Of academic interest only for me, John but interesting nonetheless. I might search for a 25 y.o. Gaja but it is likely, even if I could source one, to be way outside my budget. I have some '13 and '18 Barbarescos (but not Gaja, alas) which will have to do the job.

Thank you, Steven. This is one that we often chip in to try with some age. Prices are definitely heading north, but the older vintages are absolutely the way to go both due to cost and because they are more ready to enjoy.

Much more fore their Elegance and I'm quite sure that the experience of the aromas as well is very good isn't it?

Great question! That was Roberto Voerzio's glass and I cannot not see the brand on my pictures, but believe it is the Zweisel Pinot Noir glass. That one is at least strikingly similar. Great video! Definitely gave me some options to consider. I enjoy Barolo, but I find myself enjoying Barbaresco as much or more much of the time. Perhaps because it’s a little more forgiving, and a better value at its price points as you mentioned. Completely agree with the flagship Produttori as one of the greatest values in the world, at least when I could find it for $35 a few years ago. I’ve shared these wines with several friends who really took to it. One in particular visited every local wine shop and bought all he could before I had bought what I had hoped to obtain! I guess the moral of the story is get what you want before letting the secret out? Or maybe a better lesson would be to tap the knowledge of friends’ to find new favorites. I’ll try to be optimistic and go with the latter!

I'm planning on doing Level 4 here in NYC, and I'd like to combine it with wine travel so that I could get a more hands-on approach to what I'm studying, a sort of experiential learning. Would you recommend I do that before the Wines of the World D3 section?

Up in the Finger Lakes recently I went with a Cabernet Franc by N. Kendall that the owner of a local bottle shop up there recommended. I had thought that a cool climate region would only have good whites. But then I ended up being impressed with that one. Apparently they say some wineries on the eastern end of the lakes get more sun and moderating breezes.

Italy is rapidly becoming a joint favourite wine country - it has always been my favorite country to visit - but I need to get to grips with its white wines. Rizzi is a good producer at reasonable prices for both Barbaresco and Langhe Nebbiolo, imho. Agree about Produttori del Barbaresco and Massolino Barolo. The Val di Suga 2015 Brunello, of which I have five remaining bottles, was my joint wine of the year in 2023 (Massolino, 2011 Barolo was the other). Although I have a half-case of Volpaia 2019 put away, I couldn't resist adding a half-bottle as part of a recently ordered mixed case, just to get a sneak preview later this year. French for me this weekend, though, with a 2016 Gigondas tonight and a 2014 Pouilly Fuisse tomorrow. Thanks again for another enjoyable video.

Hope you enjoy your wines today and tomorrow! Sounds like a nice lineup.
