Buffy The Vampire Slayer Facts You Haven't Heard Before - ZĂĄbava
"Angel has a much darker tone than Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
**Immediately shows clip of Angel as a Muppet**
đđđ đ
Dammit, I was about to make that EXACT comment. :) And they also follow it with Angel dancing. No way that was accidental.
Favorite moment: When her classmates give Buffy the Class Protector Award. Still gets me every time.
One of my favorite scenes
I had no idea children, en masse, could be gracious.
Everytime
then that cvnt Sunday breaks it. buffy should have had willow fix it with magic.
One scene that really grabbed me for its uniqueness was when Buffy is patrolling, she gets jumped by a vamp, and as they're having their knock-down, drag out fight, he suddenly stops and says, "Buffy? Buffy Summers? Holden Webster. I used to let you crib off my notes in English Composition." After which they take a break to have a philosophical discussion before resuming their brawl with the inevitable outcome. One of the very few vamps I was sorry to see get dusted.
I think that was from the episode "Conversations With Dead People."
"Buffy, I'm here to kill you, not to judge you"
Once More with Feeling is a truly unique episode of TV
I always have a hard time picking a favorite episode... Until someone mentions this one! đś
In a very different tone, so was The Body. I've never seen a show handle shock and grief that powerfully.
My favorite moment is Spike's "You're The One" speech. It truly shows the writer in him. It shows William coming out over Spike. Another one is kind of sad. It's actually when Anya talks about Joyce after she died. She didn't understand how Joyce can't go back into her body. Oh and "The Body" was some of the best acting on that show. "Hush" was as well. I keep thinking of others but it's going to be longer than this comment already is. So I'll end it here. đđ
When Faith says "5 by 5" she is referring to radio communications. When you do a communications check you rate the clarity of the signal and signal strength. Rating is 1 to 5 with 5 being best, so 5 by 5 means good clarity.
It is also used as Military Slang to mean "I'm clear" or "Every thing is good"
Yeah! I first heard the phrase in "Aliens". It was said by the drop ship pilot.
Yea, exactly. I thought the same thing when they said that. Maybe they didn't mean to imply the Buffy writers made up the term, but it sounded like that to me. I always figured that Faith was a military brat before she became the new Slayer on Kendra's death in season 2.
Welp, I was today years old when I learned that. I assumed it was a reference to five fingers on a hand - five by five being a verbal version of slapping someone's hand and dragging it away, then flipping it over for them to do the same. I'd have bet money that was what it was.
Learn something new every day.
Interesting! That is actually the one fact I hadnât heard before. The video itself is just misquoted tidbits from the DVD extras
When Buffy & Spike suddenly can't keep their hands off each other & the floor gives way underneath themâ¤â¤â¤
Fav episode is when Giles wakes up as a demon. Fav moment is when he gets out of his car, driven by Spike, to chase Buffy's psychology professor.
My ultimate favourite moment is towards the end Becoming Part 2. First when Buffy and Angelus are fighting, Buffy's come to back to Angelus' "No weapons, no friends, no hope. Take all that away and what have you got left?" Then Buffy opens her eyes and says, "Me!" Then shoves him in the face with the butt of the sword is frickin bad ass! Then Buffy's pain when Angel gets his soul back and she has to kill him is palpable and feels so real. I cry like a baby everytime I watch that episode.
@AngeTousRodney Agreed! Best scene ever!!!
Many beautiful funny or strong moments but I think my favorite is the gang protecting Tara from being taken away against her will by her relatives â¤
"Hush" is FOREVER my favorite episode
Yes definitely some serious chills
Favorite: "I am NOT sleeping with Spike! But i'm starting to think YOU ARE!"
Defo when Buffy finally gives into spike and the house falls on themâŚfavourite episode has always been the gentlemen đą
Favorite line:
Giles: âForgiveness isnât for the other person Buffy, itâs for you.â
Itâs gotten SOOO much easier to move on from the pain people caused me after hearing this. I can forgive them for MY sense of peace, not to remove their sense of guilt.
