Its grown on me. Never liked the stock photos etc, but saw a red one in person, had a good scope over it and looks 100x better in real life. Proportions are tiny, not much bigger than an 86 at all. If it had a factory 6sp, id be all over it.
I wish they had kept more body lines from the FT-1 concept, nonetheless the mk5 turned out great and is a curvy gorgeous car. Agreed on the manual transmission, hopefully Toyota listens and brings it in the next revision!
M240i is significantly better with the same B58 engine as the Supra, instead of the M135i’s N55. But your point remains - similar drivetrain for far cheaper!
My cars over the past 30 years: 91 300ZX lightly modded, 94 Supra turbo stock, 94 Supra single turbo 522 whp, '03 Z4 SMG, '06 Mustang GT lightly modded, '09 GT500 heavily modded, '13 Boss 302, '16 GT350 tuned for e85, and now....2020 Supra with high flow catted downpipe and Visconti e50 tune. On the way to a wedding my wife summed it up best when she said, "This car is smoother than your other cars." On e50 my car runs 11 flat at 128 mph and yet is so docile and comfortable, as far as my wife is concerned it is a small luxury car. I never thought I'd trade my Boss, but then came the GT350. The Shelby was all I could ask for, but then, after years of rumors, Toyota brings back the Supra. In stock form it is a wonderful daily driver, track ready sportscar that would leave me wanting more after three years. However, with 500 plus horsepower it is really a different animal. I don't know if you have e85 available in your neck of the world, but if you do you owe it to yourself to take your tune, and enjoyment, to the next level.
People want to make this car something it’s not. It’s really a drivers car. It’s perfect completely stock. Sure more power is nice but for carving up a backroad it’s not necessary. It’s cool they just did a little bit. Trying to make this a pure drag car ruins it. What good is 600+ hp on the street? I guess for highway pulls but as you can see he got way more enjoyment out of the circuit than the strip. The stock turbo has an incredible poweband which makes its so much more usable. Can’t wait to get my 6 speed
I'm glad you bought this car. So many people who bought it ruined it with in days. I'm glad there is enough of an audience on CZcams with an IQ high enough to justify keeping a supra almost stock and owning it for a year. Rather than trying to make it into a drag car when that person has no idea what a drag car should be. Or cutting it up and throwing a wide body kit on it. I also love how you were honest. And having driven lots of modern sports cars. I would say. If I lived in a place with better roads. I would have a mk5 supra. And really the only next "dailyable" sports car up the chain worth the extra money would be a 911 turbo.
I test drove one that was broken in. The car is simply amazing. if the partnership was what was able to keep this car sub 60k I'll take it. The B58 has impressed me quite a bit.
Daily driving in Sydney the auto is a god send. In party mode it shifts as quick as a DCT We have other manual cars anyway so lucky to have options to get our fix
I can carry kids in the RS3 and with just a circa~$1400 E85 APR tune (no hardware - bone stock) get 404kw and it’s practical - has good rear visibility and obviously works in both the dry and the WET. Can run late 10’s without switching to drag radials. It’s not as sexy looking as the Supra though - but also nowhere near as compromised (as sports cars go). The new M240i xdrive with the same B58 engine as the Supra will be a compelling argument….

Many ignorant and close minded people on the internet still talk shit about the MK5 Supra, if you want an example of how capable the new Supra is look up Jackie Ding, his Supra wipes the floor off his competition while still being comfortable for street driving, the rest of his competitors' cars are all fully stripped out and no longer comfortable enough to be street driven. I doubt the new Z can even get close to the overall performance and refinement of the Supra because its chassis is still going to be the old and outdated FM platform that Nissan has been recycling for about a billion years already.

It’s everything the Z4 lacked visually and the Z4 chassis is a proven race car. Though not Toyota it’s kept the Supra platform at heart. straight 6, RWD, 2 door
I reckon the new 400z will be a good contender for it with similar mods, however with the supra having the BMW interior it will always be a nicer place to sit in. Also worth considering the Audi tt rs with that banging 5 cylinder as well.

@@nickng5857 It does but it doesn't. Technically it only effects what the tune effects. If you have a suspension or electrical issue, it is still coveraged, while an engine failure may not. It's not a blanket void. You can also " un-tune" it before it goes to the dealer

personally i would have liked it to have a manual option, bigger car overall and maybe stayed at 18 inch wheels. but tbh im quite content at what came out considering all manufacturers not really spending money to develop cars like this

I don't know about the size of them I think it needs to be bigger as I've tried to drive the bmw they're based on and I physically can't whereas mk4 supra seemed big enough for almost anyone
They even go well around a track for a few laps too! So you should have fun and minimal issues when you can get out to SMSP and WP one day. There's a video on my channel following a well driven one for 5 hard laps. Same mods: tune, downpipe and R888R rcomp tyres. Got to be happy with that for an all rounder car.
If u want this engine in a cheaper package, consider the M140i, absolute little animal of a car. I have claimed many scalps in mine and it makes me laugh my head off daily!

