Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls due to the Titans, gigantic humanoid beings who devour humans. The story follows the adventures of Eren Jaeger and his childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, whose lives are changed forever after a Colossal Titan breaches the wall of their home town. Feel free to pause those frames with the information on it as they help world build and can even give very crucial information about the story. Thanks for watching in subtitled, I know it can be rough at first but the Japanese voice actors put their soul into the performance and it's so worth it.

I've watched it in both sub and dub and honestly it is amazing in both. Watched sub alone and dub with my mother who is only just getting into anime, so it made it easier for her to understand and follow.

Attack on Titan is the most rewarding show you could watch. There is absolutely zero filler, everything is relevant to the story, and the foreshadowing is insane. I also love all the theory crafting you guys have done and how involved you seem with the story. It makes for a great video and I'm here for it.

Whats good about this show is, that its one story. It isnt like other shows were each season has a big baddie with a different new dilema for the season. This is one continuing story.
Yes! I heard that they only let Isayama publish this story when he finished fleshing out the story. That's why so many scenes make so much more sense when you rewatch them. It's unfortunate but I think in other cases writers don't know for sure if they can release more seasons so they try to wrap them up so that they can also stand alone if a new season doesn't get approved. Exact thing happened with Legend of Korra I believe - was only supposed to be a 1-season spin-off then all of a sudden Nickelodeon drops that they should write a couple more seasons, and they were on a time crunch.
YEP! and everything turns out to be interlinked and connected. Ever since the first second of it, to the last. Nothing was done without intent. Isayama is my GOAT!
The writing, the animation, the OSTs, the design, EVERYTHING about this show is insanely good, y'all are never regretting it.

EVERYTIME I see the SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 Title "To You, in 2000 Years" It always amazes me how this man wrote it planned out so much
He planned out everything by constructing the story backwards. He started at the end of season 3 and expanded it. The season 4 is a sequel I'd say because of how detached it is to the vibe of the previous seasons

@@KBearsReactIf that’s what you’re worried about, you can toss that concern out the window. AoT is certainly *not* the best anime ever made, even if it is *one of* the best(though, a lot of people have come to hate it after learning how the story ends, so…do with that what you will). I recommend My Hero Academia, One Piece, Mushoku Tensei, Death Note, and Code Geass, just to name a few. My Hero Academia and One Piece are two shows that are action heavy, teach interesting lessons(about heroism for MHA, and freedom and “treasure” for OP) and have some *very* emotional moments, while Mushoku Tensei has *beautiful* animation and amazing worldbuilding(not that it’s the only one on this list with amazing worldbuilding) and even created its own languages, just like Lord of the Rings or Star Trek, and both Death Note and Code Geass are shows that can really make you think, with main characters that are basically geniuses with morally questionable methods to reach their goals. Basically, anime is chock full of amazing stories. If you’re looking for something, there’s an anime that has it. It’s a *very* diverse medium when it comes to stories, themes, genres, etc.

@@robsdianten1 Well for starters, there’s the Big 3. They’re called the Big 3 for a reason. All three of them are super popular and reach different achievements when it comes to their source material. For example, One Piece. It’s the best selling manga of all time, and is basically Japan’s Star Wars in terms of how beloved it is. Even its anime is the longest running anime under a single title in history. It’s loved so much because underneath all the silliness and action is a masterfully crafted story with things being foreshadowed hundreds of chapters/episodes before they’re revealed and heavy themes of slavery, childhood trauma, and many more.
I’d rather not focus just on the Big 3(partially because I haven’t seen Bleach, but also because I don’t want to only focus on the super popular ones), so outside of the Big 3, there’s Mushoku Tensei. A lot of people think it’s offputting because the MC is a massive pervert at the beginning of the story, but once you get past that(Eren isn’t exactly everyone’s favorite MC either, so the MC being unliked is not a good argument against it compared to AoT) the story is a master class in character progression and world building. The MC goes from the massive pervert at the beginning of the story, with psychological trauma that carried over from his previous life(this is a reincarnation Isekai series, and often referred to as the “Godfather of Isekai”) and would drool over the chance to have a harem, to a loyal man who wants to be loyal to the woman he loves and anguishes over the struggle of doing so because he also loves another woman who unknowingly helped him overcome the aforementioned trauma, taught him a lot about the world, and was there for him when he hit his lowest point(the other woman did something similar as well). And the worldbuilding is so insanely good that when it was adapted from its source material into an anime, the creators of the anime version took fictional languages that the author had the characters using in the story and actually *created* those languages, having the voice actors speak those fictional languages. Speaking of the source material, just like how One Piece had the honor of being the best selling manga of all time, the web novel that Mushoku Tensei originated from was number one on the site it was posted on for *years* after it was posted. Plus the animation is top tier. The studio that made it, Studio Bind, was a studio that was created *specifically* for this anime, taking the best animators from multiple studios, to create one of the most beautifully animated shows you’ll ever see.
Then there’s Death Note, Code Geass, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and a whole lot others that are incredible shows for one reason or another. There are so many contenders for the “greatest show ever” in the anime medium that anyone who claims Attack on Titan is the greatest show ever has clearly not seen very many anime(which the op admitted in his first sentence). Attack on Titan is infamous for its ending being hated. Most of these other shows don’t have a controversy about their endings ruining the whole story, unlike Attack on Titan.
Also, this isn’t a criticism, just a tip for future reference: the plural for anime is still just anime. Like how the plural for deer is still deer.