After reading your comment itâs gotten sooo much easier for me to mive on. Forgiving for myself not for otherâs sake. Thank you for writing it!
@@nikanau2041 youâre welcome!
Giles: âTo forgive is an act of compassion buffy, is not done because people deserve it, is done because they need itâ
My fav moment is when buffy askes what spike is doing by her house and he says "out for a walk b****"
â5 words or lessâ đđ
iconic! I want that on a shirt so bad!
@@JhadeSagrav same! But it wouldn't be good for my reputation as a mama who teaches Bible stuff.
Favorite moment... Probably Xander talking Dark Willow down. Always makes me bawl like a baby.
The yellow crayon đđŠ
Iâm probably a freak, but Buffy and Angelâs first time, always makes me wanna cry. Thereâs something so pure and tragic about it.
@@mightybitchy I read an essay on Consequences not too long ago talking about how the reason they went to bed, knowing that they weren't supposed to (which Angel does say) is because when the Judge had touched Buffy he burned out part of her humanity temporarily, which was a pivotal part in holding her back from succumbing to her temptation. Interesting stuff, and very tragic if so.
@@TunezCottage True, thatâs funny, I never interpreted this like that. Only that they feared they would lose each other so much, the temptation was too great and impossible to control.
Especially since I really believe that Xander wasn't actually trying to talk her down and stop her. That he honestly just wanted to spend his last moments with his best friend.
"When She Was Bad". Buffy weeping as she smashed the bones of the Master and everyone realizing that she's not a glorious superhero, but a girl doomed to die young, in darkness and pain and terror.
Just watched that last night. That was such a great character moment. She'd been pushing away Angel (and everyone else) the whole episode, and at that moment, she turns and cries into his shirt. She just goes from victorious to vulnerable.
As Ms. Calendar says, "The part that gets me thought, is where Buffy is the Vampire Slayer. She's so little!" đ SMG really IS Buffy. Anyone else would've been the wrong choice.
@@JhadeSagrav The ep really sets up the tone for the darkness of the Angelus arc, and the operatic climax.
Favorite moment is the end of season 5. Where she can not stop taking the book off the shelf. She knew she couldn't win. There is a lot of personal growth where it wasn't about if she would live or save the day but what it means that "death is your gift"
Such a legendary show with much influence on other TV-Shows. I grew up with Buffy and will always love that show!!
Me too. And I refuse they ever reboot it. The episodes are just too timeless and perfect. Even the bad ones.
@@mightybitchy I agree. A reboot wouldn't give it justice.
@@mightybitchy Totally agree. Buffy was iconic and pretty much perfect and a reboot couldn't even come close. So rather than a reboot (which I doubt anyone wants), they could maybe instead launch a new show focused on various potentials and simply call it Slayers. That could be good, without tarnishing Buffy.
@@fractalfae5418 They tried with First Kill, and it was an abomination.
My favourite moment is the one where everyone tries to kill Principal Woods and Buffy has the Rocket Launcher and you see Spike come flying out of nowhere to get it away from her, and Principal Woods sitting in his office looks up squints like he heard something and goes back to work.
Favourite Buffy moment is when the real Buffy is pretending to be the Buffy bot in order to get Spike confessing about his torture. Turns out that Spike would have died for the real Buffy, the real Buffy kisses Spike and he realises it is her. The look between them is intense. The end of the scene is Buffy saying "what you did for me and Dawn was real; I won't forget it".
Dude, yeah. That was beautifully done. They do more acting in one glance than a lot of people have in their entire careers.
That was a good scene.
@@chrischuba5037
"You couldn't tell me apart from a ROBOT?!"
Apparently a little TOO well! đ
"She's very well done!" ~Anya
I love the episode where Buffy and Angel are possessed by a love lorn teacher and student from the 50's. David's portrayal of the teacher is beautiful and spot on. I'm also a fan of "The Gentleman," episode
My god, this episode always make me emotional. You know they are possessed, but the acting and writing is so good, you get all the subtleties.
