Can we give a shout out to Meg for being such a supportive partner. You can tell she is so proud of Ben and really enjoys supporting him through his running journey. Well done Ben for still managing to run a sub 2:38 Marathon. It was humbling to see how positive you remained even though things didn't go to plan. That's a true athlete mentality! Big up yourself!
Well done for digging in and carrying on, hard to walk and then get back on it. Proper grit. so many would have just called it a day.
Not my style! I was getting to the blue carpet even if my legs fell off 😂
@@BenIsRunning I presumed you would, your ultra taught you that 💪💪
Wonderful to see you can't achieve your time race goal, but still enjoying the marathon with a smile and positive attitude. Well done mate. Congrats the best is still to come.
Thanks Pedro! At the end of the day theres so much more than just a time on a clock. A lot to have gratitude for :)
where's his glasses
I love your spirit man! So many people lose the fun and enjoyment of sport the better and more competitive they get. So good on you for not forgetting the moment and taking it all in. I really enjoy your videos. They have been a breath of fresh air in this world full of negativity.
Great comment. 1000% agree. Ben, I see some picks of you but I can't send these because CZcams doesn't admit images.
Yes, Ben's attitude to training and life is great. He's a positive and uplifting example for an older average runner, like me.
I came to make a similar comment but you've said it perfectly, Gary! Good on you Ben.
So true Gary. Too many runners get obsessed with chasing PB’s and ultimately feel disappointed when the don’t achieve. Running is so much more that that 🏃🏼🏃♀👍
Echo this 100%. Top man, Ben.
Amazing attitude. Sunday wasn’t your day but you put in an incredible block of training and your future across the distances is very exciting. It was great to see you at the start and I know that frustration of stomach issues very well. You’ll come back stronger in the next one I am certain. Also, absolutely loved this video. So nicely put together. Such a great edit and you caught some amazing moments. Recover well and good luck with the next build 👊
Thanks welshy! Really appreciate the kind words and even more inspired by your story! I had no idea you’d had 6 years of marathon heart ache and finally ticked of the dream race in Valencia. Looking forward to that feeling and even if it takes me 6 years as well, I’ll keep turning up. Hope your recoveries going well too bud x
Nice to see you and Meg at the finish in your disguise! I’m on about my 15th marathon and still learning and still PB’ing at 42 so you’ve got plenty of time to do yourself justice at the distance which I’m sure you will.
42 years for 42kms
@@greenpenguin3154 so I should be running 61 k at 61, I don't think so!
@@martinkelsen6049 yeah that’s maybe not ideal 😂
Awesome video, Valencia looks like a good event. Can never predict race day, still a great performance. I tried the sub 3 and crashed out at 30km then collapsed before the end but like you said there’s always another marathon.
Ben, just really really respect you so much. Meg is a joy to see as well. You are so humble and your channel and running are really getting so much traction, so fun to watch. A sub 2:40 second marathon is beyond impressive and it sucks not having the race execution go to plan, but so many lessons learned. Cheers!
Iam glad your partner is as clear headed as you are. Onward and upward!
You two make a great team 🥺🥰 Megs did a sterling job on the camera btw and her support for you is unrivalled ✌Thanks for sharing your Valencia journey. Gutted it didn't go to plan and I can imagine the huge disappointment from the moment it started to go wrong for you. However, you did enormously well to crack on, so huge kudos 👍👍. I wonder if it was the spaghetti that caused the stomach issues just as it did for Seth in New York last year? For me, the SiS beta fuel gels slipped out of the Soar marathon shorts (in London) but the Maurten ones stayed put.
Well done Ben, been following the journey and always a pain when it doesnt go to plan. I know you’ll just pick up and get on with it but do give yourself some rest and thinking time to reflect on what’s been from where I’m sitting a really good year. All the best for 2023.
Ben this was very inspirational. I'm quite new to running and seeing how you dealt with it throughout the race by being so positive was really fantastic, especially when as viewers we could see how much you wanted this in the build-up. It puts perspective on the importance of health over results and I need to try and remember this when I enter more events.
That is such an impressive response to things not panning out as planned. Massive respect for running what is still a time mere mortals like me can’t even aspire to, and doing it with a smile on your face!
Congratulations Ben! That little bit Of sickness may of been the difference. You finished and crossed that line! On to the next!!
