@Galva Tron What are you on about , the high res textures are easy enough to install if you want them, there's no point forcing people to download them if they're not going to use them, high res textures take up storage space.
You are spilling so much verbal diarrhoea that doesn't make sense, it's clear you have no clue what you're talking about. How old are you?

    • @jamesrouse3466

@Galva Tron You mean the Insane textures pack that's meant for larger RAM pools and for 4K resolution and above?
As a PlayStation only player, obviously you wouldn't know anything about resolutions or texture settings that go that high.
      Go troll somewhere else.
Thank goodness I haven't restricted myself to slavishly playing on one platform... I own an Xbox One X, OG PS4 and a Switch, and I love them all... They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I HIGHLY doubt you have been gaming longer than I have been alive...
I have a college education and I was an Aviation Operations Specialist in the US Army for 6 years, between the years of 2003 to 2009. I think I would qualify as being somewhat acquainted with the real world. I have also been gaming regularly since I was about 12... starting with survival horror games, first person shooters and fighting games.
So don't try the whole, "he's an ignorant kid gag with me" or anyone else,... it's not that impressive.
If you or anyone else can't handle being trolled in response to your trolling, perhaps you aren't suited for the argument for which you want to be involved...

Trigger Happy It’s an interesting situation. We know from the big publishers financial reports that the market share for AAA multiplats is approx 50% PS4 25% Xbox 25% PC. Sony outguns everyone. MS’s push on the PC front is crucial to their sales of exclusive content. Be interesting to see how Gears 5 sells across Xbox/PC. The exclusive champ this gen is Spider-Man on PS4 currently at 14m and counting. It won’t get anywhere near that but moving into the next gen I think the MS ecosystem is going to be a much stronger rival to Sony. And Game Pass will be at the centre of the ecosystem.

SLI is dead on DX 12 titles as well, so that doesn't help no matter how much money you throw at it. Never mind that you're a single person, so that's a pretty self-centered/anecdotal argument.

@@tomwebb7091 Not ironic since it's pretty much the only exception to the rule. SLI and Crossfire were mostly garbage from the start anyways, since rarely did a game scale more than 50% with both cards and also it would introduce a lot of issues like stuttering (like you see here with DRS enabled except worse and more consistent) or other performance/graphical issues a lot of times. I ran SLI for a few generations before I got tired of the constant issues and realized it was much more troublesome than it's worth considering you're not getting anywhere near twice the performance while still having performance and stability compromises on top of it.

Strangely in Gears 5 the Bloom setting on PC seems to be rather CPU heavy... Despite claiming to have no CPU impact since it's a post-processing effect.
I am using an I7 3770k @4.4GHz, 2400MHz Dual-channel memory and a 1080 Ti. Turning off bloom gives me a 10-15% boost in fps due to an increase in GPU usage.
(Turning off Bloom also disables Lens Flare). I know a lot of people hate these effects anyway, so it's a pretty nice boost in fps if you are CPU bound. Try it out on the Benchmark tool if you have an older CPU.

Any UE4 DRS on PC is to some extent a custom implementation. In my own UE4 project, I had something similar to what Gears 5 is doing where every X frames it bumps up the scaling and tests for a frame drop, but I decided against it due to the periodic stuttering.

So I think the stutter in dynamic resolution mode, is probably because once the game drops resolution because frames were to long to render, it needs to know if it is safe to go back to higher resolution and still maintain performance. So it probes it using a one high res frame, and it finds out it is still slow. During change of resolution, there is some big state changes in the rendered and driver, and it shows as TWO extra stutters, because we need to change state of pipeline both when going up and back down. I think the trick would be to do more precise estimation of GPU load based on a number of pixels, and do increases in resolution in smaller increments, and use time frame info to figure out pretty precisely what should be the resolution with a target framerate (assuming the camera position and things happening on screen are not going to you know change to completely new view, which could happen of course, but some extra information, like exponential weighted average of last 10 or 20 frames, could also help). Unless it is some driver related issue when changing state, it should be solvable by a bit more careful and smart resolution changes.

