This race needs to come back. we don't need a double header at Detroit (even though that is a good race) we don't need three races at Indianapolis. This track needs to come back
When I see these cars ... the memory of the Papyrus game comes to mind, with the official narration saying: "I'm Paul Page, this is IndyCar Racing 2 is from Papyrus", or something like that ...
No graphics, only problem with this race, everything else was fantastic. Those last laps were bloody amazing. 👏 Cleveland certainly had its fair share of great races.
*Road Course RACE, sorry. And America didn't even get to see a quarter of the race due to John Daly and St. Andrews and the British Open and all that mess. Just like at the 2000 Michigan 500, only replace "John Daly" with "Tiger Woods".
It's been 10 years since the final running of a race in Cleveland, I'd love nothing more than to see this race return, especially with new chassis on the way!
I've seen that clip of Villeneuve and Gordon outbraking each other onto the grass a few times but I didn't realize that the rest of the race was equally wild. Hopefully, IndyCar gets back there soon.
+HybridsRacing had to look it up, yeah, it's a good one, although by today's standards, I probably would not have used it (helmet almost out of focus), but on film, you only shot so many frames, as it cost hundred of $$$ each weekend to do this. I gotta use these slow winter months and put some 1999 stuff on Flickr, scanned fresh and nicer than back in the day. so far I only have Fontana and Laguna online there, and one image from Mid Ohio 99 (rain shot of Memo). Scroll down the albums list to the bottom of the page where CART stuff beginswww.flickr.com/photos/26807139@N04/albums
I've got a players pit crew jacket still. It was sh*tty when the government removed all cigarette advertising from the world. Everyone lost their sponsors after that. Players. Lucky strike. Camel. Marlboro. Bensen&Hedges. Winfields. Etc etc.
This was the only road course I liked in the cart series. So wide open and could pass anywhere and everywhere. All the other road courses were a nightmare.
I always liked Teo Fabi. He was a good enough driver to have won at least one Champ Car title. He came close once but just never could get over the hump. This 95 season he was always near the front. Never really got a top ride in F1 either. Could have won there also. Still a great talent though.
He had no chance when driving for Toleman, but In 84, he got a seat at Brabham and Piquet had much better results them him. He then joined Benetton F1 and was outpaced by the less experienced Berger throughout the season. The year after, he did again not manage to beat his teammate, although it was closer that time. Formula One has always been a tough business and drivers who repeatedly can not defeat their teammates lose their cockpit..
Gil De Ferran 🇧🇷 (Jim Hall team) on pole position,🏁 race start 5 mins 40 secs. Cleveland ✈️ airport, fantastic idea for a racing circuit. Penske, Ganassi, Walker Newman/Hass cars look great. Robbie Gordon 😡 entertaining to watch, great race, lots of battles through the field. Indycar series thanks for the upload.👌
+Quintinohthree I can tell you that the Cleveland based Sherwin-Williams paint company was interested in bringing the race back. They decided to become the 'official paint of the 100th Indy 500' and put their money there. The Republican National Convention also complicated matters as far as the local officials were concerned.
@@racingman3000 ok I’ll add paranoia Rhys to the meta now, smh I can’t even watch this race for peculiar helmet designs while I’m waiting for the uni year to start
+Jake Takahashi I think he's referring to Bobby Unser not in the ABC broadcasting booth with Sam Posey and Paul Page. (Hence Lyn St. James filling in for Bobby)
Scott Pruett was a disonest pilot and bad character. He spent the last laps defending Andretti's leadership and when Gil was going to take the lead he knocked on purpose. Fortunately, the story did justice to Gil and Pruett fell by the wayside.
Video is 8 years old and the race 28 years old but......Mr. Ribero, if you read this, you were supposed to be side by side. You chopped down on the other car and got what you deserved.
Bring back Cleveland!!
Thank you for remembering your fans in Cleveland!! If you need a place to race, you are always welcomed back with open arms!!
+Secundra Beasley Cleveland would be epic with the DW12
We went up there in 99 from Cincinnati. Man, those storms literally come rolling quickly off the lake!
This race needs to come back. we don't need a double header at Detroit (even though that is a good race) we don't need three races at Indianapolis. This track needs to come back
Bring this race back in place of one of the Indy road course races, probably the 2nd one.
I cannot believe how insane that race ended up being. I've been watching the season through and each race has been fantastic, but this one, wow!
Listen to those names, the quality of the field is staggering.
OMG the finale collage was PERFECT.
The 90's really were the Golden Age of just about everything.
What an epic Intro to kick off this wildest race of the 1995 Indycar season.
Yes! Intros should be this creative!
Wonderfully silly, funny and creative. I love it.
We need this track back!
love the look of these cars
My Word! What a great era! Great Cars! Great track! Great drivers! Great coverage! I must say this is the high point in Indycar!
Not only indy...
When I see these cars ... the memory of the Papyrus game comes to mind, with the official narration saying: "I'm Paul Page, this is IndyCar Racing 2 is from Papyrus", or something like that ...
Beautiful cars!
Mike Harris seriously, not a bad angle on those cars. Love the liveries, too. Players, valvoline, Marlboro, Pennzoil -- just gorgeous.
No graphics, only problem with this race, everything else was fantastic. Those last laps were bloody amazing. 👏 Cleveland certainly had its fair share of great races.
Probably the greatest road course race in AOWR history.
*Road Course RACE, sorry. And America didn't even get to see a quarter of the race due to John Daly and St. Andrews and the British Open and all that mess. Just like at the 2000 Michigan 500, only replace "John Daly" with "Tiger Woods".
I miss those days, everything feels like shit today, racing and life...
If you thought this in 2015, my god what do you think about the world now?
@@duncanl249 took the words right out of my mouth ..