I’m now laid up in bed following Valencia :/ hope you’re well
Thank you buddy! Yes quite possible, was just recovering but the previous 2 weeks were less than ideal :) rest up bud, hope you recover quickly
What a fantastic mentality Ben. Having Meg by your side all the way is amazing to see, you make a great team! Hope the recovery goes well, you'll get that target!
Well done Ben! Love your positivity glad you finished with a smile on your face. So many things can go wrong in a marathon and each one is a lesson to take into the next.
Your attitude is a huge inspiration for all us relatively slow runner. Thank you Ben and Meg
Ben the amount of work you’ve put in you’re sure to get it next time. It will feel all the better crossing the line in 2:20 next time which I’m sure you will. It shows not only determination to keep going but also humility. It’s not easy to continue doing something not only physically tough but then broadcasting to so many of your fans that you missed your goal and to do so with a smile really showed a lot about your character. Can’t wait to watch a video next year of yours documenting the race you hit your goal.
Thanks Ben and Meg! Love the channel and have been really inspired by your humble, helpful and fun manner. Was super impressed by the way you responded when the cramps hit. That you kept going and kept smiling was awesome. Looking forward to your next shot at a sub-2:20. Cheering you on from Adelaide, Australia :)
Nice one ben, really enjoyed your videos on your journey to the Valencia marathon. Gutted for you but you still carried on. You have inspired me to start taking running more seriously now. " Aspire to run, run to inspire " 💯
Absolutely hats off mate, so refreshing to hear runners just taking it on the chin, no bollocks , on to the next one. Running is bloody hard mate and you are at the sharp end of it and will definitely learn and get that 2:20. Observation from your first marathon (which was amazing by the way) don’t do all the work for everyone!! You pretty much front ran that and paced the elite ladies ! Do a bit, but sit in as well mate . High high kudos, love the channel and progress 👏👏👏
I loved this video. It’s what Marathon running it’s really about! Love your smile while you were struggling 💪🤩🫶🏻
Fair play for maintaining such a positive attitude even when things aren't going your way - really inspirational! It's only a matter time before you break 2:20. I really enjoyed the training series - looking forward to the next one!
What a great attitude Ben !! Your passion for running is infectious. I’m glad you enjoyed Valencia despite it not going quite to plan.
So many feel the marathon owes them when they’ve put the work in. Took it on the chin and totally humble. Good on you and so much to come. Well done
Well done Ben. Inspirational. Signed myself up for three half-marathons next year already. Thanks for the continued motivation and demonstration of a strong work ethic 💪
Loved the video and am so inspired that you pushed through and finished! Congrats on the grit and best of luck as you prep for that mentioned upcoming race next month!
What a brilliant attitude to have. Realising that the goal time wasn’t achievable on the day but then having the strength of mind to carry on and enjoy the experience is really awesome. Well done to Meg as well for being No.1 supporter. Thanks for sharing.
Good job. Running 2:37 is some effort. Ojalá I can run that fast one day. Keep the videos coming.
Love how you took this "hit". So mature! Also Meg's support is just amazing. Very inspiring! 👏🙏
You’re such an inspiration ben! I’m rooting for you in 2023 you’re amazing
Good effort, Ben. The marathon is a continual learning process. People that have run 20+ marathons are still learning. And one thing that makes it special is that it's much harder to fight through a bad day or incorrect pacing early on than other race distances. I was glad to see you still finished with a smile, as after all, running is about enjoying the moment, the physical and mental challenge, getting out and being active, and not just about race times. Good luck on your next race!
So glad that you're already got your head up and looking forward to the next marathon. Best of luck!
Great run , great learnings ! Thanks for sharing and already looking forward to follow you in February
You two ❤ Great supporting Meg, well done Ben, looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Well done, that was a big shift 💪 Loved that you ran it with a smile on your face! Really enjoyed this series and looking forward to seeing what’s next 👍
Your run did INSPIRE.
Well done on finishing, hoping to see you run strong soon and finishing the 2:20 marathon. 💪
What a super attitude you showed there. When marathons go wrong it's all to easy to go on a massive downer. You kept your spirits up, appreciated what you could do and seemed to have a good overall experience, if not the race result you wanted. You know why this was. Words of wisdom from Meg at the end regarding the rollercoaster of a 10-year marathon career.
Nothing but respect Ben. Seeing you with a positive attitude after a run that didn't work out exactly the way you wanted it to. You take it in stride and keep shining.
Brilliant work Ben. The fact that you knew you weren't feeling great but you still managed to push through it and at that pace, phenomenal.
