    I smiled when you said, "In Jamaica you call it poor man's food. I am from the U.S., and I call it the same thing. I had it for breakfast yesterday, and I thanked God, and I said, most of the world don't know what they are missing. I laughed to myself and said, I consider it poor man's food, but to me it is gourmet at it's finest when it is prepared right! Mmmm, love me some canned mackerel!!

      I have so many variations on canned mackerel it's one of my favorites. Many people love it as it's presented here but there's always room for improvement when it comes to my favorite Yardie food! Thanks for watching, please check out all my other videos

      I am from Ghana and we call it poor man food too but my mama called it "last resort" food...that is what you use when there's nothing around the house especially during rainy season when you are shut inside and can't go to the market...we use the "TINAPA" BRAND!!! Hmm I miss her tin mackerel and salted beef tomato soup with fufu,

      MSE. Dzirasa
      You are on point, when you said that your mom calls it last resort. Now when I think of it, that is when I normally prepare it when I run low on other things. I will normally fix it on my day off so that I won't have the smell of Mackerel on me when I go to work. LOL. You know that would not be nice!!

      In Jamaica we know what time it is when some "Tin" mackerel get cooked! Bill are due and no money to spend. But it's good food with great flavors so Big up to all my mackerel lovers out there!!

    Dear Yardie Belly, I just want to say a huge thank YOU for sharing this recipe. It was the first ever recipe I learnt from CZcams. I was in a very dark place at the time and your recipe brought me so much joy. I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for it. It's been shared with so many people, it's no exaggeration when I say I've cooked it over 50 times! Thank you once again, and keep up the brilliant work

    My first time seeing your video and it definitely won't be my last. I have plenty cans of plain mackerel, so I'll add a can of tomato sauce. can't find provisions in north florida, have to drive 13 miles south to get the provisions I can't wait to make this, I was ready to bite the screen, like montego marley one of the other commenters said. Just think I had only made mackerel cakes, loved them.

      Mrs. Dash is a healthy alternative to regular seasoning salt. This video is old as so I've changed up many of my ingredients since then. More healthier choices

    I don't understand why so many people like thyme, it literally tastes like dirt and not only that but even the tiniest amount overwhelms the whole dish that you put it in making the whole thing taste like nothing but dirt. I have tried using fresh thyme, dried, freshly dried and it doesn't matter it just ruins everything. And you can't taste any of the other flavors in there.

    • @YardieBelly
      @YardieBelly  Před 2 lety +1

      You may be just the person who has an adverse reaction to thyme. Just leave it out of your cooking it however has been a staple in Jamaican cooking for years

    • @m.theresa1385
      @m.theresa1385 Před rokem

      Thyme is my favorite herb, but I know what you mean - it is a distinct flavor which can be found in many Jamaicandishes. Maybe substitute a little oregano if you like that? (I’ve also made this with a bit of basil which went well with the tomatoes). Cheers!
