Saw Glenn with Deep Purple on the Burn tour when I was very young. My dad took me. August 10th 1974? I still have the ticket somewhere. It was in the Astrodome, it was packed and Deep Purple were loud as fuck! Dio's band Elf opened, so I got to see Hughes, Coverdale and Dio all in one night. Not bad! Btw, Hughes worked the stage like a rock legend. Robert Plant has nothing on Hughes in the rock star frontman category.

I love mostly every Deep Purple lineup, but my favorite is and has always been the Mark 3 era. I love listening to both the Burn and Stormbringer albums, and all the live albums that this lineup did, especially Paris 1975 which was Ritchie Blackmore's last show with Deep Purple for almost ten years. Glenn Hughes is a phenomenal lead singer and bass guitar player and I love everything that he has done. There are some Black Sabbath fans that hate The Seventh Star album but I have always loved it and it was not suppose to be a Black Sabbath album but a Tony Iommi solo album. The record label made sure that the name Black Sabbath was on the album just to try and sell more albums because of name recognition. This was an awesome fact or fiction, and Glenn did not hold back at all.

KLF are the group who in 1992 at the Brits shot blanks at the industry crowd after performing with Extreme Noise Terror to the horror of the crowd, dumped a dead sheep at the after party and deleted their catalogue the day after. Then in 1994 the took the majority of their royalties, 1million pound and burned it. Glenn talkes very fondly about Bill and Jimmy in his book. Classy guy all the way.

Glenn Hughes is a true rock icon and deserves all the admiration. I've only seen him perform live at a "Tommy Bolin Tribute" Concert that was amazing. He also plays a mean Rickenbaker bass and for me is the best bassist/vocalist after John Wetton and Greg Lake, I'm not mentioning Chris Squire who is by far THE best bassist ever but never claimed the lead vocal title like Glenn does. the concert's highlight was "This time around" that he always has considered as his stamp song. So sad that Black Country Communion did not work out for the long run.

Love Burn album as a kid and saw the California Jam on ABC one Saturday and became a big Hughes fan. All his DP solo BCC music. He's such a talented manthat not even 1% of those in music could touch him. He should've been bigger in US.

Cali Jam Mistreated is a soulful gem.
Trapeze's Medusa deserved to be up there with Sabbath and Zep early 70 records.

Thanks for speaking with Glenn and his honesty. By the way, I was really excited to see the Seventh Star tour after the great album, and I saw that unfortunate gig at Meadowlands in NJ. We were all hoping that Glenn would stop to sing cause he was struggling terribly. Many thanks to Glenn for clearing up the story behind this.