I’ve been saying this for months and possibly years since the A90 released and got A LOT of different reactions to my opinions being that they’re THE most analogous of the current crop of JDM supercars. The R35 will still be the reigning king while the A90 sits below it. But comparing the two… the A90 just feels more natural compared to the robotic R35. Both of those cars are still heaps better than the new NSX which is slow, boring, heavy and overpriced.

Are you seriously comparing a Falcon to a modern supra? That bloody clunky IRS subframe and dated interior just never evolved throughout the years. No wonder it all went bust. Falcon turbos are my fav daily performance car and even I think they were made without creativity or ingenuity.

Why? You get total comfort when cruising in peak hour traffic, but in sport and manual mode, it paddleshifts and as quick as a DCT. The auto box in this is very good. A synchro h-pattern would make it slower. More engaging maybe for some, but its fast enough to not need it
@@MotiveVideo Nothing beats going through the gears! I'm not saying auto isn't great on paper these days, it's just not as fun and rewarding. I do like paddles but for me I would get an AWD car for that. If I'm going RWD then I want the real deal sporty experience and manual is just a must for me. I've had 7 MK3 Supra's so it's not like I don't want this car to be interesting.

Man its a bmw, if it's new it will be fine. However, I am not confident that it will age well (ask me how I know). Its all plastic and not the kind that lasts. No one has ever swoped a bmw motor into something else.
You dont know what you are talking about. I've seen BMW M60 motors in loads of cars. I've seen VW VR6 Turbo swapped into a drift R32 Skyline. I've seen a bunch of M50/M52 motors swapped in Nissan S13's as well. I've seen people swap Volvo and Saab motors into Skylines and Supras. You use what you know/have. Just cause you havent seen it on CZcams or your part of the world doesn't mean it doesnt exist.

The M2 has a different variant of B58 I thought? Great engine though.

U can make 750wtq on one of these on this tranny but not recommend it would slip but that’s stock motor stock tranny

Handles great up until 9/10ths which for a daily is more than adequate. LSD was a factory option which is only way to go.

Are you seriously comparing a Falcon to a modern supra? That bloody clunky IRS subframe and dated interior just never evolved throughout the years. No wonder it all went bust. Falcon turbos are my fav daily performance car and even I think they were made without creativity or ingenuity.
@@ayycee5303 well, yes I am. Mr Hawkins asked for our opinions, so that's what I gave him. With minor suspension upgrades they handle quite well.

Auto just kills it for me.
Why? You get total comfort when cruising in peak hour traffic, but in sport and manual mode, it paddleshifts and as quick as a DCT. The auto box in this is very good. A synchro h-pattern would make it slower. More engaging maybe for some, but its fast enough to not need it
@@MotiveVideo Nothing beats going through the gears! I'm not saying auto isn't great on paper these days, it's just not as fun and rewarding. I do like paddles but for me I would get an AWD car for that. If I'm going RWD then I want the real deal sporty experience and manual is just a must for me. I've had 7 MK3 Supra's so it's not like I don't want this car to be interesting.

I really dislike this car. Way too much bmw and not enough Toyota. Yes a good car but not a fan. I’ll take a mk4 anyday.

@@MotiveVideo I agree they are very impressive but like the new GTR compared to the rb powered GTR’s it’s missing the brutality and most importantly I forgot to mention the sound. But I also love old carby V8’s over modern v8’s.
Anyway. Impressive car and congratulations on the 9 just not my taste of car.
Man its a bmw, if it's new it will be fine. However, I am not confident that it will age well (ask me how I know). Its all plastic and not the kind that lasts. No one has ever swoped a bmw motor into something else.

You dont know what you are talking about. I've seen BMW M60 motors in loads of cars. I've seen VW VR6 Turbo swapped into a drift R32 Skyline. I've seen a bunch of M50/M52 motors swapped in Nissan S13's as well. I've seen people swap Volvo and Saab motors into Skylines and Supras. You use what you know/have. Just cause you havent seen it on CZcams or your part of the world doesn't mean it doesnt exist.

@@MotiveVideo it doesn’t make it worse, I see the sense in cost wise why they did it... do I think Toyota could of built a better car then BMW, yes 100%. I love the GR Yaris. I would of complained about the mk4 if it’s vents were fake as well but they actually put effort into that car. The mk5 Is an good performance car, but it wasn’t built with passion, it was built for a price bracket. But I also think a lot of today’s cars and most performance cars aren’t built with passion
