      Thanks...things have got a lot better. I saved up and got a 220v Millermatic 180 and am loving the machine more than the old 110v Craftsman i bought 35 years ago.

      the owner is finishing up the wiring and the interior. We have kicked around a few color ideas but he has not nailed one down as of yet.
      so yes, part two will be coming up soon...

    as a note to my page, no I am not the best at what I do, and no, I do not have the best tools available.
    This was a hobby turned into a job due to personal injuries I suffered back in 2013.
    As I do appreciate feedback and conversation, I do not need negative or harassing comments that are based simply on what is not known what the client does or does not want for their personal vehicle.
    my parents always said it best 'If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say anything at all".

      What does a restoration like that cost?? I have a 72 in similar condition and I am looking to get it restored. Thanks for any information or help you can give me.

      restorations can vary in price, it just depends on what you want for an end result. Most of the cars I work on are generally part my work and part of the owners.
      On my end I'm usually the one who does all the metal fabrication, body work and paint, then the owners usually do their own interiors and engine work though I have done all as well.
      On this Nova I did most all the metal work, though some had been done before I got the car. With the metal and body and primer the owner was into my shop for around 6K. he was lucky though when he purchased the car that all the new sheet metal came with it otherwise that would have been a cost as well.
      I always tell everyone to make a list of what you want to do to the car, then start gathering all the "new" pieces and parts.
      Shop around for the best deals (I never use one supplier). If you need to farm out some work check around for good labor pricing (around $55 an hour is pretty much standard across the board). If you are going to tackle most the work yourself there are some decent guys on CZcams that take the time to show how to do things right (eastwood has a few good videos).
      you can always check out my facebook page as well to follow along on some of my builds at the shop or at home in the driveway.

    mine doesn't need to have the rear fenders taken off ( just quarters) but it almost looks worth it to clean up the rust which I hadn't thought about till now. hook work

    Where do you find these cars as I want to do this with my dad?

      Some are customers of mine, but if you look at some of my other videos you will see my car builds as well. Muscle car are still pretty easy to find, some are in pretty rough shape but every now and then you can find a nice one for not a lot of money on a project car, I bought my 66 GTO for $600 bucks 5 years ago and my Malibu Station Wagon for $1500 last year.
      Sometimes being at the right place at the right time helps.
      Figure out your skill set so you dont have to pay someone to do the expensive work, make sure you have a decent set of tools (no you dont need snap on, Ive used craftsman for over 40 years).
      Ill be making a video if basic tools Ive used over the years to do my builds soon.
      Recently most cars have been found on facebooks market place, before that I used cragslist and changed my city and state locations for my searches (most under 200 miles from home).

    What is the chemical you used to strip the paint off the car?

    • @rebeldogsgarage4912
      @rebeldogsgarage4912  Před 4 lety +1

      most of the time ill use the red GATOR 60 grit disc that you can purchase at Home Depot.
      If the paint is really tough I will get a gallon of the Air Craft stripper from a local automotive paint store.
      If I use the stripper I always tape up the gaps so the paint cant get inside then I will follow up with a 60 grit or 150 to 180 grit.
      Also as a note I always double tape up glass and chrome pieces if I'm going to be near them for protection.

    • @rebeldogsgarage4912
      @rebeldogsgarage4912  Před 3 lety

      as a note to my past reply, Air Craft Stripper has changed their formula and I no longer use it do to the fact that it no longer has the correct chemical base to strip the paint the way it has in the past and now has a very toxic smell and should be used in a open air well ventilated area.
      I now use a stripping disc to remove the large amount of painted areas areas. I used a 4 1/2" stripping disc on an angle grinder.
      these can be purchased at Harbor Freight for around 5 dollars.
      www.harborfreight.com/4-1-2-half-inch-nylon-abrasive-wheel-94017.html?cid=paid_google|||94017&gclid=CjwKCAiAgc-ABhA7EiwAjev-j0T6wIQeqNmyV-d0rNsZbJl1eLCiRvJfeRHa7sYJqfFDWhvfSQla7xoCD5oQAvD_BwE
      as a note when using these do not use them around areas of chrome, also do not work one spot for periods of time as it will heat up the metal and warp the metal. just swiftly move the disc and let it do the work. I usually use about a disc per panel depending on how much paint is covering the surface.

    • @rebeldogsgarage4912
      @rebeldogsgarage4912  Před 4 lety

      i believe between parts and labor was somewhere around 8K

    • @trillrifaxegrindor4411
      @trillrifaxegrindor4411 Před 4 lety +3

      prepare for hundreds of hours of labor,thousands of dollars in tools,thousands in parts,a large garage,mechanical aptitude and lots of broken old hardware,rusty bolts,cut knuckles etc lots of time spent just finding the right parts then traveling far and paying a great deal for them.(a single fender for my 72 chevelle was $1200,then it needed painted and mounted x2 then rear quarters are double this cost)
      this car painted and restored interior is about $30,000
