Would have to take issue with the 1978 favourites pick. Brazil went on a tour of Europe in March I think it was and played England live on BBC on a Wednesday night (1-1 draw )and recall it being said that they were favourites for the WC having beaten West Germany in Munich 2-1 just a week previous. In fact can recall an ITN news sports report of the film of the goals saying “surely a result like this means that West Germany’s grip on this trophy is fading”(it’s amazing the things that stick in the mind when more important things are forgotten!). The sense watching that tournament as it started was def that Brazil were the team to beat with Holland, Italy and W Germany after; Argentina surprisingly lower…

98 cannot count because not just ronaldo was bad that day, some players also suffer just by seeing him like that.
2002 Ronaldo came with a broken knee, europe barely knew Ronaldinho. Rivaldo was supose to have a surgery but denied to play the world cup, we lost Emerson that was on the main team and Brasilians wanted Romario added to that list. I think that winning this year was not a miracle but the most against all odds team we ever had.
2014 Brasil cannot be favorite if the team didnt played the qualies, the qualification to the world cup is the best way for the trainer to put a team together, 2014 we didnt had that, as you sayd a subpar team.
2018 the Brasilian team was not good, my personal opnion, I was wrong before, like in 2002, but this time I was right.
