  • The 2019 Subaru WRX is here and still features a 2.0L flat-four direct injected, turbocharged engine putting 268HP, mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox, and featuring that famous Subaru AWD! It is still a performance bargain, or should you wait for the redesign?

    The Limited WRX trim has LED headlights & fog lights, so it's not just the STI that has those.
    Also, it's very silly to assume subaru is going to quickly ditch the FA20DIT motor after only 1 wrx generation (as I've seen in comments). Subaru knows that while small, the enthusiast community is integral to their success. They're going to continue with a WRX & WRXs STi. They'd be throwing lots of money away to not do so.

    I just bought one last week, 2019 WRX Premium in Lapis Blue, with STI wheels and performance package. The performance and the tech is simply awesome. I love how it get peak torque at 2500 rpm. It just grips the road. Cornering is so fun. The only downside, I got pulled over by a cop and got my first speeding ticket ever in 18 years of driving. Just over 17 km/h the speed limit on a 110km/h expressway! There must be something about the WRX and those cops, grrrr! I have to watch it now so I downloaded the TomTom Speed Cameras App and it is great so far. Works well with the WRX TomTom Nav system. :-)

    Lapis blue is gorgeous. 2016 I was shopping for a WRX. Salesman called me up said he had an STI in lapis blue. I didn’t know what the color was at the time so I said I’d pop down to see it. He said he was off in ten minutes so I said I’d come down the next day. If I’d had seen it in that color I would have bought an STI when I was just going for a WRX because of the dollars. Got a white WRX, 2 years later sold that and got a Focus RS. I hope that Subaru does some lame upgrade and adds 5 more horsepower or I’ll be trading in my RS. 😂😂😂 2020 is Subaru’s year of reckoning. They need to hit it out of the ballpark or they’ll be dissed and dismissed by enthusiasts. Subaru step up or give up.

      The WRX had serious recalls right. Reliability?

    • @djteako
      @djteako Před 5 lety

      The reliability of the FA20 ????? really ?? Not sure what reports you've heard, but I've heard, and experienced different !!!! I traded my '18 WRX for a '19 STi mostly to get away from the FA20. I also owned an '11 WRX and the '18 was a total let down and disappointment! AND, if you are in to modding your car at all, you best have deep pockets for the FA20 ! Anything above 300CHP (so in increase of 32 hp) and you are going to have to do some serious rebuilding. The internals (rods,bearings, etc) in the FA20 are crap, and there have been many cases of bent rods on even unmodified FA20's. That and the fact that every 30 000km you are going to have to have the intake side of the heads thoroughly cleaned (the walnut blasting they do at the dealerships just doesn't quite cut it) due to the direct injection. Also, the tranny on the WRX is also crap! lots of people and pictures of broken 1st gearsbecause they are very weak!

  • @LarryGanz
    @LarryGanz Před 5 lety +2

    It’s good to know that I can still be happy with my 2017 WRX with pioneer CarPlay head unit, and not feel the need to upgrade model years. It would be helpful for you to mention the difference in ride quality and noise in the cabin between the WRX and the STI, because the STI is much noisier with exhaust drone. I had a 2004 STI that was not as obnoxiously noisy as the 2017, and that plus the improved gas mileage of the FA20 won me over.

I had to relearn how to drive the car. Also the sound system is way better, it has a lot of clarity and bass. I got the premium trim which came with the 7" infotainment screen and STI short throw shifter. Hi Joe, So I told Frank that I was concerned about my foot on my clutch pedal during stop and go traffic. My foot doesn’t reach the floor. I feel my leg getting tired. Last night we went to check out the Focus St but their last one was sold. Subaru was across the street. I wanted to check out the pedals on a BRZ. Car is very low and pedal placement was ok for me. Then we saw a 2019 Ice Silver WRX STI. It looked awesome! I sat in it and my foot reaches the bottom. Then we test drove it. OMG, this car feels lighter than my mustang but it isn’t. I can’t believe how punchy it felt. I loved it! So now the dilemma... Do I take a chance that I can handle it as a daily driver and take a hit on the Mustang Ecoboost even though mine has more options and a better infotainment system. I never thought I would feel this way about a car nor that these cars are not designed with short people in mind. How did you feel after you switched from your Civic Type R to the Focus RS? What put you over the edge?

