Please tell me where I am going wrong? I am looking for all these expansions for this game on Steam and I am not finding them in the library. I want to add them to my current Cold Waters game and its not working out. So frustrated.
@@05Hogsrule Start looking on Subsim. They have either direct downloads from their libraries there or at least have links to other pages that do have the mods.
What's the point of using an ssgn Ohio when you can't use the huge cruise missile battery? The vls is empty!

@@WortWortWortHog I'd guess that they'd wouldn't be terribly happy with all the nuclear reactors and weapons floating around. Definitely had a point with the early Soviet nuclear boats. Probably not the best thing in the world to be infront of one when it's active sonar goes off.

I started a 1984 campaign in this class a few weeks ago! I rolled for a USS Alaska SSBN-732.
Louder than what I usually drive and the lack of TASMs takes some getting used to but I like it. The VLS with TRIDENT missiles won't lock-on to ships though, so I don't get much use out of it. To date, I've never gotten a mission to strike a land target in my 40 total hours of playtime.
The Trident is a strategic *Nuclear Missile.*
Not designed for tactical land strike or ASuW against ships.
Magz, I just wanted to commend you on your knowledge of submarine history and tech. I come here in part to watch you drive the boat, but more to hear your take on various subs, sensors, and weapons systems.

There's a bug in the game I think, where the voice comes are wrong. When the sonar first says S4 is cavitating, it's actually S1 (the Oscar) that's cavitating, as per the log message on the side. I've found that the log messages are the correct ones.
I’ve actually shot a whale in this game with the seawolf and at first I was laughing my ass off when i fired the torpedo thinking it was pretty funny but once the mark 48 hit it then it became pretty anticlimactic. LOL
Just uncovered this by chance, and I've got to say; these sub videos are intense. Just got done watching the Sverdlov video, #13, and damn was that intense. I'll be subbing :)
What Soviet commander decided to protect an Oscar with another ballistic missile sub (Juliet) and a coastal diesel sub (Kilo)? That is an automatic Gulag from me dawg. I think Cold Water sometimes makes the engagements with subs too easy.

It’s been said life on board an Ohio, or really any SSBN/Trident sub is super duper boring. Just deterrent patrols with sometimes not one single contact in 2 moths. Whelp! Not in Magz world!
i notice that you often set the torpedoes' activation waypoint relatively far back, risking overshooting it as happened here in the case of the juliett. do you see an advantage in doing that that i can't spot?
It depends on what I am doing in regards to range and speed.
When waypoint following the torpedo is quieter but it's also slower and burns less fuel so can stay active longer. Once active the torpedo is faster but it's louder, easier to detect and it burns it's fuel much quicker. My placement of activation waypoints is usually based on a combination of factors that involve all of the above as well as the location (or anticipated location) of the target and how aware it is of me.
I think you bumped into an escorted SSGN Wolfpack sniffing out convoys and fleets Magz. Can’t think why they’d attach a slow Kilo though if all are faster nuclear subs.
My favorite was the seawolf from sub command I hope that’s available in this game and the akula was beast too
So this thing would be perfect for guided missile assaults as it wouldn’t have to go to periscope depth to fire a missile…

And a Typhoon is a piece of crap compared to an Ohio. The Ohio was called "The Black Hole of Sound" by the Russians, and they said the way to find an Ohio was to find the only place in the ocean where absolutely no sound was coming from... and that must be where an Ohio is!

Not that hard or very hard depending on the sub. In something slow you would just be a target, in something fast . . . well that's how I drive the Alfa :P

Actually they are and you can launch them but for some reason your have to select them to fire them

Out of curiosity, would a sonar operator really need to scroll through the various signatures to ID a contact or would a computer automatically check that, depending on the confidence or signal strength? It seems to me something a computer could do and but Cold Waters makes you do it manually (subject to crew proficiency) to make the game more interesting and/or interactive.
This vid is so awesome it needed 2 introductions.
I love this game but 90% of time you go up against very low tech (Romeo&Juliet) subs with some pretty decent US subs

@@f4_phantom_485 yeah, I do that a lot. If I'm not feeling the start of the recording (I do it all live while playing remember) and nothing has happened yet I'll often just start again. Normally I edit that out and you would never know but I guess in a rush I missed this one.
Call it a peek behind the scenes, I essentially live edit my own videos while I'm actively recording and playing.
@MagzTV It does make sense to live edit, but it is not something which I had even thought about as a way of finding a better starting point. Your mistake has given me some insight on ways of making videos, so thank you for that and the explanation.

I don't get it. How is this game considered "fun" compared to Silent Hunter and the "old-school" submarines where you actually had to plan ahead and think a little before firing a torpedo, instead of dumb-firing one "somewhere" in the general direction of the enemy? I still love your videos Magz, but I'm quite chocked and puzzled as of why Cold Waters has gotten so popular in general.
Also; is Cold Waters actually considered being a submarine SIM - or is it really as arcady as it looks like from YT videos? I mean, Is there any reason what so ever to even try and dodge an incoming torpedo, when the aggressor is able to simply "turn" the torpedo around a gazillion times, if it didn't hit the first time? That Victor truly did an amazing job succeeding in dodging the torpedo that many times before it's luck finally came to and end.
CrazzlY counter firing is how you try get the attacker to speed up and break their wires giving your counter measures a chance. Then the smaller fuel reserves of certain nations torpedoes give you a chance to outplay them.
The game does highlight that once detected if you’re a slow sub you’re a dead sub.

WW2 subs and U-boats could target submarines at all unless they were on the surface. the job of those boats was almost exclusively to hunt unarmed merchants or logistics boats, while they did sometimes go after warships it was always risky as the torpedos used had either no or very limited guidance, were unreliable and very short-ranged.
Modern submarines have advanced active and passive sensors so advanced they can be used as remote sensor packages for locating undetected targets, along with remote wire guidance that yes can allow a torpedo to turn as you see providing the wire does not break, can range out to over 40nm+ and are faster than almost anything in the water. Modern Submariners often say there are only two kinds of ship in the ocean, Submarines, and Targets. The kind of combat done by Uboats has been dead for 70 years.
As for why people find it fun? Well, I don't find Fortnite fun but millions do, I don't really understand why people find it fun either but my understanding isn't required. You are not expected to like everything, you are only expected to like what you like. Apparently, a lot of people really enjoy watching and playing with modern subs, if you don't that's fine. You have Silent hunter and Uboat to play. Personally, I enjoy both.

Cold war era and modern sub/ ASW is an entirely different type of challenge. It's fun in a totally different sort of way; like playing 3D chess.

Are you able to torpedo the whales in this game? Just curious.
@k halliday I haven't actually killed a whale so far as I know in Cold Waters but the torps do not have any problems going after whales. There was a whale in the middle of a landing convoy and all my ADCAPs just wanted to go and hit it. I had to manually guide every single one of them.
I have, you have to keep your wires and a close eye on those weapons.

Thaster 97 it’s in game, the mod is only for using Russian subs (and various other non US nations)