Gears 5 on PC was a massive technical step up from Gears of War 4. I had no problems running both games maxxed out at 1080p, but Gears 4 encountered severe stuttering and juddering when entering new areas typical of many Unreal Engine 4 games despite otherwise hitting a solid 60fps even in heavy firefights once assets are loaded. It also had a few crashes, including one that happened every time after beating the Swarmak unless I skipped the cutscene.
Gears 5 had none of these stutters and crashes. While there's a few tiny dips here and there, it's overall a much smoother experience. I did encounter scripting bugs on several occasions that required reloading a checkpoint where the AI character just goes braindead when they're supposed to do something scripted, like plant a beacon or fix something. However, there's one bad bug where weapons you stowed on your skiff will disappear if you die and reloaded a checkpoint. Since dying in this game is pretty much a given, you have to carry your 2 preferred relic weapons all the time or lose them for good.

After 3 years and bad dx12 ports are still the norm...I really wish we had more PC focused devs to set a new industry standard.
Still, props to Microsoft. Definetely considering getting Gears 5 if it's ever on sale to check it out, especially for HDR.
Forza Horizon 4 is still the most dropping game on my PC, and it just works like a beauty. Cheap to run while looking amazing, incredible HDR and it's just a super fun and solid game.
The only thing I heavily dislike about their games is how the Mjcrosoft Store hides game files. Kind of pointless to me

I think MS descion to treat the XBox like a PC going forward helps as well, that is games being scaled ip/down to work on a range of machines. This allows Xbox games to be developed with higher graphics/performance in mind and not limited to whatever the current console is.

This game is fantastic, I'm completely blown away by it in every respect. The awe of it reminds me of Gear 1, where I was so amazed with everything in the game.
Anyway, I've been playing on both my XBO-X (Gears 5 LE console, and it's gorgeous), and on my PC with a 3900X and a RX 5700XT. I find the HDR seems better on the X which lends to some aspects of the game just being more impressive, that said their's no denying the PC's crisp visuals. I'm playing with both on my 32" Samsung Freesync 2, HDR600, 144hz gaming monitor, my PC is on Ultra across the board and I'm getting between 70 - 130 fps, it moves around in that range and I spend a lot of the time in the 105'ish range (Benchmarks at 77fps). I don't notice any frametime issues on the XBO-X due to the Freesync so it feels really smooth all the time, that said I can definitely tell when I'm on PC, that near doubling of fps is definitely noticeable.
Finally a true AAA game that is exactly what I expect to see more of in the future of GP and GP Ultimate. We're starting to see the pay off for all the investments they've made in the last few years and all I can say is we all have a lot to look forward too. Microsoft is proving they're serious about gaming again.

What amazed me the most about the PC version is how incredible clean the visuals are. No aliasing, no blurred textures, no tearing, and this with a silky smooth 60fps at insane setting (i7 6700K, 32GB Ram, 1080ti @2560x1600 res)

Perhaps not a lot I dont think, it's already super optimised, they've put a lot of other devs to shame with a game as open and gorgeous as Gears 5 running at close to 4k 60fps...Its already that much better looking than Gears 4 add twice the resolution/fps, that's just down to them stretching the engine to the limit for the X. If the One and the X are practically identical aside form resolution and frame rate, the best wed see is just native res...But thats just my thoughts. Only the Coalition know

@@IFibreOpticI Coming off of great looking game like Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox One X this is kinda a let down. The Coalition could've gave people the option of Dynamic Resolution @60 or Native 4K @30fps with higher graphics.

    • @IFibreOpticI
      @IFibreOpticI Před 5 lety

@@GameMasterpg Like I said. I dont think they could push texture detail or effects that much further, the CPU is the bottleneck predominantly, so to see it run at 60fps at all is an achievement. This means the graphics in gears 5 in console One/X likely aren't very CPU dependent, therefore dropping the FPS wouldn't see much benefit visually, that was my only point :) I'm nothing of an expert though! But the fact there isn't an option like there was in Gears 4, implies that a 4k native option would be pointless. Rise of the tomb raider had it where a 4k native option or high resolution high fidelity mode, or 1080p 60 mode was available....but the Higher fidelity high res mode was superior...gears 5 essentially combines all 3 of these so choosing would be asinine, as it's close to 4k anyway, very stable 60fps most of the time, and the graphics arent too dissimilar to PC max anyway!