Regardless of the walking - you performed admirably. Well done once again. 👍👏
Brilliant job to keep going and enjoying it all the way to the finish. The Valencia marathon is very special in terms of the atmosphere, climate, depth of field and that amazing finish. Next time you're in Valencia you'll nail it!
Marathons are unpredictable beasts!! No one knows how they will go on the day. Training could go perfectly but that doesn’t guarantee a perfect race. Dust yourself down and go again. You’re an amazing runner and definitely have 2:20 in you. Well done Ben ⭐️
Really well done, Ben! Sorry it didn’t go as planned but as you said, there will be many more in the future! Have loved following along with your videos over this training block and am looking forward to seeing what you tackle next!
Well done for getting it done Ben👊 Great camera work and updates
You're an inspiration Ben, sucks that it didn't go to plan, gutted for you - but will make it all the sweeter in February when you smash it.
Well done mate. The way stayed positive even when things didn't go to plan was great to see. I think a lot of us are guilty of taking our goals so serious that we forget to enjoy the experience. Looking forward to the next series.
What I love about you fellow Essex man is you are always happy and positive, fantastic mind set and as you said next time you will get it for sure.
All the best Marc.
loving the couples point of view!! As a runner, with a partner who I lug around to races it's nice to see similar experiences! Great work Ben, can't every day being a good day - look forward to seeing what you have in store next!
I was there and wasn’t quite my day either. Great route, crowd, city etc, but unbelievable lack of toilets. Every runner knows the pain of mother nature hampering a run! I couldn’t go pre-race as the queues for the portaloos were too long, then had to wait until mile 13! Savage!
Well done Ben,great attitude from you and megs!
Hopefully all come good in your planned February marathon
What can I say other than I'm now looking forward to your next marathon to see you achieve your goal. Really enjoyed the Valencia series!
Thanks for the great video Meg did a great job! On to the next one 🎉
I've run 20 marathons. About 5 of them ended like this. That's why the marathon is amazing.
Well done Ben , a great marathon time and a very positive outlook now for your next one . Great support and filming Meg I know how that is too having followed my son around London marathon 👊💥
Incredible positive outlook and message despite the struggles, amazing work and thank you!
good luck on the next run Ben- I enjoyed your video- keep it up!
Well done! Does wonders for your 'runners head' when you've came through a tough race. Similar thing happened to me in London 21 where I had a hamstring issue, really REALLY bad stitch and a nose bleed. The joys!
Well done again!
well done ben, you remained positive through out the race, i learned alot from this.
Ben you legend. Putting your balls on the line to run 2:20. Love the fact you never hide from the truth and put your goals and aspirations out there. You’ll learn more from this than if you’d run 2:22. One race doesn’t define you. What you do for the running community does though. We go again.
Well done Ben. You still finished and at the end of the day you enjoyed it, and took in the experience. On to the next one. Congratulations.
Love the channel Ben, keep up the great work.
t's so easy to go off a little too quickly. Most people who have done a few marathons will have done it at least once. I know I have. At your age you have so much time to learn and improve and I'm certain you will achieve your goal in the future.
Congratulations Ben on finishing despite the stomach pain. Many would have quit. You did not and focused on enjoying Valencia. This positive mindset will get you to achieve many things. Keep up the good work
Legendary handling of a plan gone awry. Nothing to be upset about! This man has his ego in check. There is always something to be thankful for whether it be the striking blue carpet or simply the physical ability to run at all. Top notch mate.
Very well done and fair play for your positivity, great attitude. A great time nonetheless! Looking forward to your next one already.
Well done Ben, great run !! still a cracking time, and much more to show for another day.
You ran a smart race with the difficulties, love the positivity and lots more marathons to come fella
Well done Ben! Sorry to hear about your stomach issues, I'm sure you were a lot more disappointed than you let on but it was good to see you smiling still, it also means you'll still have the 2.20 to celebrate in your future! 👍
Nice work going to the finishline despite all the negatives! Can’t wait to see the next one!
Congratulations buddy, a job well done, if it didn't had some pain and trouble it wouldnt be a real marathon, its when the going gets tough then the tough gets going they say, you inspire us all, keep going.
Big shout out to you Ben. Being so positive and turning what was a disappointing run in terms of target into an enjoyable run. Lots more to come and learn. Each one adds to your experience and allows you to adapt and call on that experience. Also, a massive shout out to Megs. She is so proud of you and so supportive and not too bad with the camera either 😁 Looking forward to the next one.
