Funny how many people focus on beauty watching this performance; they were and still are one of the greatest band of the last 30 years, and Damon Albarn is a music genius and one of the best singer songwriter and producer alive.
True that. I mean, I'm still madly in love with his looks, but seriously I have such a deep respect for him as an artist...the range and thoughtfulness of his works is incredible. And just the Blur discography is a universe in itself, so rich and varied...there's a reason why I never get tired of listening to them
My favorite part is during the interview once Damon hears it's the producer's birthday, he starts playing happy birthday, and when he's told to stop he still plays it anyway. That's why I love Blur.
I was totally obsessed with blur and especially Graham when I was about 11-15 and I think that did me a lot of good in terms of looking up to a very non toxic version of masculinety. Also learning guitar! My first guitar I saved up for a whole year was a blonde telecaster
How is there any less compression? This is 1995. The audio would have been digitally recorded at the time, then dubbed onto a vhs tape by the looks of things, then ripped onto a computer and uploaded to youtube with 128kbps audio. This isn't the mastertape of Dark Side Of The Moon.
Ahhh this makes me so happy. Blur are fantastic, since you liked these songs you can check out the album they come from, called The Great Escape. It's a really good album even though I don't think it's one of their best. Parklife is probably my favourite, but it changes a lot depending on the mood...their discography is incredibly varied and you can find all sorts of things even within an album! So I don't really know what to suggest, if you'd like to tell me what kind of music you're mostly into or interested in I'm happy to help :) Also, yeah, Damon Albarn is one fine looking man...

I was 15, still one of my favorite bands, ever. These guys had two of the best music bands of the 90s at the same fkin time. Gorillaz is amazing too. This man is so talented and underated.
To be as young as they were at the time and express this absolutely incredible level of musicianship is a testament to not only the gifts they were born with but the hard work they put in to it. 🎼🎸🎶🥁🎵❤️✨
Even though I've been a Gorillaz fan for quite some years, I've only discovered Blur recently and it's simply amazing, seeing younger Damon is so mesmerizing and fresh to me.
I remember sitting really close to the TV set when they aired this, so I could push record on my VHS machine every time Blur was on that night. Sweet times, I was so happy to hear He Thought of Cars LIVE!! Still am :D
I can't. I'm 21 years old, I born in 2000. I'm sure that if I were from those years I would be crazy for Damon. But not only just because he's fucking handsome, he really was very talented.
I honestly like Blur more than Gorillaz. We can just hear Damon (or Graham) instead of collaborators getting in the way. Nothing wrong with collaborators, but it’s good to hear one band doing one song. Just them.
But you have also many gorillaz songs without guests, like Melancholy Hill, Broken, Tomorrow Comes Today, Kids With Guns, Amarillo, Revolving Doors, Magic City, Tranz, Last Living Souls, 4/5, etc... I understand what you're trying to say but looks like you're resuming the project to just collaborations what would be wrong (although the last album have this premiss of only having tracks with guests)
I also prefer Blur over Gorillaz but Gorillaz have amazing songs as well with or without collabs. For instance: El mañana, Clint Eastwood, feel good Inc, on melancholy hill, Aries and many others

At the time I couldn't stand Oasis or Blur (I like Blur now and am an Oasis die hard) I was miserable in the corner listening to The Bends, but I remember watching the original broadcast and thinking 'He Thought Of Cars' was an amazing song, it must have been because the melancholy of it was at odds with the celebratory Britpop vibe of the time

He Thought of Cars was a revelation for the time. It's probably Blur's most mature song on The Great Escape.