WHY DOES NO ONE EVER TALK ABOUT THAT EPISODE?!??!? Only Have Eyes For You was a masterpiece to me. Maybe was the parallel too on the nose? I didn't think so. I thought it was insane how they somehow made a random story about a horrible teacher-student relationship that led to a murder-suicide into a PERFECT PARALLEL OF BUFFY AND ANGEL'S SITUATION. Just .....WHAT?! I loved every bit of that! And Angelus at the end saying he felt violated by being possessed by love. And the way Buffy says, "Angel?" right before he roars and shoves her. And Buffy saying the kid deserves to suffer even if he didn't actually mean to hurt her, he did and he needs to live with that and even how Xander says, "He can't live with it. He's dead." GAH. And HOW THE GHOST BROKE THE CURSE by using an immortal to bring the teacher back to life and save him before he kills himself, just....!!!!!
HOW IS THIS NOT TALKED ABOUT MORE!??!
@@JhadeSagrav I know right. It's my all time favorite episode. I had hoped they'd reboot Buffy in a way that had the old cast back together but Sarah Michelle Gellar says she isn't interested in doing that. Shoot I'd even be happy if they did a movie; but alas it isn't meant to be. đ
Hmm... My favorite moment of BtVS? Let see... Probably 1x01-7x22 :)
Favorite moment "I'm standing right HERE!!"
And don't forget Xander's "Dark Master... bater."
@@Starbeam1979 đ¤Ł
Favorite moment: Anya's speech in The Body
Close second: Warren being flayed
Favorite episode: Once More With Feeling
Underrated episode: The Zeppo
One of my most favorite moments is after Angel loses his soul and Buffy blames herself for it. After having failed to stake Angel, Giles is driving her home. Buffy says that he must be so disappointed in her and Giles immediately assures her that he is not. âIf itâs guilt youâre looking for Buffy, Iâm not your man. All you will get from me is my support and my respect.â
my favorite moment is
"say it in five words or less" đ
so is it just me or did everyone else know a majority of the facts in this video already because you love buffy the vampire slayer? no.. just me. ok. lol!
Not just you
Oh, yeah. There were a total of five facts that I hadn't heard before, and I was actually very impressed that there were that many. (Telekinesis, Anthony Head tutoring James Marsters with his accent, the 90210 set, the UK family friendly edits, and almost getting Ryan Reynolds as Xander. Holy CRAP would that last one have changed everything in this reality, from where Buffy went to what Ryan's other projects would look like. Thank God it didn't happen, I don't think we'd have gotten The Adam Project and that's one of my favorite films.)
Season one definitely has more than 3 sets, as they are in the bronze at that time which was pretty large.
David was already in television before Buffy, he played a one-time role on Married With Children and other little tv spots.
Faith definitely had a spin off ready for production, but Eliza turned it down for a different shoes project at the time.
âGoogle itâ wasnât invented by Buffy, but it was the first time the word âGoogleâ was used as a verb on television.
Thanks for the other tidbits! That was fun!
From what I've uncovered, the Faith spin off wasn't ready for production. It was still in preproduction.
@@kyleellis1825 you may be correct, and my little heart was just so ready for it to happen that I imagined it was ready for production the moment Eliza would be on board đ
I think it means that only 3 sets were created from scratch. Many regular sets were pre-existing locations - the school halls and exteriors were actually Torrance High School, for example, and the Bronze was an unused industrial space.
WellâŚ. Now I have to go binge the whole series⌠again.. thanks a lot lol
Just finished S1 yesterday.. for the 3rd time.
