor Inayat Khan, a wireless officer of Indian descent and an avowed pacifist. Together, they worked to undermine the Nazi regime in France. The courage, sacrifices and grit of these three women helped quell the Nazi occupation - and ultimately turned the tide of the war.

Brilliant brilliant movie!!! Thank God for Sarah Megan Thomas and her vision and determination for getting this true historical movie to film. Ive read two books on Vera Atkins. True heroine, as were Virginia Hall, Vera, and Noor Inayat Khan., brilliantly played by Radhika. Hope it wins more awards., and that Stana Katic (Castle/ Absentia) also receives more accolades/awards, which she deserves. She has proven again with this film role, how versatile she is. Sarah Megan Thomas wrote the screenplay as well as stars as Virginia Hall.

A great movie. The bravery of these spys was amazing. A great true story of resistance and resiliance. I recommend anyone to watch.
The film is very well designed to perfection.
And a great start for the actress from India. The last 20 minutes of the movie is far too upsetting and required the moment to be paused.

Noor Inayat Khan was buried in history just like she was buried in this trailer. She had a lot more personality than what this trailer makes her look.

Have just seen the movie. It was interesting and fairly well made but certainly nothing out of the ordinary.
The overall acting was quite understated and as for Radhika Apte, who, from the many comments below seemed to indicate she was India's equivalent of Cate Blanchett or whoever, she most certainly showed nothing in this movie to justify such a comparison. Maybe the part wasn't right for her. For those thinking that this is a very good movie it is not because of script or production values. It is merely an interesting movie which quite rightly highlights the ingenuity and bravery of women spies.
Yes. It's good the story is being told and that 'Nora Baker'/Madeleine is included; these extraordinary people deserve such tributes, and our actors could do with the exposure. They have a lot to live up to; whether this film will stand alongside the films ODETTE or CHNwP , Anna Neagle or Virginia McKenna, remains to be seen.

Waiting to see what the movie holds but the first scene features American accents which seem wholly out of place without any explanation, and the second scene's narration from the radio "In other news, I'm going to rattle off.a list of occupied countries and Hitler is poised to cross the English Channel." What the hell was the main story if that's the other news? Who wrote the script?
@5 Bags of Popcorn Yes, it's later explained. I still found it odd at the start of the film. I never ended up finishing this movie. Just one opinion, but I wasn't impressed by the script or the acting, and lost interest, even though the subject matter and concept I find very interesting.
@5 Bags of Popcorn I realized that would probably be the case, but with no setup before hand it was a bit odd. The bigger issues were (personal opinions of course) mediocre acting and a mediocre script. I tried - it's a great premise - but got bored and couldn't stick with it.
I think the list of occupied countries you mention were included here to let us know just how powerful and rapid was the German advance. I agree with you somewhat but passed it off as 'dramatic licence'!

"A Call to Snooze". How do you take one of the most terrifying global events and get a soap.opera style TV show?
A "Gender Balanced" production...it ticks all the "Politically Correct" boxes: Bad hetero caucasians, POC heroes, empowered women...the only thing missing was a lesbo-non-binary scene! If you choose to ignore that, is a fair movie.
This movie takes liberties with far too many actual events. It underplays the women's bravery tenacity and intelligence. Read "A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II" by Sonia Purnell, a biography of Virginia Hall. "In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." " A great spy novel that happens to be true.

AWERAGE ... I'm not really sure, where all these "WOW reviews" come from! The movie it self is pretty average. No action at all, no thrill ... and I'm really sorry, but I haven't seen that much heroism either.

Stana Katic's accent is really quite horrid. Why not just hire on a British actress ?
For one thing, Atkins wasn't actually British by birth - she was born in Romania and travelled extensively. So, Katic is actually doing an accent of a Romanian extensively exposed to English. You'd need to compare her to Atkins' own accent... but I don't think Atkins talked much about her work after the war, despite living until 2000.

@@silenthunterukVera was my grandfather’s cousin. She spoke very precisely with a cultured RP accent. What you might describe as a “BBC accent”. She was born Vera May Rosenberg but changed to “Atkins” which was her mother’s maiden name.
