I MUST ADMIT I DON'T RECALL HEARING OF THIS BAND, 44 YEARS LATER THANKS TO THE INTERNET AND CZcams I AM BLESS TO LISTEN TO THESE GROUPS & ALBUMS I THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS. ALOHA FROM HAWAII..
Man, that brought a smile to my face. G'day from Australia!
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OKAY COOL
Definitely one of the best in the fascinating Brit-Folk Revival era. The Barret-era Pink Floyd influenced group kept it simple and good and turned out one of the most enduring recordings of the time.
I am a psychedelic fan but haven't known much about the music. Then I discovered this album! I've now found the sound I've been looking for, for so long! I tried early Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett but it wasn't exactly right, the Grateful Dead is too bluesy, just could never find the source of what I was searching for. Thank you so much for uploading this album! I would never have figured it all out, without this.
I love their folk feeling too. Have you discovered cool bands that sound like Forest? Have you ever listened to Comus? they're a little spookier than this but also sound like a bunch of sprites and gnomes. Cheers!
Gypsy girl & rambleaway and Graveyard are so beautiful songs that they bring tears to my eyes.
love 'graveyard' song from radio since i was young. greeting and thanks ! from a prog fan in Korea~!
"Graveyard" from radio? Who would have thought of something like this... Amazing anyhow. I always thought this LP went complelety underneath the radar of public attention/knowledge back then.
@@johbolwin5274 i agree. Of course it won't happen again these days, Graveyard was one of the popular british folk rock song at the time, and it was almost 20 years ago, There was A unique and famous art rock DJ in Korean radio, he even broadcast special program about Harvest label (60-70's) and introduced many good albums until mid 2000's. Time goes by so fast ^^
@@ator5210 Goddamn, what a nice story.
Amazing. Never heard such talent! Love Forest!!
Lol weird are names are closely matched and appreciate the same music
The song "Graveyard" which starts at 28:45 is a singular achievement in the realm of 60s/70s UK folk, right up there with the best of ISB. Thanks for posting.
znubzz188 - The Incredible String Band.
William Jackson Right. I agree to what you say about this great, specially composed unique song.
Just listened to graveyard,very nice.
Definitely agreed. It's absolutely amazing
My favorites :Gypsy Girl & Rambleaway,Do not Walk in The Rain, and Graveyard. But I love all the song🎼🎵🎶
Heaven in my ears
Simply amazing, unlike anything we have now, despite the proliferation of genres.
Just discovered this band---brilliant stuff!
This album just popped in my side bar. Glad I persevered and listened to it; track 2 really reminds me of a track from Metallica's Ride the Lightening album, and the 3rd song made me think of one of the total heroes of that time; it almost sounds like him singing, I am of course speaking about my lysergic surfing friend and Pioneer of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett. Track 4 is next, maybe they are both talking about the same Julie, lol, as in Julia Dream Boat Queen Queen of all my Dreams. Thanks for uploading.
Forest made two records of amazing wonderful music and this is classic progressive psychedelic folkrock that surpasses even the greatness of the best of Incredible String Band and Strawbs whom I love and is an easy equal to the also brilliant Moonkyte. American psych/folk can be good, but almost never even close to this good. Musical heaven!
+Benjamin Blake Mitchner I agree with you my friend. Yesternight I was thinking the same, for some reason they remind me ISB but even better. Forest are one of the best. What do you think about Fuchsia? (On a side note, The Human Beast take on ISB's Maybe Someday is brilliant!)
i saw incredible string band in concert in the 70s and they were brillant and i think they rarely captured the magic in the studio but strawbs for me were and still are folk prog rock finest but forest are a great band
Both albums are brilliant but I don't think anything can compare to Isbs lyrics
There were tons of great prog and psychedelic US bands back then, lots of them on here, too.
I completely agree, Forest mesmerizes throughout the whole record! No weak parts aywhere. Not even the ISB or Spirogyra can level this...
I did not know this band at all, but this was quite lovely. The "Famine Song" is one I knew from my childhood, taught to me by my mother from a folksong book where it was called "The Potatoes They Grow Small Over There".
Absolutely genious music, have not word explain what this album was for me and friends 45 ago...
Oh come on... Christ, the vocals are fucking horrible and the playing only slightly better... The violin sounds like a dozen cats mating... If you want to hear something truly wonderful listen to McKENDREE SPRING 3... Songs and playing to die for compared to this and an electric violin sound that reaches to the stratosphere... This is total bollocks by comparison
EnosEverything it s not about how technical theses guys are .. it s about the soul and the mood of the tracks.. this music can hardly be done today.. and it s not about the skills , it s all about the magic , man !
Ludo Chem What we talking about? This spirit now is disappeared, and then was a "rare byrd" in rock poetry and folk musick...
Ludo Chem Nothing technical about having a voice which can at least carry a tune and to have a violinist in the group who actually qualifies as a violinist.. Bob Dylan, Vic Chesnutt, Kurt Wagner, Bill Callahan just to name a few - all have pretty ordinary voices "technically speaking" but they can all emote brilliantly and infuse a song with passion and because of it are great to listen to.. This is really a chore to listen to..
Maxim Harel Do not feed the trolls buddy, these songs are awesome!
My favorite British acid folk record, especially "Bluebell Dance" (an occult ritual in a spring wilderness), "Midnight Hanging of a Runaway Serf" (dark medieval minstrel storytelling), "Gypsy Girl and Rambleaway" (those ghostly vocals at the end), "Graveyard" (macabre, pastoral, and poetic, my favorite song on the album), and "Autumn Childhood" (both a campfire celebration and haunting meditation on mortality).
Heerlijke, onschuldige muziek.
Played the vinyl to destruction. Very distinctive and compelling mood. Like a sort of landscape.
Wow! W jakże przyjemne tereny yt trafiłam :)
Just feel the colors man!! Feel the unfolding of the universal vibration
man!! Feel the effervescent layers of our existence man!!!!

