- Much like in the real world, the Marvel Comics world is filled with gods and deities, whether if you believe in them. These beings are extremely powerful and exist as part of the fabric of the Marvel Universe. A lot of the gods and deities in question mirror those in our own cultures and history. From those who inhabit Asgard to those who live on the lofty Mount Olympus, inspiration and characters are taken from real-world religions and are re-imagined alongside some of our favorite Marvel heroes. Some of the gods are heroes themselves, joining with mortals for the greater good. With this, however, comes nefarious gods who seek to torment or use mortals to their own ends. The spectrum of good to evil does not leave out these beings, and gods in the Marvel universe are often as fallible as their human counterparts. The following is a list of Marvel Dark Gods, mythical deities, and god-like beings Marvel Universe.

Marvel really f’ed up when they said Malekith and the Dark Elves predate the Big Bang… like wtf? What sense would it make for the Dark Elves to be as old as Celestials? Zero. And shame on Disney for letting that line stay in the film.

with new writers coming about, there are changes made to older characters ... for me dormammu, surtur and mephisto are the 3 bad boys of the dark god forum. thanos should be in this list because he has achieved a godly state in the past. depending on who the writer is.

Knull is an Elder God or Primordial god of darkness although he not the darkness itself. He has control over The Abyss and Void LMFAO, you only read from fandom.
Knull able beat All-Father Thor, he even already lost the original All-Black and his sword ties and the beheaded Celestial had been severed by the Valkyrie but he was still more powerful than someone as powerful as Odin and possessed the Odin Force (All-Father Thor).
Again All-Black even created by Knull from his shadow and then he beheading a Celestial with one blow, it's said that the Celestials just banished him into the Void I'm sure Knull even fought them but they were unable to kill Knull and banished Knull into the Void, where he forged his sword and combined his the powers (the Living Abyss) and the Divine Powers of the beheaded Celestial.
He able created all Symbiotes, Exolon, and Mr E (like living shadow) from the Living Abyss, Void or Shadow.

remember, there was a time in marvel when a nut like knull could never ceate a weapon that could kill a celestial ... now he has done it. dormammu ... he aint the toughest but he sure acts like it.
You brought a picture of Mikaboshhi in the introduction and yet, you never mentioned him.
Just so you're aware, while Cthon does have some vaguely Lovecraftian traits, they were largely only established in that 1 story where he is summoned by Carnage. Rhis story was acrually a precursor idea that ended up leading to Knull as initially, the idea was for Cthon to be the origin of the Symbiotes as well as all the other things he's done. Marvel has since moved away from this idea however and focussed more on his magical side. He is also arguably the most powerful demon in all of Marvel. Scarlet Witch using only a fraction of his power, managed to affect the entire Marvel OMNIVERSE with her magic. Cthon has outright stated begore that she is still very much beneath him and the entire reason he is never actually seen in the Marvel Universe himself is becasue his power is so great and his essence so massive that there is no dimensional potral that could possibly allow him to pass through. Combine rhis wirh all of the mystical wards put in place by Gaea after the Elder God War and then strengthened by the Vishanti after they banished Shuma-Gorath from the Earth and no malevolenr entities like Cthon or Dormammu can full manifest in the universe. Then need an Avatar or proxy or something or they can choose to work through manipulating servants. In any case, the Great Old Ones/Many-Angled Ones are the true Lovecraftian archetypes in Marvel, not the Elder Gods.
Speaking ofnthe Great Old Ones, Shuma Gorath is their greatest member so to speak however, while Dr Strange has compared Mephisto to Shuma-Gorath before (he claimed that even Mephisto would be like a mouse in a great temple compared to Shuma in his realm (or maybe it was Shuma's most powerful underling... can't remember), he has never made such a comparison to Dormammu before. He has however fought Mephisto before and stomped him. In this battle, Dormammu decided he wanted ro take over Hell (ALL the Hells) and so he started with Mephisto's realm. He marches Mephisto's realm and simply takes it. Mephisto and Satannish (Mephisto's equal as proven by their multiple battles that were a draw and they were even supposedly part of the same being once), combine their forces and, even with them helping directly, they are still being pushed back by Dormammu's forces. Satannish betrays Mephisto at a crucial moment just as Dormammu shows up, shooting him in the back. We then discover that Dormammu acrually created Satannish as a spy and servant just because he wanted to have an agent in the Hells. So Dormammu casually created a being on par with Mephisto. He also made is seem as though he was one of the Hell Lords to form from the energies of the Demogorge after the Elder God War and everyone - even other Hell Lords believed it. Remember, Mephisto is supposed ro be almost omnipotent in his own realm and yet Dormammu shows up and onceephisto surrenders to Dormammu and Satannish, Dormammu casually creates a mystical prison for Mephisto IN HIS OWN REALM and sticks the Hell Lord in there where he can do nothing but watch as his realm is taken over. Moreover, Dormammu is seen as such a threat by the other Hell Lords that they combine all their power for the first rime in history. Even then, rhey admit they cannot defeat Dormammu direcly because he is too powerful so instead theybhave to use rheir innate connection to their realms to change thr nature of the Hells and make it a place of freezing cold where it's very nature is antithesis of Dormammu's Flames of Regency and staying there would cause those Flames ro be constantly supressed. Dormammu decides that he couldnt be bothered with the effort it would take to continue his crusade/takeover and leaves of his own free will. Also keep in mind that this group of Hell Lords pooling their power included Pluto (Greek God of Death and the Underworld) Hela (Asgardian God of Death and the Ruler of Nifleheim), Daimon Hellstrom (when he took over from hsi father and became a fully fledged Hell Lord) and Mephisto himself. In the same story, Hellcat tells Dormammu he'd be fighting their clmbined might (she says 5 because she doesn't know Satannish is Dormammu's creation) and he isn't in the leadt bit concerned.
As for Dormammu being inferior to Shuma-Gorath, fact Dormammu has fought Shuma-Gorath twice before. Once was when he was tricked into going to Shuma-Gorath's realm after a group of interdimensional tech-beings drained and supposedly destroyed much of the magic in the multiverse and left both Shuma and Dormammu heavily weakened. Dormammu was seen fighting Shuma-Gorath during this story after he was tricked into going there and if I remember correctly, Shuma was led to believe that it was Dormammu's fault that magic was under attack so they fought. Dormammu is seen later in his realm however so either he lost and escaped or he won and left. Shuma-Gorath however is also seen is his own realm later so the conclusion of their battle is unknown.
Their second battle was a short one when Dr Strange and several Avengers were trapped in a dead dimension by Mephisto, who had manipulated events in such a way that it led to many of the other overly powerful demonic/evil entities in Marvel being trapped in the same dimension, all fighting amongst themselves so that Mephisto could go about his plans wothout the risk of other Hell Lords, Fear Lords or extra-dimensional entities getting in the way. During this story, Shuma-Gorath shows up to face the heroes with an army of his servants, only to have Dormammu show up and drive off Shuma-Gorath with a potent magical blast to his eye, causing the Great Old One to flee, blinded.
Lastly, just to bring this full circle back to the start, Dormammu himself actually invokes the powers of Cthon (calling him "Great Cthon" while invoking his power through an atrifact called the Cauldron of Cthon) in the same way Dr Dtrange calls on/invokes rhe power ofuch greater entities then himself like the Vishanti when he needs more power than just his own.
I hope this puts things into a bit of perspective.

