One of my favorites. I love Neal's guitar with the orchestra. This song was nominated for a Grammy. Not too long before Journey made this album, Steve had taken a break from Journey for about 6 years or so. He said he was toast due to the extensive touring schedule, and he stopped listening to music and even stopped singing in the shower. People were saying that he had lost his voice, but what he had really lost was his love for the music. It slowly started to come back and he came out with the solo album, For the Love of Strange Medicine and then toured with it. Then he and Journey got back together and made the album Trial by Fire that this song, When You Love a Woman, was on. Journey never toured with this album because when Steve was getting in shape for the tour, he fractured his hip while hiking in Hawaii. He took a little too long for the rest of the band to decide about getting hip replacement surgery, so after over a year, the band replaced him and Steve lost his passion for music all over again. It was over 20 years later in 2018 that he came out with his latest solo album, Traces.

YES! Been waiting to see you hear this song! Perry’s voice; “Lovin” was his first album with Journey. Nice, clean vocal cords. Journey was the hardest working and touring band of the 80’s. They toured and recorded for 9 years straight! What you are hearing are vocal cords that are well seasoned. Isn’t it amazing the things we don’t think about!

I admit the blouse comment was funny but wait 20 years and we will all be looking back at today's style and asking what were we think8ng. Journey's manager overbooked them back in the day IMHO and vocal cords can only take so much and you can't replace them like a guitar. This was a lovely song however you look at it. Steve Smith the drummer is one of the best in the business today. As for the less polite comments, this is your channel and your personal journey so ignore the naysayers and keep on exploring. I'm an older generation and get a kick out of seeing you young folk discovering great music.

Steve could come out in gunny-sack and sing the phone book or dictionary and would still be and sound sexy!
Now if you want to clown on someone’s clothes (only because he can sing with the best of them) is Steven Tyler, front man of Aerosmith. Dude is hilarious in the song “Dude Looks Like A Lady.” Check out “Dream On” and any of their hit songs (there’s tons!) They did the sound track for the movie “Armageddon.” Love, love, LOVE Steven Tyler! He is a genious lyricist and admits to having LSD - Lead Singer Disease 🤪

I forgot to talk about Steve and Journey. He is a natural. He is very aware of what his voice can do and he does that. I saw a vocal coach talk about this, and the change in time of some of his vocal sounds. There was a point in there that they decided to try to have Steve sound more gritty and he struggled with it and strained his voice to do it. He gave examples of the differences in certain songs. Still sounded great but it was more difficult. Just a little Terri advice, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Or in this case change it. These guys were off the charts popular as his voice was, when you have a signature sound, go with it. Especially if what you change strains your voice? Just my opinion. ❤️

This is the last album they did with Steve. Towards the end he couldn’t hit those high notes anymore. After ten years of touring it took a toll on his vocal cords. Even though he couldn’t hit those really high notes his voice still remained flawless and clear. Steve will forever set the record high for other performers to ever match his singing voice. Steve will always be known as the Voice!

@@jamesb.9472 Yes that was a part of it too. If you had listened to his interviews he said he had to quit to keep what sanity he had left. He was basically burned out. He regrets being on the road when his mom was dying and he was really hurt by that. It was a cumulation of many things as to why he left the bad. And if you listen to his album Traces he released almost two years ago you can hear he can’t hit the high notes anymore. Can he still sing, yes. Will he sing like he did when he joined Journey, no. He will always be an icon in the music world.

@@jamesb.9472 Yes he does, I never said he didn’t. Us die hard Perry fans are hoping he releases another album. If he doesn’t I’m ok with that. I think he was fulfilling Kelly’s wish to sing once again for his fans and he did. At 72 I think he has done an awesome job giving us many years of his talent and time to last many generations to come. I have been a fan since the first time when he came to Florida in concert and I was 20 at the time. Today at 62, I still listen to him everyday.

When you DO find the right woman, YES, it IS a joy that lasts FOREVER. ....and it's not the 'band of gold' that shines, it's the love shared between a husband and a wife.
I NEVER had that joy with my ex-wife. We were never each other's best friend. We married young. Had two sons. We were stupid and tried too hard at forcing the relationship to last. Or, didn't try hard enough. Either way, after finding out about her SECOND affair, I wasn't strong enough to forgive -- again. During our separation I found out about a THIRD affair and that's when I knew there was ZERO hope of reconciliation. Divorce was certain. I told her I'd never volunteer to tell my sons about her infidelity, but that I'd never lie to them if they asked. She spent the nine years we were married accusing me of cheating on her -- WITHOUT PROOF, mind you -- even though I never gave her any reason to doubt me. Her so-called "friends" convinced her I was based solely on the fact I work for the local phone company.
Sorry, that got a little long-winded..
But, God gave me another chance at happiness and has blessed me with the love of my life !! We dated for four years before I popped the question. Why?? Because I wanted her to be my BEST FRIEND. I put a shiny 'band of gold' on her finger, gave birth to a beautiful daughter, and 20 years later (this coming June) she's STILL my favorite subject to talk about.
Yes, true love DOES exist. It is very real. But, it doesn't take 50%-50% to make a relationship work. It takes 110%-110% effort.
Remember: to DO the little things, notice the little things, and learn to not turn little things into big things. DON'T go to bed angry. Learn to apologize with humility, and FORGIVE with grace. Treat your spouse like a best friend should be treated. DO NOT let pride cause a rift. Feelings are REAL, and words DO cut to the heart. Watch your mouth!!! Once something is said, it cannot be "unsaid". It's only damage control after that. You may be technically right, but the moment you get it off your chest, you've just bruised the heart. You may have won the argument, but just LOST the battle.
To many of you that are reading this, I'm speaking to the choir. You know what I'm saying. But, to the others, you've probably never heard, or tried, these words.
Life is a journey (no pun intended). When you share that journey equally with your husband or wife, the level of love and intimacy just goes through the roof!
Don't be afraid to hold her hand in public. Stop her for no reason and give her kiss. Tell her you LOVE her, and mean it. Send her love notes, or texts, out of the blue. Tell her you just had a memory of you two together somewhere and you were just thinking about her.
And, most importantly, your husband/wife takes precedence OVER you friends. He/she is #1, NOT #2. Remember your vows (...to forsake ALL others....).
And lastly, MEN -- DO NOT COMPARE YOUR WIFE TO YOUR MOTHER. EVER!!
Love God first. Love your husband/wife next. Love your children. Love your family. Love your friends. Love your country......and everything will be OK.

Awesome reaction! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE react to my favorite Journey performance “Mother, Father” live from Houston 1981. In my opinion it’s the entire band’s best live performance ever! Each member showcasing their individual talents, that come together to tell a meaningful, powerful story about love rising above the perils of a broken home. It’ll blow your mind!