Buffy and Spike forever â¤
Fact: Nicolas Brenden has a twin brother who subbed for him and played Xander 2 when his personality was split into 2 bodies..favorite scene is when Spike realizes itâs the real Buffy back from death and heâs cleaning up her knuckles and dreamt of her everyday
He also stood in for Nicholas in one episode when he was sick.
fave moment: when demon Giles scares Initiative lady....as to bands, the female werewolf who tries to "take" Oz performed at the Bronze
I love that episode đ And when he wakes Alex up in demon form, lol⌠The part he met her, comparing her to the Minotaure, was great too.
I must've been the only one of my friends who could tell James Marsters wasn't British. There were a couple of times the accent really dropped. On the whole excellent and his character as a whole was so engaging that it didn't irritate me too much. If we're going to say which American completely fooled me with their English accent then it has to be Alexis Denisof! I've NEVER heard such an accurate posh English accent on a TV actor. Still haven't. When I found out he was American my jaw dropped! Oh and that he and Alyson married!
Ha! Marsters made Dick Van Dyke sound like a natural.
Marsters is from Modesto Ca. Where I've lived my whole life. Jeremy Renner is from here too
My favorite moment in BTVS is when Xander talks Willow out of destroying the world in season six.
My favorite moment in Angel is when Illyria is talking to Angel about the price of power in season five.
But there are so many amazing episodes in both series that it becomes very hard to choose.
Xander had a lot of great moments. I also loved it when Dawn was downcast that she found out that wasn't a potential, and Xander takes the time to point out just how extraordinary she is regardless.
My favorite moments were a couple of scenes from Dopplegangland, one of my favorites episodes. First, when vampire Willow dressed as "real" Willow interacts with Cordelia, and, second, when "real" Willow dressed as vampire Willow goes into the Bronze. Great acting by Allison Hanigan.
BTW. I think the most famous musical guest appearance was by Amiee Mann.
One of the best shows ever, Sarah Michele Gellar was Buffy, no one can ever replace her, I never missed one episode. Fav episode....Angel wants to kill himself by going out into the sun at dawn, Buffy begged him not to and then it snowed and saved him.
Episode Amends
Some scenes were also shot at West High School. You can tell from the distinctive architecture. Torrance High was the first Torrance high school, West High was the fourth.
She wasn't sixteen when she was called. She was either fourteen or fifteen years old. She was called one year before coming to Sunnydale and she turned sixteen while she was there.
We could easily do a "top 23 things about Buffy that aren't talked about because they're more controversial than they seem on the surface" and that would easily make the list. I can actually see it now... and might do it.
Favorite moment was Buffy reacting to Dawn ""tattoo": 'Over my dead body. The kind that doesn't come back.'
"5 by 5" is actually a code used in radio. If the person you're talking to on the other end had a clear, strong signal you would say something like, "you're five by five.", essentially confirming that they are coming in loud and clear. Other numbers refer to different situations like if you can only hear yourself or not at all you might say, "4 by 6" or "3 by 5". Five by five is Faith's way of confirming, "it''s all good!"(which for somebody who tends to live in the moment, is like, always).
Willow was right; nobody knows đ!
That may be true, but I feel like I've seen/heard commentary by Joss basically saying it was meaningless...it was just a saying they made up for her
It was used by the military in WWII when most communications were by radio. It was indeed strength of signal X clarity.
So when you say 5x5 to someone it does mean loud and clear as hostile17 says.
But I do like the way Faith says it :)
It was also used in the U.S. space program. It can be heard from/to Mission Control in Houston during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions. A good fictional demonstration of this is the HBO series From the Earth to the Moon. It is available on demand/streaming from HBOMax. Note that on demand is missing the Apollo 12 episode, but streaming has it. Excellent series!
@@nathanielstill2118 the phrase is used at the beginning of âAlienâ which was made in the 70s đ
As a retired USAF Ground Radio Specialist, 5 by 5 is us to signify the radio is sending and receiving properly. âI read you 5 by 5â. Kind of like a band doing a mike check while setting up for a performance. Over and out! Cheers
God Buffy n spike romance gave me my need for enemies to lovers
i watch buffy every week, EPIC show đ¤Żđ¤Żđ¤Żđ¤Ż
Favorite moment in Buffy is when she tells Xander and Willow that she sacrificed Angel she loved him and would have given up everything to be with him. Best moment in Angel is when David slips and says Sarah, not Buffy. Angel and Buffy, Spike and Dru, Willow and Oz.