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 5 lety +1

      I really feel that the WRX STi really gives such a great connection between the driver and the car. It still features a good old fashioned hydraulic steering pump which allows the steering to feel more "REAL" than the electric setups that they have in so many other new cars. I daily drove my (3) STis and never had any issues what so ever.
      For me going to the RS got me what I really wanted, a more connected feel with the car. I love how gritty the RS compared to the Type R. I love all the sounds that it makes and how it put a big smile on my face at the end of the day. The Type R was just to sterile for me. Don't get me wrong, the Type R is an amazing car and maybe if I lived in a state with more twisty roads things would be different but around here in flat Florida the RS makes me happy. I do miss my STi though.

This year’s 2019 seems to finally have all of the features the 2015 SHOULD have had. So how will to 2020 stack up against the end of the next model run? Why delete/get rid of the sun/moon roof ? In my experience it actually adds strength structurally to the top of the car, since they need to add extra cross bars etc for it. For example, my sister had hit a horse crossing the road, it ended up rolling over the top of the car, she had a sun roof, and it didn't cave in much, least not enough to be worry about at the time. The folks at the dealership where it was toed, told her that if she didn't have the sun roof, that she wouldn't be here. So moral of that is, keep the sun roof, there not just for looks :P.

      They don't have sunroofs in rally/race cars because it's more weight with the added cross supports. How ever in consumer cars that doesn't *really* matter as much. An I don't see how a sunroof actually *weakens* a car ? Have you ever pressed down on a car that doesn't have a sunroof ? It's pretty much hollow in the center, where as a car with the sunroof there not entirely hollow, because of the extra cross supports, so I don't see your point of sunroofs being weaker, valid.

    It's funny that the arm rest doesn't really bother me in my 2015.... but I'm getting tired of stick overall in my area and cops are everywhere. These cars easily handle 350 crank HP no problem and REALLY shoot up in torque. Mine peaked out at 319 Torque to the wheels.... so figure in what that is at the crank... and that's impressive over stock. However... would I rather just have a stock car be as fast... yes I would.... When you get rid of the car you really don't gain money with mods so... you better drive it into the ground if you plan on modding it or sell it to a friend for a decent worth.

The hatchback added onto the WRX is literally the best all around car you can find for the price. Coming from a 2015 Impreza sedan- you realize on those road trips or fitting that extra suitcase in your trunk doesn't cut it the sam way a hatch does. People want a WRX that can compete with 40k+ sports sedans and ALSO the cargo room of a CRV. An AWD turbo hatch is a godly priced package when you compare it to Audi.

    If my local Honolulu dealer had an identical WRX, or preferably w/ a CVT, and I had the money to cover that, the dealer markup and other expenses, I would buy that today. I believe the WRX Limited has the active steering headlights of the STI and Crosstrek Limited, but the Performance package is only available in the Premium, and the upgraded brakes, sunroof delete and Recaro Seats are exactly what I wanted with that color. CVT preferred, but with the short throw shifter kit, I would buy the manual. And now with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, it makes it perfect. I heard the base stereo speakers are great, but if the Harmon Kardon option is not available with the Premium, and the Rockford Fosgate accessory upgrade is available like on the Impreza/Crosstrek, that would be great. I am looking at a Lapis Blue Pearl Impreza Sport Hatchback, Crosstrek Limited with the STI wheels and spoiler like your other video, or the new Forester Sport in Midnight Blue Pearl or Black, the Impreza for the affordability and storage, and the latter two to go off road a bit here, but for performance and style, this WRX is all I need and could want now with the new radio for 2019. I would put legal smoke tint windows, and OEN accessories, and maybe an aftermarket or Subaru performance exhaust, but that would be it..

