    Here’s my current thinking about “lightfastness.” WHATEVER you create, if you like it love it or want to reproduce it, lightfast or not, or somewhere in-between, be sure to take a quality photo or better yet, a high-resolution scan of it right away. I’m reading that for print reproduction for giclee prints (fine art prints) that a scanned image is best. At any rate, if you do want to sell the work that you’ve done a fabulous job on but that you’re unsure of the permanency or lightfastness of each color (also remember that lightfast ratings are rated on the mass tone and not the diluted with water color,) make sure you have good scans of your work that are reproducible and salable.

    • @mydogeatspuke
      @mydogeatspuke Před 2 lety +10

      It's also worth remembering that fluorescent dyes, which are often used to brighten the look of a lesser quality paint, scans differently to how your eye perceives it. So if you're using a lot of very bright, cheap colours and mixing them down to something more muted, you may not see the same thing on your computer screen once scanned. Opera in watercolour also has this issue because of the fluorescent dye used alongside the regular (PR122) pigment, so it looks much duller once scanned. You can always edit the scans brightness or saturation, but that tone will be lost. I suppose there's always things like Photoshop or Clip Studio to add back in some more neon tones, but then it would become mixed media and that's not always what someone is going for.

    • @CreatingCuteArt
      @CreatingCuteArt Před 2 lety +4

    just a heads up, the colors on this set that aren't on the 18 set fade extremely easily. those light violet, nude, and rosy pastel colors? yeah, put them on your window for a month or less and they will be fully gone.
    On the 18 colors set there is only one color with this issue, the violet. on the 24 colors palette, there's 5. so really you get 17 reliable colors on one, and 19 on the other. and when i say a color fades, oh do they fade, i mean they fade extremely easily. So, something to keep in mind if you are gonna keep this anywhere that is not a dark drawer (or sell the original to someone).

      Thank you so much. I was wondering for so long how lightfast these paints are. There are so many videos about them but no one seem to have tested how they withstand exposure to light. Did you test yourself/ for a longer period of time? Like will the lightfaster paints still fade after a year or so (in bright light)?

    • @ihatemylife7682
      @ihatemylife7682 Před 3 lety +84

      This. This is when they would go from being a trend to being a mainstay. I bought the 56 color one just because I really was so excited for it. I realize that it was overkill. If I could have bought the 24 set and maybe an addition few cups, and knowing I could replace the cups individually as needed... I'd try to practice with it more and use it more as an actual artwork, rather than just making emotional pieces in my sketchbook with them.

Now I tried to only have part of the wrapper seal removed or that is cups open but covered, yet my case didn’t want to close when I did that. I also found it was better to remove the pallet from the main case in order to get a better shut seal. Thankfully my gouache hasn’t dried out too much or gone moody in this years time. But I’m not really liking them or at least I’m struggling to use them. I’m new to gouache and watercolor in general but even in trying to use as an acrylic has been challenging. I want to love these but I’m not convinced yet.

    I've never seen your channel before now, but I just bought the Himi 24 pack a couple weeks ago! I love it. LOVE it! I noticed that that they also have a 56 color pack too!!! Anyway, love the painting!

    Have you seen the 56 color gouche set yet? I'd love to hear your opinion on it! 😊

    The Himi sets seem to have gone up in price here, but they are still great value. I love this painting by the way!

    wahey i have that set!! i've had it for abouttt five months now? i don't know how much use i'm going to end up getting from all the greens, because i don't paint with them all that much, so that's something to bear in mind if you like the look of this but don't use much green. that said it's encouraging me to try using that colour as is more, and that's never a bad thing :>

    I only found one place where i could buy the 18 color palette here where i live. Is 28€ worth it?

    Does this set with the brushes come with the 18 colours and the white pallet?

    I got a set of these for Christmas last year!! Also I've got to say that they work really well but if you don't use them for a few weeks they start to mold and I cant figure out if I sprayed some bad water in them or they just do that??

      It happens when you close the lid while the paints are still moist. You can spray alcohol on it to kill the mold

    I have this set! My only complaint is that it absolutely has to be stored flat or the paints will run out of their cups and into others. I really like the brushes.

    Thank you for this video! I decided to give them a second chance and ordered the 24 color set. I absolutely haaated how my 18 color palette is almost impossible to reactivate after drying up.
    So this time I will not open the cups all the way and I'll put some damp cloth in there before closing the lid. Hopefully this will help.

      I put the inner tray over top of the paints then put that into a snap-lock bag, THEN clip the lid on
      You can also put the colours you want to use on a sta-wet palette and paint off that, keeping the lid closed in between painting

      Hi how are you liking the set now?

    • @atelier_nona
      @atelier_nona Před 2 lety +1

      @@kamalitarajagopalan2671 I personally don't like it too much now. While they're fresh, they work well and are fun to use, but the constant re-activating is too bothersome and not worth it. Just take a look at all the videos that show you the process of bringing them back to life. They are meant to be used up quickly... Otherwise, for me, and many others who've used them, there are better products out there.
