I heard somewhere Elon said wishful thinking is a mistake he has done before.
When I was a child 60 years ago my grandfather used to tell me that one day people would be able to talk on the phone and see each other at the same time. There will come a time when people will fly to other planets as we now travel by plane. He will not be alive but we or our grandchildren will live at that time. I will not forget his words while I am alive. Elon Musk set the stage for what my grandchildren will see and travel to other worlds. Has anyone wondered why we all look at the sky?

I will never drive an autonomous car. I like to drive. I like the feeling of controlling the vehicle, changing, lanes, turning, accelerating, etc. It keeps my brain engaged as I'm travelling. Driving is not an inconvenience. It's a skill set that I enjoy.
Predictions are exactly that “predictions” don’t be convinced of anything by anyone , question everything and live by your own compass

Not sure that making ai that's smarter than us is wise, the potential for it to destroy the planet and go rogue is too much of a risk. Love listening to Elon, he has a quick mind and its very stimulating to me to hear his thoughts, more than that though he comes across as deeply sensitive and compassionate. I have so much admiration for him.

This all sounds so fantastical but at the same time how far-fetched is it ? I can pretty much do everything via point & click over the cell phone to take care my daily affairs inside of 10 minutes. This was an impossibility 30 years ago.
Technology is transformational, even more transformational than I even imagined.

When I was young in the late 1960s we believed all these amazing things would happen, like travelling to distant stars, proper robots identical to humans, no boring jobs because robots would do all the horrible work !!! So now 60 years later, we are still discussing the same thing and the only progress we have made is with computers !!! The world of Physics has turned out to be a mind bending puzzle that is impossible to comprehend. So I think it will be many hundreds of years before we even get an astronaut to Mars . The moons of Jupiter will be bombarded with radiation from the planet so we won't be going there !!!! I think we will find more efficient ways of fighting wars against each other !!!

Gonna need to have to keep our power sources on hardline pc controls or at least no ability to be controlled. Like at the power plant the controls to valves are all controlled directly with no internet connections. I'm sure it has been getting more secure since the last I got to see for myself.

Next Gen AI, the emerging is quite dangerous, very much agreed. # 1 rated project that I achieved during my grad school trajectory. Definitely will be having a full video on AI.
My prediction is;If cars get autonomous, then probably the majority of death cases won't be drunk'n'drive. But with gliches or may be later updates in the system's software.
Combine wide AI with deep space exploration, and the most aggressive space drives, with low/no gravity manufacturing.
The manufacturing aspect is what will slow things down. It takes too much to launch from earth.

I think what we have to work on right now to have any kind of meaningful future, with or without AI, is the preservation of our humanity. Because if we lose our 'human-ness' to ever increasing technology, the rest of it won't matter a damn.

Automobiles with full autonomy is really really cool. With that being said, as a human being it's really really cool to have control over an automobile while driving it too. Moving forward with technology is wonderful but being able to still do the things we love from the past is wonderful too.
Agree but there will be a time when very few ppl out of many will choose to have control over their automobile. Many will get succumb to technology. As an example if my vehicle can drive me itself after a very tiring day at work I will not say No to it. This is where acceptance become greater than reminiscent and eventually reminiscent becomes non-existent

I think a real step if retrofitting existing cars to be autonomous .
AI in the wrong hands ,would most definitely create a Pandora 's box,therefore,this technology needs safeguards, a moral code that does not cross certain lines,or abuse of its power over humanity.THAT,is the biggest issue.

This is why I've always said as a Software Engineer ... we need more and more developers ,We need an army of software developers in the numbers ratio as Walmart,McDonalds and Starbucks employees.
Facts! I've always loved automation and stability. That's why I love the idea of automated cars, flying taxis concepts and rockets that can automatically land back after launch to be reused. Everything would be so beautiful, so coordinated, so much more efficient and cheaper. No more traffic jams, no more crashes, incredibly cheap and safe space flight, quick travelling from building to building ( if the taxi drones became a real thing. The concept was for them to have a landing pad where they recharge on top of buildings, and then they would automatically fly to another building) . So much stuff changed in the last 10 years, even more in the last 20 , and we are only advancing faster and faster. 50 years ago, it was hard to even dream of having a computer for yourself, let alone being able to take it in your hands, put it in your backpack, and watch almost life-like videos on it, see other people, talk through it, record.. Now we have laptops. We have portable high quality cameras through which we can speak and message other people, watch multimedia and listen to music, or even play video games that weren't able to run even on the strongest computer on the planet. That's ONLY 50 years, hell, even less than 50 actually! Even 30 years ago, that would be pretty crazy to think about. And we are only getting faster.. I want to see the future, and I'm so excited
I'm a taxi driver and everyday I pick up passengers that can't get in or out of a car without human assistance. What's going to happen to the thousands of people that can't use autonomous vehicles but still want to travel.
Easy. Create special modified taxis for those who need them.
For instance, remove the standard door with an automated sliding door.
Have the seat slide outside and back in if needed.
I could think of those 2 modifications in literally 5 seconds.
I'm sure an actual car designer with the proper feedback could do even a lot better.
Dont think in problems.
Think in solutions.
There is very few things in life that are truly impossible.

I was discussing this topic to my lecturers too, and i agree 100%. In short term AI would change the things that is hard or needs a lot of effort to do, but super intelligence is invented to change even humans and i'm afraid there will not be a place for us. 😵

If the rare earth hypothesis is true, then there is plenty of good unoccupied real estate in the galaxy. There are likely younger earth analog planets which only have unicellular organisms on them.
General artificial intelligence with self awareness would be an extremely difficult to accomplish.. We still don’t understand what consciousness is.

That's the only thing which seems crazy to me. Not being pessimistic, but I'm not very sure about humans reaching another star other than dear old sun. Probes might, someday, definitely not in this century. But "humans"? Maybe never. Unless...... Wormholes come into the picture😂😮
