    The one they did that they really nailed is Something About You, shit just has a perfect hook. This one I really like, but yeah the videos of this era can be hit or miss, so sometimes you're better without the visual. This song absolutely sounds different when you aren't watching them lmao - that was like the overextended fubar version though too

  • @aragorn1ring
    @aragorn1ring Před 16 dny +10

    Mark King the lead singer is also a fantastic bassist. He popularized the slap bass, he played with countless legends live and in the studio and is just a good person too. I was never into level 42s sound. But they did have one very catchy hit which was their only top 10 hit. It's called "something about you." It's a mid i0s song so less synthetic more guitar

    I have Level 42s albums, but they don't get played on those occasions when I break out my turntable... They were greats at the time, but their style was very much a product of the 80s, and hasn't aged as well as some others, in my opinion anyway... As others have said, Mark King was a great bassist, and helped them to stand out with his playing as well as his voice, but as others followed in his footsteps, he no longer stands out as he once did, perhaps?

    All respect to Mark King and his bass playing, but while the band had their biggest succes years, many of the songs did not appeal to me. "Meh" is the right word, LOL 🙂 A few songs did stand the test of time to me, though: Love Games (1981), Hot Water (1984) and It's Over (1987). This song Lessons In Love simply doesn't live up to the promise of the heavy guitar intro.

      The issue is whether you've ever heard the song (most likely radio air play), not whether "it makes your top 100,000.". It's not on my playlist either but Level 42 were huge in the '80s with hits and commercial success.

    This is a weak example of music from the 80's. The hip hop equivalent would be a B side from Coolio's album as your glimpse into the level of hip hop in the 90's. There are so many fire songs from the 80's. My fav group was probably INXS but im sure you will listen to more Loose Bedspring before that lol. Have u ever thought about picking some top billboard hits from various years? Again this isn't anything but constructive criticism, but due to the lack of empathy of human beings these days, you can't rely on suggestions from people. some weirdo is going to give you some song that was important to him that no one else liked or listened to on a scale that justifies revisiting it to learn about good music. They will also recommend to you the most obscure songs from Big Time artists that you've never heard or listened to instead of showing you their most popular songs. It's mind numbing.