I don't comment so much but just want to write that you are my inspiration. Last 2 years was more going through contusions than real running but your videos and energy keep me going. Fingers cross for another attempt.
Great job Ben and great video coverage and commentary from Meg 👏
Thanks Graham! She did a great job :)
Good effort mate, your attitude to not meeting your goals is inspiring 💙
I think going through the stomach issues you did and finishing is far more impressive and inspiring than running 2:20. It may not have been what you would choose for a result, but still very well done. Amazing job and thank you for sharing your journey with us. Looking forward to the next one!!!!
Great job Ben! Staying in the positive to the end is very hard when things don't go as planned! Impressive inner strength 🙂
Good work Ben! Your incredibly inspiring. Keep it up ❤
Way to finish after stomach issues. Great meeting you two on the streets later that afternoon. Keep up the great work and videos.
Well done Ben. Great attitude on a race that didn’t go according to plan. Lessons learnt.
Great to see an antidote to the “the time is all that matters” culture that exists for a lot of runners. Something to be enjoyed in every run, even if it doesn’t go to plan.
Plenty more chances to get that target. Much more important to enjoy yourself.
Great video ben! Enjoy all your videos but especially enjoyed this one!
Might not have been your day but that is still a incredibly fast time
Massive kudos Ben , on to the next , I could see at the end of the video this must of been tough emotionally, you have put a lot of work into this but onto the next and keep up the great videos cheers Stu
Well done Ben. Thank you and the lovely girfriend for bringing us along. Really enjoyed watching, ran myself thete Sunday and got a nice 2..33.42 (PB) at age 50. Good luck in Sevilla!
Your 18km blowup was exactly the same as mine over the weekend, competing at the Bangkok 42km marathon... I had some really RARE stomach issues but oh well, nothing to hang your head in shame about... there's always the next one! And yeah man, love this video (along with the others) - keep it going!
Well done mate, still an absolutely incredible time!
Great job!! That is still an impressive time. I went off too fast on my marathon as well and had to walk jog the last eight miles. You will get it next time.
Well done Ben it's tough pal I've ran 15 through the years you never get two the same no matter how well you've prepared the slightest thing that goes wrong on the day and the games up but you'll run one and everything will click this will happen for you because you're attitude is great I know you will and most importantly you know you will all the best
Douggie musson leading the 2.20 pack. Now that’s a lad to follow. Hes gonna be an smile on a few years
Well done Ben, good effort and a time most people can only dream of. I’m glad you’re enjoying the marathons but remember the channel doesn’t depend on a perfect result. I prefer seeing you smash 10k and cross country anyway and finishing at 2:50 pace! Stay well and keep enjoying running. Take care.
Well done!! Still awesome time those things happen to everyone we are only human. Again superb effort 👍👍👍
Well done Ben getting it done many would have stopped. Lad I know done this one in2.23 was his first marathon as well.
Great vlog and yes early days .. look forward to the next adventure
Well done and congratulations! You really went deep into the trenches there. You will surely get that PB in the next one.
Just found your channel. Very impressed you managed to get the camera out when things weren’t going well. After all that build up and work it can be so frustrate bring taken over by something out of your control. Great spirit keeping your chin up. Looking forward to see where you go next.
I'm sorry that your run didn't go to plan, but was pleased that you had the grit to finish, and you still felt positive through out. Even the best like Eliud Kipchoge can have a bad run like his last London Marathon, and then do his magic at this years Berlin Marathon. I believe with your positive outlook that can be seen in your You Tube posts that you are capable of achieving your goal of a sub 2:20 Marathon. Your perseverance and love of running will get you there.
Loved seeing Meg's perspective too. What's the physiological basis of getting stomach issues from going out too fast? So much to learn. Glad you quickly switched to let's push on and enjoy it and finish. Can't wait to see what's next for you!
Ben waiting so long for this video! Go Ben!
Superb Attitude! Well Done Ben!
Way to stick it out Ben! I had a similar experience on 12/4 during the marathon. Was on track for 2:35 through about 30km then stomach cramped up and threw up about 10 times and ended up walk-jogging it in to finish in 2:57 😅 looking forward to seeing you get after the next one!
Great results Ben..Congratulations 👍👀👏
Great job. Maybe not what you wanted but even in that, you did great!! Liked seeing Meg in the video as well for your support!!
