    All in all an excellent mini-documentary. Accompanied by an extremely haunting soundtrack ... Well done.

    Thank you for sharing your video, the best factual account I’ve seen. I grew up in Dundee for 20 years and often heard of the disaster but your commentary brought it all home. Your photographs and diagrams were very helpful.

    Excellent job on a self-produced documentary. More people should be courageous enough to "go for it" and produce these tidbits of history. They add vitality and allow missing voices to be heard. Congratulations to you, sir! God bless! :)

    So many problems. Faulty workmanship, speeding trains, not to mention that trains should never have been allowed to cross the bridge under such high winds.

    Thanks a lot for posting this in public. We spent our spring holiday in Scotland, and it was very impressive to see this (2nd) bridge. It was very impressive to me as well to see these pictures and to listen to the words of the narrator.
    I love Britain's Railways with all their great lines embedded in the rough landscapes and hope to be welcome on Britain's tracks again.
    Greetings from a german train driver!
    PS: Do you have a job for a train driver thinking about moving to Britain? ;-)

    Excellent video on a subject I knew nothing about. It is well done and informative. I am from Florida and I love bridges and railroads. I have been to Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth bridge a couple of decades ago but didn't know about the Tay Bridge at the time. Now I wish I had.

    Very nice video. I'm a yank, but I have relatives who (I believe) are from that area. Cupar? St. Andrews? I guess those are near there, I don't know. Once again, a very enjoyable video. Thanks for posting it.

    Good film. I went to DIT (university of Abertay) and have worked for the last few years in Dundee. I've always been fascinated with the disaster. Your film is an excellent account of events.
    A few things continue to intrigue me however, what became of "the Diver" and is it true parts of the old bridge were used in construction of the new?

    The more up to date books on the disaster have the number of dead as 59 and not 75 as originally thought. Nice little film, though.

    I'd ask why wouldn't it collapse? The engineer never considered the extreme wind on the Tay, and the iron parts were poor quality.

    None of this would have mattered if the North British hadn't chosen to run trains on the night of the storm. All that would have been lost was money. The story has parallels with the disaster to the R101 airship, that should have turned back when the weather worsened.

    • @johnclayden1670
      @johnclayden1670 Před 6 lety

      Ye, R101, the effort by the State. R100 was its private competitor.

      Faulty design, substandard materials, it was just a matter of time, not a matter of weather. Friggin' penny pinching pricks just keep making stuff cheaper to increase their own profits, and then figure it will be someone else's problem when it breaks. Still goes on today. Watch the assorted engineering disasters videos. Nothing has changed.

    This video is terrible, such a shame. It's poorly edited, the sound is awful as it keeps fading in loud and quiet. The flickering of the images just makes it look cheap. Big disappointment.
