      it's crazy how many youtubers on here review this product under the guise that they're professional artists, or at the very least hobbyists with a drive, and the art ends up being very mediocre
      i want someone who uses this professionally, either as a job, or draws enough to have some sort of income or skills that could bring in income. someone who practically uses this on a daily basis. and there's so much crap on youtube where the people reviewing it can't even draw a proper human head proportionally and/or shaded. it's frustrating! so this review is a GODSEND!

      I can't get over soooo many "artists" talking down on apple because of the trendy apple hate. The apple pencil is (arguably, SADLY) the best. The screen has Zero lag. The pen has zero lag even on a very old model like i am using. Ipad Air 2019. A small and worse tablet than the pro.
      "The S-Pen is better and samsung is better". I wish those people were right but i am glad i can have a portable drawing tablet anywhere with me.

    the story telling, the ability to engage without a cut to b-roll every 3 seconds and the articulation of what you want to say, in my opinion this is peak content. It has been so long since I have spent 17 minutes on a youtube video without wanting to click away or go down to comments/ search for the next video AND finish watching it without feeling any regret or guilt, actually feeling satisfaction even. However , Brad is reviewing tech mainly for drawing rather than painting . A very Very big difference between the two.
      Drawing doesn't require the same features as painting does.
      You can draw something awesome with a lot more tablets and screens than you would paint with. When you are painting images with a lot of textures and transparencies, you rely much more on features such as pressure sensitivity, tilt and hover. So on this topic, @AdamDuffArt nailed that aspect.

    Definitely a big step for artists! It happens that art sometimes makes me feel trapped sitting on the chair in my room for too long so it sounds like promising solution to that. The room looks very cozy and magical and the animations present the information in really good way.

      @@luistigerfoxI left the Android ecosystem back in the iPhone 6S days right after Apple took the FBI to court to fight breaking their encryption, so it’s been a while since I’ve used Android. What I remember from back then, though, is that Androids were great as long as you stuck with what they did out of the box, but as soon as you started dipping your toes into all the customizability that was supposed to be a selling point for Android, that reliability and smoothness quickly went right out the window. Install the wrong app and suddenly your battery doesn’t last, or you have to do a hard reboot to be able to answer or make a phone call, or it just quit being smooth and very responsive until you did a device reset and started over from scratch (and back then, you’d also have to do the infamous “battery pulls” because even a hard reboot wouldn’t work sometimes). I’m guessing at least some of those things have been ironed out these days? I’ve never had anything like that happen with any of my Apple devices, ever, at any time, no matter what I’ve done on them (with the caveat that I don’t jailbreak).
      So at that time, the usability and reliability weren’t the same between the two ecosystems. So I guess what I’m wondering from someone who’s still in the Android world and who actually does use the devices for art and drawing and painting is - are you someone who actually installs more than a couple apps and actually uses the device for more than one or two specific things? And if you are, have they really finally gotten rid of all those issues in the Android world on those higher tier devices? Because in the Note 2 days, they definitely hadn’t and the difference was night and day if you used the device for general purpose, variety of uses.

I also adopted all the iPad Pros hoping they would be my bridge to being able to do more than just drawing on a digital medium. I have tried all the apps but mostly used Procreate. It never took me fully over the hump of the hand’s natural ability to apply pressure and the mind’s training to get the results I wanted digitally. I too traded in my last iPad Pro and upgraded to the M2 (even though I didn’t need more power, I needed the iPad to respond to my hands (aka the Pencil, my “brush). Then I tried it with Procreate and was underwhelmed. A few days ago I saw your CZcams post and today I watched it. OMG. You described so succinctly what I have been experiencing but couldn’t explain it. My goal for the new year (set about a week ago) is Be Creative. More Creative. Yeah I am a creative and, I AM creative but I fail to BE creative as much as I should. Life gets in the way and I don’t have patience to teach a program or application what I need to make art. I can just do it on paper, or canvases, lunch box tops, or any other object that will accept paint or inks. It was easier to just fall back on the old material standbys. But you are right. Hover and using it on Art Studio Pro has finally ticked most of the boxes for making art I love, not just the 2D digital so many have adopted. It has become satisfying and I can take it everywhere (a huge plus). Thank you for posting your honest and to the point review. My new year will now not only Be Creative, I will finally get over roadblock and grow my talent to include digital art. (At lease that is the plan. Thank you. And Have a wonderful 2023.

    I always wondered how come the S-Pen of Samsung Note phones, which I have used for a few years to make art on, had the exact same feature for many years before and the iPad Pro which is heavily marketed towards professional artists didn't! The M2 iPad Pro may not be "pro" enough for video editors or developers, but it damn well is a "pro" device for artists. It's simple to use (iPadOS), insanely portable, has an incredible 120Hz display, lasts long on battery and the Apple Pencil does amazing things on digital canvases especially with the Hover. What more do we artists need!?

