I am an italian sommellier, and i am shocked (positivley of course) for your very hight quality choiches of italian white wines. Marisa Cuomo Fiorduva, in particular, is unkown out of Italy (and widely also in Italy...) and, in my opinion, is one of the greatests white wines in the world! Complimenti!!
Grazie mille! Very glad you enjoyed the selections! Appreciate the kind feedback.
Amazing video. This video came at the perfect time for the summer months thank you so much
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it! Was definitely thinking about timing when I published it. Thanks for the positive feedback! Cheers!

Just recently tried Arneis in Piedmont a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I’ve been looking for it at my local wine shops. Good content!
Thank you! Very glad to hear it! 👍🍷
Love it. This gives me quite a bit to look into today.
Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it! Hope you enjoy the wines as much as I do.
Thank you for recommending Soave Classico to people. It is a very great wine that is a little similar to Gruner in that it can have a white pepper note.
My pleasure! There are definitely some excellent expressions and I was happy to include it in this video. Thanks for watching and the kind feedback. Cheers!
I have stocked up on the 2020 Foscarino by Inama already and so should everyone else. It’s a gem 💎
Very glad to hear it! Completely agree. Thank you.
Great work and excellent video. All my favorite places for Italian white are mentioned. I got a Erbaluce di Caluso at my last wine tasting which impressed me a lot and it is an area I will look into further.
Cheers from Denmark 🍷
Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like an excellent wine. I’ll keep an eye out for it. Cheers!
Great video and this is the first time I’ve had all the ones in the video. 😁😁. My IWS course exposed me to a lot of grapes. There is so much to explore from Italy.
Thank you! You’ve tasted Italy extensively! Completely agree with you. So many outstanding indigenous grapes in Italy. 👍🍷
Currently enjoying this video! I’ve enjoyed a lot of white wine in Italy, but I only occasionally drink Italian white in my home country. Perhaps because the choices we have here aren’t good. I do remember enjoying white wine in the towns of Amalfi Coast, in Cinque Terre, and recently in Piemonte. Yes, I had Arneis in Piemonte! Very nice! I will continue watching your video and comment again later.😁 Excellent content, as always!👏👏
Merci beaucoup Margaux! Glad you are enjoying it! Yes Arneis is terrific! Appreciate the support, as always! Santé!
@@AttorneySomm You’re welcome, John! Interesting, outstanding content, as always!
Excellent list. Lots of those (Villa Bucci, Terlan Vorberg, Inama Vigneti di Foscarino, Marisa Cuomo Fiorduva) are a fixed part of my cellar as well. I need to give a try to the Roero Arneis of Bruno Giacosa. I keep the one from Vietti in my cellar
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoy many of these wines too. Hope you enjoy the Giacosa!
Excellent video! Italian whites have a LOT of bang for the buck. You mentioned several that I’ve not tried yet so thanks for that, it’s always good to hear your new recommendations. 👍. I sent this to two of my friends as well.
Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it! Definitely some excellent QPR! Hope you enjoy the wines! Appreciate the support! 👍🍷
It never ceases to amaze me hearing of so many wines for the first time (especially Italian wines since I've been there 5 times). The hunt is on!
PS: No love for Cortese di Gavi?
Thanks! Yes, so many unique, indigenous grapes in Italy. I do enjoy Cortese di Gavi as well and would certainly encourage people to try that as well. I just went with Arneis from Piedmont for this video. Happy hunting!
I’m impressed of your wonderful Italian pronunciation, the way you master the regions and the fascinating way you describe each of this delicious white wines. To learn about these Italian grapes, the amazing Italian producers and the incredible prices is a real gift John. Thank you so much!! Santé🍷
Grazie mille, Gabriela! I’ve been working hard on my pronunciations!
@@AttorneySomm Prego John! Il mio piacere!! You work amazingly great in everything you do! Bravo!
I found that Italian whites wines can be difficult to navigate when new to wine, but the exploration has been worth it. I love the Giacosa Arneis, and have long enjoyed several other categories you mentioned. I’ve got a Verdicchio di Matellica ready to open tomorrow. Vinous had a nice feature on Marché a few months ago which put me on those. Still, there were a few that are new to me, plus I always enjoy the specific producer recommendations. Thanks for sharing our knowledge and experience.
Thanks very much! Glad that you are enjoying Italian whites as well. So many under-the-radar wines that are excellent and reasonably-priced and also pair well with food. Hope you enjoy the Verdicchio!
Excellent theme; so many hidden gems among the Italian whites and as you say: often really good qpr! Have to look up the Costa Amalfi one 🙏🏼🥂
If you ever would get your hands on a Querciabella Batar - drink it! It’s the best Italian I’ve had so far.
Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it! Hope that you can track down the Fiorduva. Appreciate the tip! I’ll keep an eye out for it. 👍🍷
Great list ! Classic style Italian grapes are often fruit driven and fresh! I personally enjoy the friulano white wines made to cellar ! Cheers !
Cheers! Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind feedback! Friulano is excellent too.
Thanks as always. Was wondering if you’d include wines from Mt Etna - what thoughts?
Thank you! I very much enjoy the reds from Mt. Etna, but need to try more of the whites. I could easily do a follow-up. Just remembered I enjoyed one from Sicily very much too.
Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis founded in my área Great
Grazie mille! Completely agree with you. A terrific wine!
John you rule👍🏻👌🏼🥂
Thank you, my friend! Cheers!
@@AttorneySomm Next destination Athens 😀
@@hxl6162 Excellent! Keep an eye out for Assyrtiko! Perfect with seafood.
Got a ~20 dollar suggestion: Luigi Maffini: Kràtos Fiano 2020. Citrus, some minerality, dry almost off dry, overall could be better but pretty solid value wise imo. Granted I have a poor man’s pallet so take that with a grain of salt.
Thanks for weighing in! Definitely sounds like an excellent value. I definitely enjoy Fiano too. Cheers!
Pretty list, don't know if find them in my area. Will try Bruno and Vietti at list.
Thanks! Most of these are widely available. The Arneis should be for sure. Cheers!
I lived in Le Marche and never took to Verdichio. The closest we got to true love is the cheaper ones are sold in cantinas by the liter, and I could fill my water bottle up for a price that was cheaper than water!
Yes, these recommendations are wine-specific and not necessarily generalizations. It is very affordable!
Another good video, John. Verdicchio and Arneis are favourites of mine but I have little regard for Soave: too much bland rubbish for my liking; even Pieropan is not great value, imho. Soave is a lovely town, though.
I usually like your flavour descriptions but what's 'Wet rock,' all about? Does it have a taste - never tried such a thing myself?
Thanks for weighing in! Glad you enjoy the Arneis & Verdicchio. I use that wet rock descriptor for minerality. Somewhat similar to chalk for Chablis.
@@AttorneySomm Still don't get it - same with chalk, for that matter. I must admit that over the nearly 50 years I have been interested in the subject, quite a few wine tasting terms leave me baffled: elegant; gunflint; refined; etc. Perhaps my palate is not sufficiently sensitive or educated. Words I can relate to are things I have tasted or smelt (tar and roses for Barolo, for example) and adjectives such as: voluptuous; rich; long; complex; balanced; harsh; smooth.
As someone once said in another context, 'Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.' In other words, trying to describe taste and smell in words is difficult. I sort of get the minerality reference with (especially young) Chablis, although it is still a bit vague, and definitely the smoky description of Pouilly Fumé.
Anyway, I am sure others here will understand your terms; perhaps formal training helps. I have just tried to describe to myself the Austrian riesling I have in my glass right now and this is as far as I have got: citrus; melon; gooseberry; something else on the nose I can't identify; medium length; refreshing; fairly light but with some complexity - very pleasant aperitif. I won't bore you with the Chateauneuf I started last night and will finish tonight but you get the idea.
Sorry for the ramble but thank you for provoking these thoughts, John.
@@stevenholt4936 Thanks very much! Yes, I agree that describing a wine can be elusive and is also very subjective. Wet rock is a permitted descriptor in the WSET tasting chart, so based on my training, I tend to use it whenever I sense minerality in a wine. Sounds like an enjoyable Austrian Riesling!
Hi John, have you tried Gaja Rossj-Bass yet? I have one, I put some money, is it worth it? Not on your list.
Yes, I have had it and do enjoy it. That one is primarily Chardonnay with a little Sauvignon Blanc, and for this video I was trying to focus on wines from indigenous Italian grapes that were more under the radar. Cheers!
Really, you said that! Pretty wines choice!
@@VictorGadelhaProd Thank you! Very glad you liked the selections.
Vie di Romans is the best white wine producer in Italy IMHO.
Thanks for weighing in. Cheers!
@@AttorneySommHave you tried any of their wine?
You won’t find them in Dallas.

My Italian wine knowledge is very little…
Hopefully these videos will help! I've done several that could give you a head start for level 3. These wines are excellent and offer compelling value, certainly relative to many wines of comparable quality from more well-publicized areas.
@@AttorneySomm
I need to go to shop and start buying varietals so I can experience them and learn
Agree with most of your assessment s. I enjoy northern Italy whites. One underrated wine is the Turbiana grape specifically from Lugana Doc. - Monte Del fra.
@@adrianserge6510 Thanks very much! And I appreciate the addition. I’ll have to try it.
I paid $60 in a store for the Giacosa wine.
It’s at wine dot com for $33 currently.
