    Tip for fighting enemy necromancers - sharp weapons like axes and swords can be dangerous as the necromancer can reanimate sever limbs. Blunt weapons like hammers are highly effective since they will destroy body parts rather than sever them.

      Sent my axe squad to deal with an incursion of undead goblins - lo and behold, a bit of undead goblin neck flies off and lands atop a tree... Cue several in-game months of me trying to get a dwarf up to this tree in a way that they didn't see the undead neck, become disturbed, and cancel their task :D

    Tip for resurrecting your dwarves / fun little bug / exploit: Sending intelligent dead on a raid makes them come back as ghosts under your command. Sending ghosts on a raid and then memorializing them while they're away will make a normal completely healthy dwarf to return.

    Necromancers can also be a pretty good source of endless recreational combat for your dwarves. Some very hard to deal with dwarven needs are "Unexciting Life" "Haven't been in a fight" and "Haven't trained combat skills", and necromancers can be a good way to fill these needs in a controlled manner with some dwarfy engineering. Put a dead, relatively harmless creature like a Crundle at the bottom of a pit, arm and armor your needy dwarf to the best of your ability and have a necromancer (in an environment you can control) turn said crundle into a zombie for your dwarf to fight.
    Fair warning, though, I wouldn't do this to a dwarf on the edge of a tantrum. Much like real humans, dwarves only really want the excitement of combat until the combat actually starts, and getting into a drawn out fight with a zombie crundle is sure to leave your dwarf with some unhappy thoughts.

    • @elpsykoongro5379
      @elpsykoongro5379 Před rokem

      Those discipline lower the negative thoughts?
      I have the idea that it doesn't do that, it only keeps the dwarf from getting overwhelmed, what do you think?

    • @kevingriffith6011
      @kevingriffith6011 Před rokem +1

      @@elpsykoongro5379 According to the wiki, it reduces the dwarf's likeliness of panicking on seeing death or retreating in battle, I don't know if it has any bearing on negative thoughts, but it very well might. DF is noodly, and even the experts can only speculate through observation.

    Necromancer also can get tired (for example from making them work the pump manually), and im pretty sure they cant sleep to recover, not to mention the FPS death they can deliver, they really arent that useful right now barring some rework on their mechanics in the future...

    Do you envy the dead? Do you sometimes wish to be as cold and emotionless as the shambling corpses outside the gates? Consider creating a tavern or temple around the bottom of a 30+ z-level drop shaft and permanently housing your resident necromancer next door in an Office of Lever Pulling. Soon, you too will forget all your troubles and also possibly never feel joy again.

    You can also capture some necros if they siege you. Apparently there is a chance one might get gifted a slab while in your fort as well. They wont read it normally.

    I had a necromancer in my early military in my longer premium DF fort and he never raised up any death thing, i think if they are trained in some things and they are capable of managing their stress in combat etc i think they would not raise death in they are mentally trained.

    not every necromancers are undead, any mortals that read secret life and death will immortal and have friendly to undead privilege yet still retain body improvement and will dead from suffocation, while risen from dead necromancers still have their power but their body will never improve and won't suffocate from choked or drowned