Please, for the love of god, I hope you have a 3rd party moderating your comment section for these videos. People cannot help themselves and _will_ spoil aspects of the show for you, most of the time without even knowing so. Many people will say things like "Oh man, can't wait for X episode!" which ostensibly ruin the blind reaction, since you now _know_ to expect something on that episode. I can't wait to watch another group react to this amazing show and I just hope you guys remain completely unspoiled for the entire sitting :) enjoy the ride!
Exactly! The worst spoilers are the kinds where people don’t MEAN to ruin things, but saying things like “can’t wait till THAT reveal next episode” or “I’m not saying anything, I’m just saying so and so is my favorite character/don’t get too attached to blah blah blah just saying” really does set spoiler list expectations. I mean…Imagine if someone had said “just wait until next episode!” for that one subtle but legendary reveal. We all probably know which one I’m talking about lol, and that would have ruined that “out of nowhere” punch. 🙂🙏

@@masamune2984The worst spoilers are the Streisand effect spoilers, imo. Basically when someone reads a spoiler and then tells the commenter to stop spoiling things. This is bad because by telling someone to stop spoiling, they are inadvertently becoming a 3rd party that is confirming that the spoiler is true.
The best way to combat spoilers, imo, is to make up fake spoilers to drown out the real ones.

About sub. MC, Eren, is voiced by Yuki Kaji. He is talented but... he is born to scream. There is no man on this world that can put so many emotions to his screams.
About walls. Its often causing confusion. There is 3 wall circles. And each circle has 8 gates. 2 in north, west, east and south. So Big guy break one gate, white hair titan break second. Which make one circle fully open to outside, overtaken by titans, world.
I cant tell you enough how glad i am that you picked the subtitled version with Japanese voices. Its how it should be seen.

aot in dub is just as good if not better, coming from someone who usually prefers sub
I think the quality of voice worknis awesome in both. However I think people miss a lot of amazing animation because they have to focus on reading the text. Also some emotions just translate better when hearing it in your native language.
I think people who force reactors to watch this particular anime in Japanese with subtitles is doinf a disservice.
Dont have to agree. Just an opinion. But wouldnt you rather they got to enjoy the animation dubbed, then get to enjoy the subs on their own time during a rewatch. As opposed to missing animation or missing key lines?
I watched some of the most iconic clips in dub. Let's say I felt really sorry for dub viewers after. The thing is they probably think it's still good, which is the sad part.

Yep, this is one of the most brutal openings to a series I've ever seen. The world is so bleak that I had to step away after the first season. I had to go back to something cheery like Death Note.
The person, Hajime Isayama, who created this manga (story) once said in an interview that the titans are inspired by drunk net cafe guys 😅
Hence the ‘joker’ face and walk. But it’s astonishing that even with that how scary their presence is.

Could be a bit of uncanny valley for both. They may have the form of a human but can't be reason with as one (if drunk enough), just like a zombie.

Great reaction, new suscriber here! Already after just 2 episodes you have great insights. And I love your reaction to Hannes not fighting the Titan. A lot of people's reaction to that scene is "Hannes, you coward", maybe because they're too used to the trope of the protagonist fighting against all odds. But not you, your immediate reaction was "that's the right choice". I already know that I'm going to enjoy watching you on this journey!

Heres some advice: Most people will say to pay attention to everything because this show has a LOT of foreshadowing but lemme say: its fine if you don’t realize or connect things right away
this show has been going on for 10 years, and ended last year and people are STILL finding new easter eggs throughout the show. It takes lots of years of rewatching to find lots of things!
So don’t worry about thinking too hard, just have fun watching!!
I actually think that's one of the pleasures of watching this show, it is made to be be watched more than once. It's like a different world, almost like watching another show and it makes you realise the story is way better written than you already believed, so you appreciate even more!

