[ROG PHONE 5 ULTIMATE REVIEW]
Just like it says on the exquisitely crafted box, the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate from ASUS is indeed the “ultimate” gaming smartphone of 2021. And not just by default, after the exit of Razer from the gaming phone space and the paucity of gaming-centric competitors in the North American market. No, the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is the king of gaming phones because of a potent combination of perks, polish … and panache. It’s a gaming phone that even filthy casuals like MrMobile can love - and love it, I do.

I like the bezels' design. They're not too thick, they're symmetrical and there's no notch nor hole. Wish there were more phones like this
Sony
Also: front fireing speakers
And they serve a purpose like they do on the iPad.
Me, too those bezels look 100% better than any notch or punch hole.
the rog/s8/s9 looks are the best.
Bringing back Headphone jack? Now that's courage. 👏
Thank you Asus
But they drop the microsd -_-.
@@soragranda I think they've never had microSD in the ROG series
@@soragranda The insides must be very cramped for the micro sd slot to fit especially the 6000 mah battery, trigger sensors, headphone jack rear display and the second usb c port.
@@mouth7137 Dude, they put a damn back panel but not a micro sd slot?, comeback with a better excuse.
Idk, I think the bezels are fine especially if it means that I don’t have to deal with a notch or pinhole camera.
And with bezels you can have front facing speakers. :)
For me this is the perfect bezel size. Atleast you can grab the phone without accidental touches while watching videos.
Agree.. i hate punch hole
its much better this way
Ikr! Those amazing speakers have to go somewhere. And no notch or punch hole. And the bezels are quite frankly still tiny.
"Game Genie"
Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time
Exactly what I was about to comment
Hope they didn't buy the trademark.
maybe this can enter the genera of "when phone's were fun" ..
this one surely looks like a one good fun phone
i thought thats what this was when i licked the video haha
Edit: comment is better with typo
@@dude5029 licked the video
When you play game in landscape mode you need a little side bezel to not keep touching the screen by accident. Also they put front firing speaker in that tiny space, which I prefer, and is really loud with deep bass, trust me you will love it
I never thought I'd be in a world where I saw Mr. Mobile playing Genshin Impact.
The 2020's truly are a new decade.
Same, what AR he's on? 😂
Its the most beautiful game I've played
You know that he is not actually playing the game when he is using Amber
Don't think he's playing the game regularly, but it's a good game for benchmarking a phone, not just its soc but also its cooling, this game is known to roast phones
@@ricardohnn yeah I noticed that too. Just thought it'd be a funny comment to leave.
the back design actually looks nice i just wish the screen was square
That's part of the nifty design.
Yeah, I wished it didnt have that rounded corner screen and maybe even the actual body. Would be nicer to have sharper design that fits into ROG aesthetics.
@@kornkernel2232 i wish something like the razer phone but with thinner bezels it's a shame they killed that phone because it had a nice design it was just too huge when it came to sidebezels or top and bottom bezels
I like how MrMobile appreciates unique, interesting designs. This phone looks awesome!
Though I could do without the blue accents... Maybe I'll spray paint it red.😉
I agree 100%. People bitchin' about bezels can buy phones without headphone jack(s), 6000mAh battery, kick ass speakers, etc.
These people have numerous options, and shouldn't attack this phone for being unique. Diverse Android phones are a good thing, and this diversity is what makes Android so great!
Thank you for looking at this phone from this POV @Mr. Mobile.
Most cash ?? Sell it on ebay
@@ravikiranreddygudipally6890 Yeah man. This phone is definitely not for me, heck I don't even play game on phone but this is easily the best review of this phone I've watched so far. Unlike other reviewers being skeptical and moans about the point of "gaming phone", he actually appreciate all the (albeit) little stuffs that specifically tailored for its target audience in mind, mobile phone gamer. Bravo Mr Mobile :D
Finally someone using Genshin for tests instead of Among Us and other not-so-demanding games.
Dave2d did this too
Whereas Indians use PUBG Mobile as the game for testing a phone capabilities 🙄
@@rrektless that should be the rule, Genshin impact and PUBG mobile both on ultra
Probably the most glowing review you've ever given. Must be a really special phone.
Yes.. He definitely was way more excited and happy with the device.. Loved the review!!
I think his most glowing has to be the Galaxy Note 7.
It's a good phone with excellent specs, fantastic speakers, a lovely display, and it runs well in general. There's a lot to like. The only thing it doesn't trounce everyone else on is camera tech. It has good sensors, but you're not likely to one-up Google or Samsung with just good sensors alone, and Asus just doesn't have the deep investment into image processing that those companies do.
You know that a phone is good when Mr. Mobile is this happy when using it.
I just the love this phones bezel (no hideous notch, punch hole, etc). Thank you asus for putting 3.5mm Jack and good quality sterio speakers. | I'll be waiting for camera review.
You forgot to mention that it has a ESS QUAD DAC.
A FUCKING ESS QUAD DAC!! 🤯🤯🤯
@@PSYCHOV3N0MIndeed. Got to know about that later.
The camera is good but not great, on par with most upper midrangers
2:40 "atmospheric tunes when installing older versions of Windows" ah, the memories! :) Thanks, Mr. Mobile! :)
An OLED screen on the back? Cmon, give the other competitors a chance…
A pointless screen