    I've never had an import, been mostly a Pontiac guy but I'm to the point where I don't like much that GM is putting out. My next car will either be a WRX or a Stinger GT with awd. Having awd is almost a must up here in MN. The only knocks I have with Subaru is their cheap ass interior and trim packages. Interior Reminds me of my ol Pontiac. Think they'd do more with it seeing as they cost what 35k +? And why can't I get the sport package on a limited? I personally love a sunroof, also want nav, heated seats, LEDs but I can't get all that with a sport package, how come?

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 5 lety

      I totally understand where you are coming from. If you want the Performance pkg you can't have the sunroof. For some reason that is how Subaru has it optioned.

    Hey Raiti, I've subscribed! Right now my CZcams favs are you, Redline Reviews (Sofyan Bey), and Straight Pipes (Yuri & Jakub), I thoroughly enjoy watching all three of your vids. As an enthusiast myself, I am naturally drawn to a raw AWD performing vehicle. I was drawn to the GT-R and then the WRX initially, but after driving Kia's new StingerGT AWD I was sold, and drove home with my new 2018 AWD fastback by Kia. Out of curiosity, what is your take on the StingerGT as opposed to the STI or a Focus RS? Some compare it to the Porsche Panamara and the Audi A5 Fastback. What say you?

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  Před 6 lety

      That is so awesome of you to say, because I use to watch those two channels before I even had the thought of starting mine last year in October. My take on the Stinger GT is that is a one hell of an AWD machine. I think it is way more polished than and RS or STi but more raw than a Panamara of Audi A5. I commend KIA for building the Stinger GT. They have some very wise German brought over by BMW that are working their magic. What color did you get?

    • @stephenisaaks1
      @stephenisaaks1 Před 6 lety +1

      @Raiti, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond! So cool to know you hold the StingerGT in high regard, it’s great to get your feedback since you’re an enthusiast as well. I got Ceramic Silver as my color, fell in love with it when I saw it. Went with the GT1 as it has a true shifter as opposed to the GT2 with the electronic shifter I never really cared for in the new Audi’s. I know I gave up having a manual tranny with the Stinger, but its performance makes up for it!

      @@stephenisaaks1 I try to respond to as many comments that I can! I like to stay connected with my supporters! I totally love the Ceramic Silver color! That is exactly the way that I would go. Love your enthusiasm! Quick question: Should I look at an older, slightly used WRX for under 20K or get the new 2019 for 31k? Is there a big difference that's worth the 11K? Also do you think the WRX is a "kid's car"? I'm new to the performance car community and people have told me that at my age I should be looking at a Corvette or BMW because the Subaru's/Mustangs/Camaros are for kids. I think they refer to the ride and lack of refinement, but I'm not sure to be honest. Thanks for your advice sir!

      Thank you so much for the compliment! For your question, it depends on how may miles, are there any mods, what options does it have? I personally get concerned about a used WRX based off of how some people treat them and modify them on their own and it doesn't get done properly. When it comes to image I don't thing there is an issue. The car is a performance AWD car and a ton of fun! Plus if it is your daily driver having the space makes things easier. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have anymore questions.

It has a moonroof/Premium trim, cloth seats, rearview camera. Maybe I should just wait till next year and get something for now? I'm a soon to be retiring police officer so I wont be racing anyone I just never had a sports/performance/muscle car, always saved my money when it comes to cars. i've never done anything more than a muffler upgrade on my of my cars. But then again, maybe I might want to change some things. But that's good solid advice. I love in Southern Cal so I don't have snow or much in the way of inclement weather, unless I go into the local mountains. Years ago I wanted a WRX/STI but they were just too expensive for my budget. Now that I'm able to afford one, I find myself torn between this car and the Corvette/Challenger type muscle cars. I know they're different! In the past month I've driven a WRX, a Challenger RT, a Corvette, a and love all of them. I want a daily driver that has the ability to take off when I want to get away from something or someone or just get up and go. Sorry for the long responses, I appreciate the time.
