Rig Rundown - The Dead Daisies' Doug Aldrich & Glenn Hughes

  • The Dead Daisies play classic rock-a catalog of songs practically etched in the granite of popular music history. When we rolled into Nashville’s Mercy Lounge during soundcheck, the band was roaring through the Deep Purple classic “Mistreated,” with Glenn Hughes hitting all the requisite high notes and Doug Aldrich laying down the song’s heavy riff. Drummer Tommy Clufetos and bassist Hughes had the groove in a headlock, and guitarist David Lowy-who leads this musical collective-was grinding out the rhythm.
After the check, we talked to legends Aldrich, of Whitesnake and Dio fame, and Hughes, whose bona fides include Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Black Country Communion, about the gear they’re using to push up Daisies, who have a new album called Holy Ground. So, get ready for gold tops, Marshalls, a killer Nash bass, and a couple stacks of Orange-flavored goodness.

Totally agree! He's a great player but his "clean sound" is massively overdriven. To my mind a player like Peter Green had a much purer, expressive sound, with real clarity and tone. 😁

The at home ones are longer and more detailed through. Soon enough, everyone will be complaining about how they're cutting the musicians off and talking over each other just like before...

@@ileutur6863 I usually watch via the embed on the website so I don't know what happens in the comments. But not every musician or tech has the sparkling wit of Devin Townsend or Justin Hawkins so keeping them in line is the interviewer's job IMNSHO. Personally, I found the at home ones were often boring - there's a big difference between "here's a bunch of gear I have" and "here's what I'm playing in 45 minutes so please hurry the hell up".

Absolutely--me too, I saw it and felt the same way---rig rundown with Doug? Damn, it's a going to be a good time! Proof that I was living under a rock, I checked out the Dead Daisies "Long Way to Go" last year and thought, Jesus who is this dude totally killing it, he even looks alot like Aldrich! Uh yeah, there's a reason...He comes across as a really nice, humble guy, I loved watching him go through his Les Paul and the rig. I put on that Whitesnake live DVD once in awhile for a full on blast of monster tone Aldrich-style. He's one of the best guitarists around no doubt!

The Dead Daisies is a great band and Doug Aldrich has an amazing sound, those Les Pauls all sound killer. I'm very happy that the rig rundowns are back, along with live shows but i wish this was done a bit better. The guy doing this should watch some John Bohlinger videos about how to do this. I wish Glenn Hughes got more than three minutes. He has a great bass sound both record and live. He is definitely one of the best bass players but i feel like it doesn't get noticed by some because he has such an amazing voice.
