Vivian Leigh is one of the most beautiful actresses of all time. Her lovely face doesn't need make up to show her beauty. It's just genuine classic beauty.
She wanted so badly to be known for her acting ability more than her beauty. I think she proved it well enough with 2 Best Actress oscars. There is only one Vivien Leigh and she was breathtaking in her performance and beauty.
The way she accepts her award, with such grace, without any sign of selfinesh..her dress, so simple..HOW different of some others who makes a show of themselves accepting the same award!!, GREAT VIVIEN!!
You don't ever see speeches that classy anymore, not in acceptance speeches, and definately not in day-to-day conversations. Beautiful, talented, and graceful...
I first saw Vivien Leigh in Waterloo Bridge when about ten years old.Forty years later I am still mesmerised by those eyes.I know it's superficial but for me she is the most stunning actress ever.
gone with the wind has been a favorite since i was five years old. even then i knew i wanted to grow up as beautiful and charming as vivien. Too bad neither of those things are found in very many places.
What an actress and what a role! The film's length was just short of 4 hours, and she appeared in most of the scenes, which were shot out of sequence. This is arguably the greatest Best Actress Oscar win ever (Meryl Streep in SOPHIE'S CHOICE must come a close second) for a role which is the pinnacle of screen roles, the "ne plus ultra" performance.
miss garson accepted the oscar for STREETCAR to vivien. miss leigh was in NY at the time, doing ANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA with olivier. 1952. but vivien hear the ceremony from the radio. carlos
Leigh's ensemble is my favorite Oscar dress, ever. It's so classy, elegant, modern and simplistic--she glows no matter what she wears. Plus, it's really rare to see floral prints at the Oscars today, not to mention a big fur coat.
Because the 3 most important qualities you mention, "elegance, class, and grace," are no longer celebrated - today we celebrate their opposites. An upside down world or a world gone mad!
He hadnothing but kind words about her years after hear death. He said she gave him his most loving and his most terrible memories. He was happy in his old age, but he never forgot about her. He was very happy with his life as every old man should.
i agree totally its shame that her manic depression got so bad she really was a type actress that doesnt come around to often: Talented, she just had everything i suppose her being beautiful just makes her even more lovely to watch.
For everyone saying it looks like she's 'acting' here--it's because she is (kinda); back then, the Oscars were broadcast "live" on radio only, so there was no need to have multiple cameras and close-ups. The only camera during the live ceremony was the one providing the static shot of the podium. After Leigh won her award, she went backstage and did her speech over again, in closeup, for newsreel footage to be shown in theaters. Notice how the sound quality improves during her closeup shot.
They don't make them like her anymore. I swear, people are always swooning over today's movies, but in comparison to the MGM pictures of those days, these movies can't hold a candle to them.
You have to hand it to Olivier for being so paitient with her. He knew about her illness before they were married. The fans like to blow things out of proportion. He did make sure she was being taken care of while he moved on. He soon fell ill afterwards.
How sad that another of the evening's winners, Hattie McDaniel, was not allowed to sit at the same table with the other "GWTW" nominees because of her race. Also, Hattie was not permitted to enter the ceremonies from the front of the building. Yet, George Clooney applauded Hattie's Oscar win as an example of Hollywood's liberalism?
Is there any footage where Viv accepts her second Oscar for "A streetcar named desire" ? I want to make a tribute to her.....but i can't it anywhere.....
@cherrylove316 Compare this to Natalie Portman's speech at the Golden Globes. I like Natalie, she is such a good actress and maybe she thought a joke was OK. But, again, compare this to it.
Does any1 know here you can get her oscar speech for Streetcar named desire????????? I'm not even sure she turned up or not bt if sum1 can tell me, that will be great, thanks
She said that speech as if she were acting. I couldn't tell if I was watching a movie, or it was real life. They were so dignified and classy back then. What happened?
Vivian Leigh is one of the most beautiful actresses of all time. Her lovely face doesn't need make up to show her beauty. It's just genuine classic beauty.
The way they spoke is the way they acted, it's so beautiful, love it. Love her.
She wanted so badly to be known for her acting ability more than her beauty.

