The fighting game is what got me into JOJOs way back in the day. Our local arcade had a cabinet of HFTF and I was instantly enamored with the art style and stories.
It's not forgotten yet, but it's slowly disappearing due to people just not being aware of its existence or not being aware of how to access it. I'd love to see the game released with rollback netcode to keep it alive.
@@floppavevo5920 it is played with rollback on fightcade, but main content creators for the game faded out of existence or moved on. also, apparently, there are legal issues with capcom rereleasing the game, so we probably won't have another rerelease like the hd version.
It's crazy to me how mysterious JoJo was just 15 years ago. Hell, I only got into Jojo because of the rerelease of this game on 360 and Antfish's JoJo OVA abridged series.

As somebody who had to settle for the PSX version, I had no idea Super Story was exclusive to that version. The secret factor mechanic in Super Story was a returning mechanic in Capcom's PS2 adaptation of Golden Wind. Very cool to learn of its unusual origins.
So, as someone who basically started my journey in Fighting Games with this game (besides casual Smash), I can say that my learning experience by playing against my school's JoJo fan crowd and later diving deeper with *Young Joseph* (It's what I could pull off not knowing how to use a keyboard as a controller) was something I definitely do not regret, even with some of the inconveniences. Nowadays, my Steam library is basically what you expect of your hardcore fighting game fan, and even more scattered around stuff like Fightcade! Even the classics can pull off new audiences if done right. I can't wait for Street 6 to do the same!
I know it can never happen for a mile long list of reasons, but I wish it could be viable for Capcom to build on this game with characters and stages from the other Parts of JoJo for a modern day sequel. If there’s one 2D game that would still look stunning if built upon today, it’d be JoJo HftF. And if they actually rebuilt the Super Story Mode to feature Part 1 through 8, with tons of fun new minigames and genre spanning moments, I think it could be something truly special. Again, can never happen, and would never sell nearly enough to justify it even if they could make it. But man would it be cool.

Which is why I said it can never happen. The more realistic scenario is a new 3D animated JoJo game by Capcom. But I’d be A LOT less interested in that.
Despite having friends introduce me to manga and anime around the same time, I didn't connect the dots when playing the Dreamcast version of the game that it was connected to a specific IP. So 20 years later when another group of friends started talking about their love of JoJo I was rather confused. They were too young to have owned a Dreamcast 😅
I love HFTF, I was amazed I missed it for so long until finally diving into Jojo with the modern series and stumbling across the cab at a local arcade. The CPS3 is just the brightest candle burns half as long and all its games are perfection for me. I dont think I ever really knew about the single player until now and boy I feel lacking. HFTF still has a thriving player base and might be one of the most active legacy game communities I've seen. Theres weekly discord tournaments and constant lfg pings. Does the game have busted nonsense? Inarguably. Is it a blast to mash about with friends? Absolutely. And if you wanna dive in, its deep with plenty of people and info to help you out.
Back when Napster and Limewire were legal, my stepdad bootlegged a copy of HftF to play on our Dreamcast. We still have the Dreamcast, and that bootleg copy, to this day. It introduced me to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, long before it reached the levels of popularity it has achieved in the U.S.A. today.
In the 1990s I was all in on Cspcom Fighter's Edge. I had to have all the games and collect the points. I only played this game on PSX. So when I got it or Dreamcast I was disappointed the story mode was out. The sprites and animations were better, but I missed that mode. It's a shame there is no definitive edition of the game that includes the story mode and amazing sprites.
When the game was re-released on XBLA, a lot of folks wanted to see Super Story mode return. Maybe one day we can get Capcom to give us a complete edition!
The problem with single player stuff now is it’s just not meant for the format. Jojo has several different game types and was a penned out narrative with a baddy of the weak formula that makes that adaptation work. Most fighting games try this style but it’s shallow. Most of the cast are just there to get beat up and it’s just generic ai battles where if you lose the game goes “CUT CUT CUT” and restarts the scene because you didn’t follow the script. Meanwhile this game actually let you break canon a little like winning with Joseph against Darby and such and again it’s not just a dragged out arcade ladder. It’s got mini games that completely change the kind of game you play so it’s actually good at keeping you invested unlike say, sf6 having me just Shenmue walk back and forth everywhere and just playing a worse version of the base combat.
Calling HFTF "forgotten" when it is consistently one of fightcade's most populated and rabidly active rooms is... a choice I don't think I agree with. But hey, nice vid, outside of that.
I love your videos and that is why I would like to suggest that in the thumbnail try to incorporate elements of video gaminess (like making yourself in 2d and using that as a pose) just your head making a surprised face is not inviting, at least in my opinion, keep in mind please that this from a place of love and care. hope you succeed and become whatever you dream yourself to be.

Great video but hard disagree about super story mode. It too was my first exposure to the story from the manga and I found it painful, boring and completely nonsensical, to the point where I have zero interest in consuming more. Oh and the quick time events… so many quick time events.
Fair enough. For me, a lot of fighting games just didn't have concrete single player modes so when I ran into this game, I was really impressed with just how much was in it and how much experimentation was done in Super Story Mode so it stuck with me. I will agree about the quick time events tho. There sure are a lot haha.