    My mans did an in depth analysis just to argue one feature! But in all seriousness, as an iPad user, I completely agree that the lack of pencil hover was holding the iPad's potential down. I am hoping to get one 2022 iPad myself now, lol. Also, I appreciate that real professionals, as yourself, talk about these features, to demand better competition and thus better tools for artists. Cheers man.

    You broke this down amazingly for artists who know what's up and how technology has advanced. Thank you so much, Sir! I just invested in an iPad Air 5 with the M1 chip as my first tablet. I hope I love it enough and I have a quick return on investment cause I would love to experience the 12.9'' M2 one. Technology wise I feel we're so blessed. Not even 10 years prior we were suffering as you illustrated, and now we have a thing that barely weighs anything and we can do amazing art with it, anywhere, any time.

    • @Kentarius
      @Kentarius Před rokem

      How is procreate on the air 5? Do you think it's enough storage. I'm thinking about going with the air 5 or pro 11

    • @FutileGrief
      @FutileGrief Před rokem +1

      @@Kentarius it's amazing! I'm quite used to 60hz displays so I don't notice any lag at all (some brushes are made to be laggy and I don't like to choose those).
      The size is enough for what I want to do which are color studies, concept sketching and some video editing for Socials. I also have a cloud account and am insane about organizing, so this won't be a device for storing. However 128 GB wasn't going to be enough. Apps are getting bigger every day, and I want this to last at least 5 years. If you think you can do well with 128 GB definitely go for the pro, cause the difference with the Air 5 I got is like 50-80 bucks. If you think you want 256GB, consider the Air cause it is a couple of hundreds of dollars less than the pro, and the differences are honestly minimal to me.

    • @FutileGrief
      @FutileGrief Před rokem +1

      @@RandomlyScrolling hi! It depends on your budget really. If you can afford it, go for the iPad Pro. If you are tight on budget, the iPad Air 5 is just as powerful than the Pro M1. They cut corners on things you won't need as a beginner artist, like the refresh rate or the cameras. Then, you need to consider how much storage you need. I don't really recommend getting a 64GB version of anything. Developers are making apps very heavy, and you want to squeeze the value of your iPad as much as possible. If you don't need a lot of storage, which if you're painting I don't think you will, go for an iPad Pro 128 GB. If you reckon you'll be editing video or rendering 3D, a minimum of 256GB would be good. I got the Air 5 with the M1 chip at 256GB precisely for this reason, because I needed more storage. If I were to just paint or sketched or even edit photographs, I would have gone with the Pro M1, because it's only 50 bucks more expensive. But as I needed storage and power, I went for the Air 5.

The reason i went with the iPad Pro and not an MacBook Air , is not only for my heavy CZcams viewing, but because i thought about getting back into photography and maybe a little drawing since i haven’t drawn since i was a kid. And the thought of just breaking it out when i had the urge but not needing a paper tablet wherever i go is amazing. Never been into painting but maybe one day.

    Good to see someone with a decent sized audience that has actually said this. I had the Wacom Cintiq Hybrid, that ran Android for mobile use, and was also a Cintiq type monitor when connected to a computer. It was ok, but when the iPad pro came out I was amazed by what Apple had accomplished for the money. I sold the Cintiq Hybrid and didn't look back.
    I currently have a 2020 11" iPad pro and am actually considering investing in the M2 12.9" model for the additional power and screen real estate.

    The hover function is the only thing I missed as a semi-professional artist. I was so excited when it came to iPad Pro.
    I hope Apple will add this function in iPad Air sometime in the future, since the Pro version is too expencive for me and I don't need the elaborate camera system.
    It won't replace my desktop setup for drawing entirely. Because of projects I make for clients are quite huge, require a lot of RAM and smart objects feature. But I would still be able to draw separate objects on iPad. Then combine them into the final piece later on a desktop computer.
    By the way for lineart ArtStudio Pro has a great line stabilizing algorithm it is similar to ClipStudio's one or the one LazyNezumi has.

    You read my thoughts exactly with iPad. The reason I absolutely love the iPad is because there is delay from me having an idea and drawing it. People will easily shrug off things like speed, but to me that's crucial for any creative process (especially if you're ADHD). I don't miss the process of waking my computer, plugging in my wacom tablet, restarting due to driver/display issues, then finally launching photoshop. I think the best thing about it too is they're insanely good entry-level artist tablets, even the cheapest budget ipad's can easily use procreate, while also being priced a little above the regular Intuos Pro tablets.
    Assuming that you're right-handed, another insight people ignore with the iPad is how ambidextrous it is for left-handed artists like myself. The only setting I've ever had to change on my iPad was flipping the brush sliders to the other side on Procreate. When I was doing graphic art on my PC, I'd always have to double-check the wacom driver hand settings, as well as setting up macro commands for all the apps I use (otherwise I'd be crossing my arms for keyboard shortcuts).