Beautiful, talented, and graceful...
I love how timeless her dress is; someone could wear it at next year's Oscars and no one would notice it was 70 years old.
she's so beautifull..
It is always lovely to hear her speak in her English accent since I so rarely hear it.
How can anyone be THAT beautiful? She should be in museum or art gallery ,just perfection!!
so young, so graceful and absolutely beautiful...
She is beyond stunning...she should be in an art gallery!!
Such a delicate flower she was.
I first saw Vivien Leigh in Waterloo Bridge when about ten years old.Forty years later I am still mesmerised by those eyes.I know it's superficial but for me she is the most stunning actress ever.
Scarlett O'Hara is arguably the greatest female character in film history...and Vivian Leigh is charmingly divine.
She was SOOOOOOOO beautiful! And she is such a lady. oscar well deserved. i wish she was still alive though. R.I.P Vivian Leigh
She just oozes class from every pore doesn't she?
She is beautiful, witty, charismatic, talented, stylish and eloquent.
Good grief, she has got to be one of the most beautiful people who has ever existed on the planet.
her along with audrey hepburn...
the two most beautiful women of all time
She was so beautiful and had such a lovely speaking voice.
One thing that is missing (or at least in very, very short supply) today:
Class
Now that's poise, ladies and gentlemen.
Vivien Leigh is absolute CLASS, we have lost so much in America, Vivien Leigh was the best !!!!! Such a lady.
She is so graceful, i love the way she talks! breathtakingly beautiful and wonderfully talented! long live her memory!
so sincere and humble. we barely hear that anymore.
Such class and grace... very few could ever match her, certainly nobody today.
It looks like a scene from a film. God, everyone was so proper back then!
She has the most beautiful speaking voice. And that dress is so classy. That's something celebrities would wear today!
Oscar awards during those times is a lot simpler than what we have now.
Vivien Leigh is the one and only Scarlett O'Hara!
Viven Leigh is unbelievably classy and beautiful here. Great Actress
she is so beautiful.
I like the way she speaks - not her accent, just the correct way in which she uses the language.
Her Oscar dress is probably my absolute favorite, one that has stood the test of time amazingly well. Vivien looks gorgeous in it.
Arguably tyhe greatest Oscar-winning female performance of all time. The role of Scarlett is ne plus ultra.
A lovely and very fine actress in everything she did.
she embodies all that is class and beauty
she was the most beautiful woman!!
i love her!!
she was the best actress
she was so beautiful. one of the most beautiful actresses ever!
Wow, she was so beautiful. That was cute when she said that if she thanked everyone who worked on GWTW, her speech would be as long as the movie! LOL
vivian was a good speaker
such a beautiful, graceful and elegant woman.
the only Scarlett O'Hara, in my opinion.
A truly beautiful, elegant, gracious woman. One of a kind!!
In an interview, she once said, "I am Blanche Dubois"; troubled, beautiful soul.
she was just magical
Vivian played this part; I don't think there is anyone who could hold a candle to her performance as Scarlett O'hara..........
most beautiful actress ever
She is beyond beautiful!!
What a graceful acceptance speech. You don't see those much anymore. Beautiful lady; I have many biographies of her. Fascinating woman.

Great speaker. We live in a degrading society now where people don't know how to spell orange without a shortcut and a J.
i adore her
such a legendary actress
Leigh's ensemble is my favorite Oscar dress, ever. It's so classy, elegant, modern and simplistic--she glows no matter what she wears. Plus, it's really rare to see floral prints at the Oscars today, not to mention a big fur coat.
I think the two most beautiful women to grace the silver screen were Vivien Leigh and Audrey Hepburn. Both were enchanting actresses.
god i loooooooooooove her in gone with the wind. god she so deserved the oscar
She's a real lady.
I adore her! She is one of my role models. I mean, she's amazing
Because the 3 most important qualities you mention, "elegance, class, and grace," are no longer celebrated - today we celebrate their opposites. An upside down world or a world gone mad!
You don't realize just how tiny she is until you see her in contemporary clothes! Those big hoop skirts are deceiving. GOD, she was beautiful.
Es una gran actriz Vivian Leigh...
I LOVE U VIVIEN!!!!!!
WOW, too brazilians that love Vivian!
Eu também amo a Vivian.
I wanna be like her! ;D
Vivian Leigh is beastly awesome in that movie!!! and its odd seeing her not mean :)
vivien was on set for a movie when she was awarded her oscar for streetcar
A real lady.
she was very serious! :)
This clip reminds me of Anne Baxter in All About Eve.
He hadnothing but kind words about her years after hear death. He said she gave him his most loving and his most terrible memories. He was happy in his old age, but he never forgot about her. He was very happy with his life as every old man should.
LA MEJOR!!!!.......LA MEJOR SCARLETT : VIVIAN LEIGHT....DIOSAAAAAAA!!!!!
They spoke so...properly back then. Now, when actors/actresses get up there they never know what to say! Interesting...great video.
i agree totally its shame that her manic depression got so bad she really was a type actress that doesnt come around to often: Talented, she just had everything i suppose her being beautiful just makes her even more lovely to watch.
Wow good spaker she was RIP Vivian

She speaks so well and is truly a remarkable credit to her race.
Thank you for this piece of information!! =D

what a good speaker Vivian Leigh was so sad that she suffered from Mental illness and died form it
shes lovely
Is there any other footage of her and Olivier at this ceromony?
an amazing post 5* thanks
They don't make them like her anymore.
I swear, people are always swooning over today's movies, but in comparison to the MGM pictures of those days, these movies can't hold a candle to them.
Nicely said.
it looks very much like she is acting in her speech
@jkfromcincty
She appeared on stage in Great Britain mostly. Of course there are no lasting archives of these.
go vivi!!
You have to hand it to Olivier for being so paitient with her. He knew about her illness before they were married. The fans like to blow things out of proportion. He did make sure she was being taken care of while he moved on. He soon fell ill afterwards.
Vivien Leigh always looks hungry, just ravenous!
@jkfromcincty She made exactly 20 films :)

She said that speech as if she were acting.
I couldn't tell if I was watching a movie, or it was real life.