"i'll never forget..."
"Please, Sarah. Please!"
fun fact the episode starring Danny Strong as the lead character was done as an apology to danny for keeping him available all the time and not using him which frequently prevented him from being able to audition for other productions....Danny is a friend of mine
Many favorite moments, this being my favorite show ever. But if I had to pick just one, it would be during the fight between Buffy and Angelus in Becoming Part 2.
Angel: "Take all that away and what's left?"
Buffy: "Me"
One of my favorite Willow lines I use every day at work 'Bored now'
Its not just the phrase that makes it useful, its the delivery:)
Great video. Iâm people think Iâm joking when I tell them I had to stay up until midnight to watch the full episodes haha
I grew up with Buffy and the Charmed. Great shows, great female characters.
I was in 6th grade when I started watching buffy, first episode I watched live was Graduation Day. It became my comfort show and I can not count how many times I have watched the show since. I'm still noticing new things and picking up on details I somehow missed. Watching the show as an adult feels like a new experience. I've seen Angel several times (great show) but nothing can ever compare to how great this show was, and there are no words to describe how much it has meant to me.
Season 3 is the first I watched live. I remember discovering season one on VHS tapes, lol.
Best character: Spike.
Best episode: âHushâ.
Best scene: In âBewitched, Bothered and Bewilderedâ where Buffy attempts to seduce Xander and is wearing only a soon-to-be-removed coat.
Best line(s):
Buffy: âI love youâ.
Spike: âNo, you donât. But thanks for sayinâ itâ.
Favorite Moment: Buffyâs last speech in the series finale. The montage of all the potentialâs power activating around the world. Are you brave enough to be strong?
The best show of all time.
[Re Angel] "It has a much darker tone" -- proceeds to show Angel as a Muppet and exaggerated goofy dancing. Mmyes, very dark indeed.
(The muppet episode is the funniest episode of any TV show I have ever watched, you could say, it had me in stitches...)
Best Character - Spike
Best episode - probabky The Body but the competition is fierce
Best scene - ooooh thats hard - the awarding of the Class Protector
Best line - again hard especially since a lot are retorts to other lines but 'you were myth taken' is probably one.
Bit of a stretch there, "Google It" had been used for a good while prior to Willow, she was just the first character to use it on TV. The same way Hogwarts was an invention prior to Dawn suggesting they all crack a book. The show reflected pop culture in these regards, not created it.
A lot of these facts are pretty common knowledge
Buffy is also one of the most favoured of fan fiction crossovers.
The hyena possession was a good one giving a glimpse of Xander if he wasnt the butt monkey making this a opportunity to put him on more equal standing with Buffy, however Joss decided to go with the butt monkey instead.
Spike and Drusilla. Actually, any scene with Dru.
I think it was â5 by 5â. Something about radio signal strength.
I still use âwigginsâ so much so that it pops up in my predicted text đđđ
I'm from Holland. And in Holland we can receive the BBC. I always noticed differences between the versions on the BBC and the ones aired on Dutch TV. We don't edit anything in Holland.
"Angel has a much darker tone than Buffy" Proceeds to show the goofiest clips from Angel.
1:22 The hellmouth wasn't an opening as much as a Nexus of energy that attracted demonic beings đ¤
Did you not see season 7?
The episode "Hush"; Priority to view EACH Halloween
Honestly I'd love an animation series about anything/anyone in the buffyverse. Like the comics I'd be a fun addition to it.
