  • Expats To Be Removed From The Philippines?
Recent drama has come to a boiling point in the Philippines. Let's talk about why you should avoid these types of situations, why I prefer to live away from other foreigners, and why it is very important to conduct yourself properly while in the Philippines.

I agree 100%. I share the same views. I go there to enjoy the Philippines life and culture and foods. I don't want to be surrounded by westerners. I tend to lean on my wife there and her on me here. I'm happy just being surrounded by her family and friends in her village. We have house 99% complete. I'll get to start enjoying it this December. Enjoy the vlogs as always

Lived here a long time, best advice is to stay away from other expats. Most yes most have issues and cannot leave their baggage behind. Just go with the flow, slow down it’s not anything like where you’re from. It’s beautiful and the people are very friendly and polite. We are guests here so act accordingly.

I spent 10 months in the Philippines from December 2019 to October 2020 in Silang, Cavite. I went through the eruption of Taal and the pandemic which could have been a time to get into trouble but I stayed out of trouble by obeying the laws and other things that we made during the pandemic. There are some expats that live in the subdivision and everyone that I have met there are very friendly and helpful. I'm about a 15 minute drive from Tagaytay and the expats are spread out and there's not a lot of them in the subdivision. I enjoy the guards there because they're very friendly but when needed they do their jobs. I never once had a bad experience and I don't carry an attitude. Actually I enjoy doing things the Filipino way when I'm in the Philippines. I also make sure to be respectful to everyone and I do my best not to make it look like I'm better than anyone else because there's absolutely nothing that makes me better than the next person. I keep my mouth shut and if there's anything that happens like accidentally bumping into someone I say that I'm sorry regardless if they bumped into me. If you get angry don't say anything until you are alone where nobody can hear you or just keep those thoughts to yourself. Most of the time my wife isn't there with me because she's with her family in Bulacan so if I'm going anywhere there's a guy who takes care of our plants that I can go with or I will have friends visit and that way I'm with a person from the Philippines and they can do the talking. It's easy to stay out of trouble but some people prefer doing things the hard way.

You are correct. Make friends with and hang around and build a good reputation with Filipinos. Stay with your family and live well; do not get involved with all that mess. I am embarrassed for that. But look at our own country and how divided it is, that should be the impetus for avoiding for the most part, other expats.

Just came across your videos a few days ago and found myself laughing, in a respectful manner because your comments reminded me of growing up in our Mother's house. Note that I said "Mother's house". At home she always made it clear that we live in HER house and as such, we had to obey her rules. She made it very clear that when we were grown and in our own place "WE RULE". The same applies to visiting and/or living in a foreign country. We must be respectful of their rules and culture, adapt to the host country.
The second thing that struck me as funny was your talk about living in an around an Expat community. Why would one seek out a new place to live only to settle into an environment / community consisting of a majority of the very types of people you just moved away from. Doing so somewhat denies you many of the experiences of the new culture you are moving into. Granted, you will find some things very different from the culture you left but wasn't that a part of the consideration given in your decision to re-locate? As you stated in this video, even though you are not living in an Expat community, you have still developed friendships with some Expats living in the Philippines. To me, it appears you may have found the "HAPPY MEDIUM" living in your new culture while still retaining some of the amenities from the culture you left behind. Mama always told us that is called "HAVING THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS". Not many people are afforded that opportunity in life. ENJOY IT because when the day ends, you will sleep and awaken tomorrow to a new day. This day will be but a memory in your past to be cherished and remembered, hopefully with a smile.

Military people who live "on the economy" ... off of the base ... learn to adapt to the local ways. You don't gain anything by involving yourself in the local drama or by commenting on local traditions, religion, politics, foods, etc. This attitudes opens many doors before you even know that that door exists.

Here in the US, there's many places where if one "assaults" (may be "batters"?) a "Senior Citizen" (65+) then that's another charge, & enhances the sentence quite a bit. Curious if Philippines law gives enhanced sentences if assaulting (battering?) a senior citizen, & at what age cutoff? There is a difference btw "assault" & "battery", so it may be just for "battery", since "assault" can be simply pushing someone w/o causing any injury. "Assault" is so subjective. Most "assaults" are quite petty & cause no bodily injury. "Battery" is when you end up in the hospital.

This is the best and only advice I will give. One is to sit back watch, listen and observe. If they want your help, they will ask but they never do as philipinne people are extremely proud and independent. If you interfere no matter your intentions, you will be the bad guy. Be social and leave your judgement at home. The town idiot may be the barangay captains cousin that you just spoke poorly about. Hence you will be the bad guy. Never ever make a comment on politics. As much as you think you know, you really don't. This is key to your survival is to hold your tongue. It's really difficult, but you will be ok if you comment on a forum like youtube or redditt under a fictitious name. Live wherever you wish but always hold you information close to the vest. Anything you say will be used against you
You'll have people that love you to death and you will always have haters as well. Don't dwell on it. Most of all good luck.
