  • The UT373 UNI-T digital tachometer is Uni-Trend's budget small size non contact laser tachometer that offers good accuracy, useful features & ease of use.
    If you're in the market for an inexpensive, small hand held non contact digital tachometer, or are considering the UNI-T UT373 tach, I hope my little review here can help you decide if the 373 has the features, usability and performance you're looking for in a hand held tachometer.
    Accuracy is impressive, build quality is decent, it's easy to use and the UT373 uses inexpensive and easy to source AAA batteries. The large backlit high contrast LCD display is easy to see and read in both low light and bright sunshine.
    The UT373's non contact RPM light sensor can be used with either the built in laser or an external light source making it very adaptable in multiple applications. It even has a counter feature which adds more versatility over and above that of an RPM meter.
    It works great on smaller RC helicopters where you can safely tach the main or tail rotors. Checking RPM on airplane or quad copter propellers is easily done as well. With an RPM range up to 99,999, about the only thing out of the UT373's useful RC application checking range is model turbine engines.
    Of course, RC is just one area where a nice little digital tachometer comes in handy. These non contact laser tachometers work well in all sorts of applications from automotive, to turning machinery, to power equipment.

    I bought this product a few minutes ago and just now I found your review. I think I did a right decision with this. Thank you for your great review!

    Thanks for the review. TIP:I bought one of these and found it unreliable at first till I discovered that the supplied 3M tape has TWO removable covers to it. There is one for the protective cover of the self adhesive backing (obviously).. BUT also a thin film over the top of the reflective surface too! After removing THAT it worked as it should do. There are no references to the tape at all in the instructions.

    Hi John, thanx a lot for the detailed product review. I was looking for a digital tachometer on Amazon, and there are lots, but this one was my favorite one. You helped me alot making the decision.

    Hi John. Thanks for the learning video. Will this read spark pulse. Wanting an RPM to check the RPM on my lawnmower.
    This one looks photo laser only rather than read a pulse on a spark plug.

      This is an optical tach, not an ignition/spark tach.

      Not sure what solder irons have to do with tachometers; but yes, I've owned and used a Hakko 888D along with several Weller soldering stations at work.

    I'm surprised it's actually a laser diode and not only some collimated LED

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  Před 3 lety

      I'm no expert, but the little I know about LED collimation is you lose a great deal of light output in the process - no? If so, a laser makes much more sense from an increased working distance standpoint along with competing against strong ambient light sources.

      Unused symbol would be my best guess. No mention of it in the manual, and the only time it ever shows up is during the power digit test.