@@CataRDJ Vivy: Fluorite Eyes is a pretty good show, you should try that sometime in the future. While the plot isn't the first of it's kind and the pacing can be confusing at certain episodes, it's made by the same studio that made AOT and it's a pretty unique experience in by itself.

Meet the Armored Titan. His design was based on Brock Lesnar's physique as per the Manga creator, Isayama.
Also, you might want to go back and read the "Information available for public disclosure" at the end of each episodes..most of them give good info or logistics.

Especially the comments I've been seeing of quoting the anime title or lines said in the anime and then saying stuff like "this hits different now that I finished the anime" or "this was some foreshadowing".
Sure sometimes without context it won't matter, but some people can get it even without the context or later on figure it out.

Oh my. I couldn't belive my eyes... Attack on titan is by far the best anime ever. You should totally watch it till the end. These emotions will hit you like a truck. And there are no filler episodes. The story continues in every episode. I would love to watch it again for the first time.

@@superior7968 Well that right there is your problem. You’re only watching the overhyped stuff(INCLUDING Attack on Titan), rather than the stuff that actually achieve things. For example, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has been #1 on MyAnimeList pretty much since it aired way back in 2009. Mushoku Tensei’s source material was #1 on the website it was originally posted on for *years* before it was ever even announced that it would be adapted into an anime, has such great worldbuilding that it created entire fictional languages just like Star Trek and Lord of the Rings did, and had an entire animation studio formed _specifically_ to animate it because the source material is so great. One Piece is the best selling manga of all time and is also the longest running anime under a single title. The list goes on. The shows *you* mentioned have no such achievements. They’re just overhyped by fanboys for one reason or another. There are *hundreds* of thousands of anime, and you just watch six shows and declare one of them the best show ever made and the other five “boring as heII” so you conclude *all* other anime must be “boring as heII” too? You can’t declare a show “the best show ever made” if you’ve barely watched any shows to begin with. This seems to be common among people who barely watch any anime other than Attack on Titan. Like seriously, I came across quite a few comments in this comments section alone that said almost the exact same thing you said, along the lines of “I don’t watch much anime, but this is the best show ever”. That’s like having an incredibly small range of foods you eat, then you try one new food for the first time in your life and declare that food to be the best food in the world, despite not having even tried countless other foods. It’s speaking from ignorance.

This show is held very near and dear to my heart, I’ve been an avid viewer since episode 2 premiered all those years ago and it has kept me in a chokehold since. You guys will LOVE this one, it has many many aspects of everything that I think you guys will have tons of conversation with. Please please guys make sure to watch until it says “to be continued” at the end, and please be vigilant of what you’re seeing. Everything plays a part. Yes! Thank you for watching the Japanese version. I understand that some people don't want to read subtitles but in my opinion the voice acting from the Japanese actors is immaculate
The dub is also particularly bad. Eren's English VA is terrible and they changed his *alternate* scream to a godzilla sound effect in the dub

I never watch dubbed anime. It's just not the same! Plus when learning the language, hearing natural speakers help too. I can't imagine not hearing Luffy say kaizouku ou ni orewa naru in English.

I hit subscribed instantly after seeing that they're diving into this anime! I'M ALL FOR IT!! AOT IS ONE OF THE BEST OUT THERE!
This is my absolute favorite anime, it's such an incredible story. I've not seen it since the finale and even the opening moment I have to take a moment to prepare myself. Glad you guys are enjoying it.
Things to keep in mind from an AoT fan since day 1 (no spoilers):
- Each season is better than the ones before it, so technically, you're watching the "worst" season. So, if you're liking it now, you're in for a ride.
- AoT follows an unusual structure from Western stories. Don't go insane with theories because EVERYTHING is answered in due time, just not around the time we'd expect to get the answers in a regular show.
- Despite anime being very "shouty" and explaining things very loud so you know what they mean, this show's best plot points are the most subtle. Especially around character development. Pay attention to characters traits and ongoing inner stories.
- Did I say you're in for a ride? There's a reason this is considered the anime of a generation. We won't see something of this magnitude for a while.
Dont know why YT didnt recommend this to me when it came out but so glad i get to binge watch your next couple reactions. Did not expect this from yall but i love that you decided to take a leap of faith. This story is dense and complex, i think all of you will love it.

Those quick moments of text/graphs in the middle of the episode are called “Eye-catches.” They’re used in anime to let the viewer know it’s about to go to commercial (on cable) and then to let the view know that the program is back! Some are just the anime’s logo, some are fun little animations, some contain bonus info. I have the jingle that plays during the anime Haikyu!!’s eye-catches as my ringtone😂
