  • If you have questions fire away. My email is Murpheyd@aol.com. This is my hobby, but I want share with others and I want the solutions to be rock solid. The Model Train hobby has a lot of creative potentially if standardized platforms can be used for base designs and creative designs in bodies, operations. features and functions. I have built numerous theme trains. Of course Holiday, but also a Oz train, Lincoln Furneral train. several little girl themes and sports, spies and nationalities. For friends mostly but when we have a robust baseline plus Internet of Things wow! My Dream train is Snow Piercer. But I want to release all the current development as soon as I know it is as good as I can make for DIY Hobbyist. I am not NASA but it's needs to be better. Anyone interested in helping let know. I will not live for ever and want this done soon. Thank You all. Dennis

Maybe you some more B+ filtering…might see something using a scope.

Thank You, I can set up a test engine hook up the scope and share that video would that be a good next step. Do I look at the DC volts to the motor or the DC to the Sound Board? Do they need to loaded, the real parts or a resistor to simulate load? I am all ears. Dennis

@@DennisMurphey I think DC on the sound board with real parts

Do you still have a link to the original whitepaper? Also the components tou changed on the board they designed?
Also where do you get the sound board? Is there a link to that?
All of the above would be useful in analysis of the issue.
I am the IOT/Wifi commenter from before and I have kinda had to give myself a primer in how these work and so far here is what I have been able to determine.
So the AC power primarily controls the motor. However each button actually adds or subtracts a DC current to the line. (I'm gussing betwen 3 and 5v worth) and before each component triggered by those there is a choke that filters out the ac component and passes dc to the device in question be it a sound board or the transmission.
Ideally the first thing you do is to profile your tranformer (or transformers for the sake of comparison) so hook your scope up to the transformer all by itself to see what happens when each button is pressed both when the thottle is off and when it would theoretically be moving the train.
Im still waiting on my train from ebay and I am trying to find a period appropriate transformer but have no idea what I should be looking for.
But the most valueable thing would be those links requested above so I can actually determine the parts in use and what may be going strangely.
But profiling the transformer would also be very useful as the information i have otherwise been able to find regarding the button functions is very ambiguous about the dc component being added/subtracted to the line.
I promised you an email and havent gotten around to it as its been hectic this week I will get that done today once I finish some work for the day. But if you can provide links to that paper and the parts currently in use (any you have even if some is not immediately available anything is a starting point)

@@Segphalt I have the paper I think in PDF. Send me your email address we can dig into any aspect you like. I also have a bottom box design for the two sounds to the Lionel TMCC sound board. I can send that as well. Tell what train you ordered. I can send my parts you can test with. D

This sound board is extremely rare and not produced anymore. The next best sound Board is from Engineering called Bigger Little Sound it is for HO.
      www.ngineering.com/little_sounds.htm
N8500-XXX $30.45 Little Bigger Sounds with 1-1/2-watt amplifier and N8315 speaker.
N8501-XXX $30.95 Little Bigger Sounds with 1-1/2-watt amplifier and N8328 speaker. (I use this one)
N8502-XXX $36.95 Little Bigger Sounds with 1-1/2-watt amplifier and N8352 (52mm round) speaker. (Need to try larger speaker)
N8503-XXX $22.95 Little Bigger Sounds configured for output to any standard external amplifier. (if we have a amp to use for more sound????)