automobilista 2 just dropped a virtual version with these cars...very very cool
I've seen that clip of Villeneuve and Gordon outbraking each other onto the grass a few times but I didn't realize that the rest of the race was equally wild. Hopefully, IndyCar gets back there soon.
Great race, great track, great drivers! Man, I miss this era!
I was there, what a crazy race it was. Good old days.
+Peter Burke You're the guy with the awesome pics!
+Peter Burke That front shot of JPM at Mid-Ohio 1999 was one of my favorite 1999 pics.

The player's color car is Villeneuve! Nostalgic!
I've got a players pit crew jacket still. It was sh*tty when the government removed all cigarette advertising from the world. Everyone lost their sponsors after that. Players. Lucky strike. Camel. Marlboro. Bensen&Hedges. Winfields. Etc etc.
Best intro ever
Epic ending! Thanx for the upload!
One of my favorite tracks, a truly unique circuit
Thanks for permit to see again so fantastic races form 80's and 90'sSooo fantastic
i'm here because of GPlaps.
I love the Quality of the Video ! Amazing ! Thanks for the upload.
This was the only road course I liked in the cart series. So wide open and could pass anywhere and everywhere. All the other road courses were a nightmare.
Thanks for uploading a race from Cleveland. I lived there and went to the airport when they raced
like how they talk, but there's no graphic to look at.
great race though, last 10 laps always at the edge of my seat
Awesome videos from 90's. keep`em coming!
It's weird... Certain graphics channels are missing...
First 5 minutes alone... Missing title slide and the starting line up graphics.
Another classic race, awesome!
Great quality! Thanks!
I remember the Cleveland race I always loved watching this

Better than current f1...
And old F1. CART had it all.
Thanks to GPLaps, I got recommended this now
Great upload. Thanks Indycar.
Arguably the best intro in the history of televised motoring lol !

I would happily drive over from Chicagoland to spectate if indycar returned to Burke lakefront airport!
Interesting how some of the graphics are absent; like the pics of the starting lineup.
“Leading the race, only one lap, the last lap is a much better feeling.” - Alonso 2005
Awesome !
Seems like awesome quality video source material, so please do it justice and upload it again with a deinterlacer applied.
Bring. Back. Cleveland.
This series was way cooler than F1

Am I mistaken or is the circuit an old military base ? Looks great tho 🤗
Who are the famous commentators here? I recognise their voices on a lot of Indycar videos from that era.
that was a hectic one!
MORE CART!!!
Anyone know about rumours to get Cleveland back on the schedule come 2017?
+Quintinohthree

R.I.P. George Wendel. 😢
Agreed. The most influential person in the history of television that nobody talks about. :'(
The last thing i expected was to see Nicholas Cage in this video.
rare rhys comment spotted
Why do you keep following me?
@@racingman3000 yes rhys because i clearly actively searched for this comment

I can see why Penske fired Paul Tracy.
They HIRED him (again) after this lol.
Where's the starting grid presentation?
André de Souza the music of starting on grid is:
"Dieter Reith - Hard And Tough".
5:45 race start
1:00:23 first yellow flag
1:05:05 second green flag
1:17:10 end of the race
thanks indy! f1 should learn from indy
Also, does anybody know why Bobby Unser wasn't at this race?
+Randy Dubin Bobby Unser retired from racing in the '80s. As for why he wasn't broadcasting, I don't know about that
+Jake Takahashi I think he's referring to Bobby Unser not in the ABC broadcasting booth with Sam Posey and Paul Page. (Hence Lyn St. James filling in for Bobby)
I'd never seen Lyn St. James out of her driving suit. She is a cutie.
robby gordon what a menace lol
Bring back ontario motor speedway, riverside international raceway, or heck bring back fontana California speedway :)
The first two were demolished decades ago and Fontana was on the schedule just a few years ago
Race starts at 5:44
Greetings from 2024. Our cars suck. 30 year old Indycars look, sound, and speed is far more impressive than what we have now.
