  • @orangesharpy

    These SnapUps are really, really...REALLY nice. Especially if you are crawling under your car on wheel ramps laying on your back trying to line up the gasket and put bolts in also trying not to smear the spots of RTV on those areas they were talking about everywhere. It's better than an extra set of helping hands because it lines it right up and holds things perfectly in place on all 4 corners.

    FelPro is good stuff. On the BMW n54 their valve cover gasket "the blue one" has 5 ridges compared to the others which only have 1 or 2. My buddy and I replaced ours at the same time. I went with the felpro which was slightly bit more in cost and he went with another brand. 3 years later his is leaking again. LOL

    @ Fel-Pro - guys I just bought your transmission pan gasket for my Sequoia. Going to do the work tomorrow. The surface of the pan is completely flat, so no RTV at all then, right?

    Hi John and crew, thanks for the video. Do you put a dab of RTV on the PAN SIDE OF THE GASKET as well where the 90 degree joint comes in? I tried the method of using RTV just against the block with the Fel-Pro rubber gasket and it failed in that area. Tried tightening to no avail (in fact made leak worse). Have a new gasket with a new pan and would like to get it right. Thank you!

    Fel Pro gaskets yes. RTV no. Permatex No 2 all the way. Remove old gasket then use chlorinated brake cleaner on gasket surfaces until clean. No 2 is forgiving where RTV is not. Like putting in a silicone booger that will leak over time if there is any residue on the gasket or surface. Just my experience.

    • @Shoorit
      @Shoorit Před 3 měsíci +3

      He explains why you need rtv pretty well in this video.

    • @michaeljamison8254
      @michaeljamison8254 Před 3 měsíci

      @@Shoorit I'm well aware of why RTV is needed, I've built engines for 30 years. If you still have to use it with a gasket that costs more than an entire set does the expensive gasket is pointless. The cork and rubber 4 piece gasket works fine if you slobber RTV all over it.

    • @Shoorit
      @Shoorit Před 3 měsíci

      @@michaeljamison8254 I’m not sure why the cost is so high, but did you see the special clip things that hold it in place?

    • @jeremybennett5547
      @jeremybennett5547 Před měsícem

      Well there is always going to be slight variation in machining surfaces. Hard to make a gasket that can be perfect when the item they go on can vary in imperfection.
      Note: if the pan is flat (with no step ups) RTV is not needed. Only on mating surfaces that are not a flat plane