How do you leave out the Chaos King, Amatsumikaboshi? The Chaos King slew Mephisto while casting Death out of hell. Eternity refused to take him on because he was the opposite to Eternity and another aspect of Oblivion. Even the combined might of God Hercules, Silver Surfer, and Galactus could not destroy the Chaos King. He was simply banished to a realm of nothingness to keep him content.
He would wipe most of the people on this list except perhaps Cthon and Shuma-Gorath.
Knull is an avatar of darkness, but Amatsumikaboshi is the darkness itself.

@@morningstar8129 As I previously wrote, Amatsumikaboshi is “an aspect of Oblivion;” therefore, it is part of Oblivion. This is why Eternity could not fight it, because Eternity recognized it as its opposite.

Good list, but why are some of the images used, like Mephisto (who isn't Satan), are not those of the actual characters from Marvel? Also the Humanoid Alien Queen isn't a god or ruler of darkness, she is what could happen if humans keep trying to join with them. She is nothing more than a what if, also Malekith isn't a god but a dark elf with some serious magical powers. I would have put Oblivion on this list and I'm not sure if these count as gods of darkness, but Null The Living Darkness, Lord Chaos, Nightmare, Hela, Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, and Set.
Those who sit above in Shadow were never refered to as dark Gods they are just the elder gods who feed on the cycle of Ragnarok not necessarily being evil
@@jonothangreen6600 Yeah, I wasn't sure if they would fall under dark gods. Cause they cause Ragnarok cycle to continue, after the first one so they can live off the energy released by it. So, since they're the cause of Ragnarok's continuing cycle I would say they're kinda evil.

Bruh, Malekith ain't a god in any stretch of the word, regardless of his motivations. He's on par with Odin / the Asgardians in terms of being a noted member of an ancient and powerful, yet still fundamentally mortal species. Also, Surtur is a FIRE DEMON (albeit, a hugely poweful one). How does that align him with darkness? Fire is literally light/heat. You're confusing the concept of darkness (primordial void, chaos, emptiness, oblivian etc) with the generic concept of evil.
You literally showed one of the prime candidates in your intro (Chaos King Amatsu Mikaboshi) and then failed to mention him in your list in lieu of failed entries like the ones I mentioned earlier. Come on.
Lastly, you mixed franchises with Mephisto. Every pic you showed were those of the Diablo franchise's version rather than Marvel's.
Lol you're asking how does Sutur align with darkness. He is a "Demon", you said it yourself. Not only that but Sutur literally is like Satan or Mephisto. I don't know if you were trying to say Sutur is light, but he isn't light. Other than that, I agree with your argument.
@@harryjones3274 I see what you’re saying, but I fundamentally disagree with your statement. The word demon doesn’t inherently connect a being like Surtur with a being like Mephisto. One is essentially a giant attributed with the fire element from an actual physical planet (Muspelheim is one of the nine realms, remember). I’m not saying he isn’t immensely powerful, coz he definitely is, but he’s not an extra-dimensional being on par with Mephisto, Chaos King, Ch’thon, Shuma-Gorath, etc… at least to my understanding - I’m happy to be corrected. Furthermore, he is not associated with the Marvel concept of darkness, which as previously mentioned, is the catch all term for the void/oblivion/chaos/nothingness. His modus operandi involves the physical destruction of Asgard and rule of the nine realms, if I’m not mistaken, rather than the destruction of reality and the return to primordial chaos/emptiness.
Surtur’s destructive/evil nature does NOT make him a god, nor associated with darkness. But hey, that’s just my subjective understanding on the matter. ✌️

I know you have some issue with the “demon” nomenclature, being that judeo-Christian demons are associated with darkness, evil, the devil, etc but yeah… at the end of the day, it’s just a word in my eyes. The word doesn’t denote the origin, association, nor power set. There are many “demons” per se in the Marvel universe with vastly different origins/abilities.