Nice review MM. Of the 3 reviews I've seen till this point, yours was the first that detailed the software also. I found the virtual masks impressive. I'd like to have seen your reviw of the Insta360 Go 2. Seems like a bunch of people came out with that yesterday, but I'd like to see your thoughts. GOOD REVIEW!
Like always, a great review from one of the best tech reviewers. Bravo to you too, Mr. Mobile!
They should include a option to control a cursor with a joystick for editing documents to allow drag and drop functions and advanced input.
Also some stylus support in the next version and this could be extremely good.
Except those aren’t features the target audience of this phone cares about. I agree those would be cool additions, but they wouldn’t make much sense to put the time into.
Again! You hit the FEEL of a product in your review! Another well done piece!!
Love your format of videos! Keep it up, and gl
Just watched dave2d’s Video watching yours now.
Waiting for MKBHD’s video. No joke man a new flagship just gives me 40mins of entertainment
The last time i heard about this it was the ROG 2 when did the 3 and 4 came out😭😭
The 3 is the best phone if you seek a 2 day battery phone with high (highest) performance on 2020. And they skipped the 4 because 4 is an unlucky number in chinese culture
There was 3
I think Chinese don't like number 4
@@jimmylives its not only for china but mostly in asia many countries have that .
P.s- it's a Taiwanese brand
@@saikiran3238 And Taiwanese are Chinese genius
Literally Republic of China
yeah it’s akin to 13 here. like ppl are wondering if apple will skip 13 on the iphone. (did they change the name of the iphone 4 in asia?)
Such nice narration! Probably the best I've come across among all tech review channel👌👌👍👍
This video is so good, I hit the like button right after the intro!
Honestly I love it, and I say that as someone who normally is indifferent about gaming phones. It's the fact that Asus seems committed to the mobile gaming sphere and releasing accessories to match, but it just looks amazing, even as a gaming phone. They leaned so hard into the edgy aesthetic that it loops back into looking awesome, like something out of Blade Runner. And that is a genuine achievement.
Mobile gaming makes 50% of the entire gaming marked, its a smart movee from asus to try to keep a foothold in this are with dedicated phones
I share the same feeling with the design! It's very unique. If anything though they've toned down the hyper-aggressiveness a little this generation. If you look at the ROG Phone 1 or 2, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about lol
Got a notif for this and mrwhosetheboss' video at the exact same time. Guess which one I went for.
dude me too😅😅
so if mkbhd uploaded too what will u choose?

It reminds of the "Tron: Legacy"!
ASUS is doing some serious good job out there! Just when phones were getting boring - and we were looking to foldables - ROG changed the game ;)
Is mobile gaming the future?

Great review Mr Mobile, glad to hear positive feedback. Glad to see they brought back the 3.5mm jack too.
And remember, MrMobile works for us, not the manufacturer.
Impressive phone with such impressive narration. Forget iPhones, galaxies, this gaming phone suits your style and personality.

Nice Review... I like see that machine in a gaming test

The fact that they sent it a full 9 days before the embargo lifted, rather than 4 or 5 days, shows you how confident ASUS was about this phone. This review is my absolute favorite. The details, the set up process, loved that you included this info.

Does Genshin impact have controller support on Android?
no news from mihoyo right now. But, if you purchase asus rog 5, u can setup buttons with rog kunai. because it's an embedded apps from rog and possibly will not be banned from mihoyo, unlike third party apps (octopus etc.)

Best phone ever , as former ROG II owner cant wait for the ROG 5 Ultimate to come out ^^
Great review, Michael! Much appreciated! 🙏❤️✨
I would love a phone like this if there were more "Nintendo Switch" games on mobile. Not cash grabs that throw ads or microtransactions in your face. PUBG / COD Mobile and Genshin Impact are a big example of that.
@Cylant Justice But the problem is that you can't get any of those modern QOL features from newer titles like on Nintendo Switch. Especially indie titles.
I guess some phones are still fun???
I liked all ur reviews. Ur reviews are always fair.
6:25 I love Junkball Transmission! Looks like his style.

Seeing Michael play Genshin in the background is something I never thought I'd see.
As always, a thorough and thoroughly entertaining review. I love your work MrMobile. I hope one day to be as good a reviewer as you. Cheers
best review of this phone out there, bravo!
Lol Genshin Impact lags even from a high-end phone 😂😂
Still runs better than on the ps4
A lot of games aren't optimized perfectly for the devices. Optimization needs time and the customers aren't interested in optimization as long the game can run. Probably, customers think that games need a lot of resources to be awesome and just their consoles or PC aren't powerful enough to handle this "Wow!" but this isn't true. TLoZ Breath of the Wild can kill PS 5 and Xbox Series X but it can run on a Nintendo Switch, just independent of the optimization of the game for the consoles. Even a Super Mario Galaxy can run on a Wii but running a physic engine which could kill every gaming console if the game's developers weren't among the geniuses of the gaming industry and had spent years trying out how to break down the elaborate physics logic in such a way that even the Wii can play the game constantly in 60 FPS, but the player hardly notices how much simplified the physics engine is. Such an immersive engine is unique and also the biggest game developers don't try to make a game like Mario Galaxy again because it's needed too much time to create so perfectly optimized physic engines.
Also, the power of a smartphone is independent of the software. A bad software optimization can overhead or underclock the chip. In both cases, the chip cannot run games with maximum performance. Samsung had to learn this the hard way. At the beginning of Xiaomi's rising, their smartphones use the same chip as Samsung in the US and China, but Xiaomi's phones run so much better than the phones of the other manufacturers, only because of the better software optimization and know, the chip manufacturers use AI to make their chips more powerful.
@@andreas4010 ps4 pro priced at $399, while this rog ultimate cost almost $1500 , what a great comparison 🙄
I don't see where the game lagged. If you're talking about the fact that it was running at 30fps, then that's because Michael didn't disable the in-game frame limiter. So mentioning that he used the display at 144hz was useless because he most likely had the fps limiters set to the lowest (30fps)
This is the first phone I've been wowed by in a couple years. Maybe phones will become fun again?
Good review 🤘🏻