Wonderful music
Really "Autumn Childhood" is the true standout on this album, not mentioned by anyone below. Haunting, dense harmonies. Try to make it to the end of the album while reviewing!
It makes me so sad for something that I never had - just so haunting.
Agreed. Incredible song.
Plainly Beautiful!
I would suggest, file under acid folk, the two first Pearls Before Swine 1967/68 records. It was an U.S.A. band led by the amazing Tom Rapp (r.i.p.).
It is not british folk influenced like this, but mesmerizing. Go for the records "O.N.U." and "Balaklava!".
You will remember me as a friend, promised!
Hermosa música, excelentes!!! Gracias!!!
Gracias por compartir...bella música
Great album
My fave band from Grimsby ! Must be in the air in that part of the east England as Amazing Blondel, same era band, who played very old sounding ruarl psychy stuff were from Scunthorpe !

White magic!
♡♡♡♡♡
So they're from Grimsby. I've been to Grimsby and it doesn't look like this sounds. A very nice listen by the way. Original vinyl copies command £300 prices, but vinyl reissues available for about £20!
Let go of your hatred: it will ultimately destroy you. Choose a path without prejudice & you will have a life with more love in it which is way better. Please don't share comments like this as it is pretty horrible for all of us folk who want to live in a world with more kindness in it. I hope you find peace
I especially love "Graveyard", seems like I'm a necrophiliac... :-)
If u like this also try the music of the (relatively) unknown British folk band Spirogyra.
Does anyone know of any live recordings of Forest, i know they went onto john peel but i have yet to find any recordings but their albums. thanks!
bacana...
Somebody haves a download link????
mexico
So guys, which is the better Forest album?
I think it may be this one by a nose!
Geoffrey Theadore Cornelius Crawford
I found this gem first, then looked for the debut record. I LOVE more this one, but also their first is good, in my humble opinion.
Geoffrey Theadore Cornelius Crawford I take the first one over this
I prefer the first one
This one has Graveyard, Gypsy Girl and Rambleaway and Famine Song, so this one. Graveyard is unbeatable, a truly superlative achievment
Matt berry brought me here
27 haters can't dream.
Does anyone know the artist that did the album art?
Original artwork by Joan Melville.
@@mikimanmogler5962 Thank you! I've seen their work on a few albums of this era and I've loved all of it!
Can anyone recommend similar albums to this with the English pastoral style?
listen to : INCREDIBLE STRINGBAND - GRYPHON - AMAZING BLONDEL etc etc

John Frusciante took so much influence from this
if these guys had gone psychedelic they could have been as good as country joe & the fish.
well incredible string band were called psychedelic, and these sound like them at times.hippie music then
Robert Ommundsen mm yeah your right and on ea listen it gets better...like incrd.string band.
17:37 sounds like Ian Anderson and Jack Black had a babee
Yes an affected voice, just on track one alone, pity because the musicanship is good
Bluebell is my least favourite but the rest I’ve listened to thousands

yucky green-gray slushy cabbage. ( apologize to cabbages).
swings & roundabouts. This kind of stuff is niche & not for everyone. Happy questing
2quundar - Maybe you overcooked it.
i apologise for finding this affected oversinging irritating
you are so right isaac.....confederate flag my ass
Sometimes irritating sometimes not, depending on song and also contains many melismas.
Don't know, don't care, Graveyard and Childhood are masterpieces