I was 12 when I started watching buffy. The first episode I ever watched was the Halloween episode in season 2
My favourite all time moment is Angel vs Riley, I like Angel in this scene, and Riley holds his own, I often wonder how Riley would handle Angelus, it was a great scene
Season 6 episode 13 where Buffy and Spike are holding their hands against the door with Bush playing in the background definitely my favorite moment in the whole show.
This is great content, well scripted and produced, you should have many more subscribers.
Big fan of the show. The best part I think is a lot of the funny dialogue or it seems sometimes improvise dialogue Buffy would do and some of her funny quirky banter.
Lol---there is no yt channel who ever found something about btvs&A that i didnt know before^^
you are no exception!
Willow absorbing the spell books
I used to love this show so much. The comic books killed it for me , though. I haven't been able to read a cpmic book since February 2010...
my favorite moment is... all of them!
Canât thumbs up with the magic number being 666, but it is with pleasure that I give a thumbs up. Some things you might not knowâŚJoss Whedon was raised by a single mother and a strong single mother so Buffy is a homage to her. The actor playing Zander is also a twin and Brendanâs brother was in an episode of Buffy when Zander split in two. I have too many favourite episodes to mention.
some very cool facts. thanks for the collection =)
What about cordy faith and Kendra as powerful female characters
How they took Cordelia's character from bimbo to badass (in ATS) is probably the greatest character growth i've ever seen on TV. I really wish we'd known Kendra for longer. And Faith. Let's just say the first time i ever dressed up for halloween, i went as my favorite rebel slayer.
@JhadeSagrav cordy was always a badass, not a bimbo, more so a mean girl to fierce woman
I love how they empowered the women, but didnât force itâŚ. Like they do nowadays. Also, Allison Hannibal đđĽ°â¤ď¸
Loved the video, but still waiting for facts I haven't heard before ;)
It is unfortunate that I have known all of these "facts you've never heard before" since at least 2004.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was a perfect casting for Buffy. Mostly because of her size her wet and she seemed more fearless not too much of anything really scared her character.
Her wet??sounds like a Freudian slip??so is she wet or are you?
i like when harmony dated spike
Her Blondybear!
half Angel, half Spike, and then there is me wishing for more Parker!!!
As a long time fan of Btvs, I expected to know a good portion of these and I did, all but 2, that Ryan Reynolds almost played Xander and that Blink 182 had been on Buffy.
One correction though, Willow was not the first person to use the word "google" as a verb, just the first person on tv and it was really just a set up for the "Willow, she's 15!" joke, which I remember thinking was a pretty lame joke at the time. I was in my teens when it aired
Blink 182 featured their song ÂŤ all the small things Âť as Willow was dancing at the Bronze. After she broke up with Oz. They didnât actually perform on stage.
@@mightybitchy Neither did Sarah McLachlan as they mention in this video. Aimee Mann and Kâs Choice did perform at the Bronze though, and it was my introduction to Aimeeâs music.
Hearing Blink 182 called Blink 1-8-2 physically hurt me.
Good for you.
Whedon prefers Buffy & Spike? That's odd, considering that, according to James Marsters, Whedon absolutely hated the Spike character and never wanted him around for more than a couple of episodes.
Now I want more.
"It's a doodle. I do doodles. You too! You do doodles too!" - Say this 10 times.
They should do a continuation of the story. Either as a limited special TV series or a sequel movie.
This must have been written by someone who has never really seen the show. I am 1:29 in and there have already been at least misleading statements about the show, e.g. "the hellmouth, an opeing through which demons and monsters could enter the human world and reality" That makes it sound like creatures are constantly creeping up from the hellmouth.
Anyone who has seen the show knows that is not the case. The Hellmouth is not an "opening" but it can be opened. Would be hard if it were permanently open, since "the opening" is literally in the middle of the school library of Sunnydale High.
I feel like I should just switch off now. I don't think I can trust your "facts".
Doesn't the name "January Media" sound hopelessly corporate? I can just visualize the conference room.
As for factual accuracy, ChatGPT will be providing our entertainment going forward.
